Resident Evil Revelaitons |OT| 3D Jill Sandwiches

I still haven't found the game. It's been sold out at the 3 gamestops, 2 best buys and a Target near my apt. In Chicago. The last Best Buy said they had some in a store in the burbs but I had to go home to do Valentines Day with the wifey.

Eh, just order it online, then. I ordered a copy yesterday from BB. Shouldn't take more than three or four days.

Yeah didn't find it locally either to the 3 stores I went. Wtf :p

ok am on the final boss just a few questions

I heard about an infinite rocket launcher where can I pick it up?, any way to avoid hs ground slame attack? I figured out the purple smoke is the real him, I find the rifle powerful but a fucking pain in the ass to aim, use shot gun instead?

Quoting from my earlier reply to a similar post:

Hope that helps :).

Whoo, beat the game!

Awesome last couple of bosses, great ending.

Story felt a little weak throughout most of the game but it came together fairly well at the end.

Now to do a no-herb run of Casual and lots of Raid Mode! Not online for now, a friend just finished the game too and we're going to play it locally which will be nice.

Just started this, only up to partway through chapter 2. I'm coming off a RE4 run going into this, so it's fun comparing and contrasting the two. I'm hoping it avoids RE4 and RE5's issue where the last segment of the game is just a glorified TPS.

Just finished episode 6. Wow that was intense. Died several times but things done in the end. What I'm liking about these bosses so far is that it's very satisfying when you finally beat them. I think I've used a sniper rifle more in this game then any of the other games I've played over the years combined.

Edit: Has anyone seen any advertising for the game in the US? The low number of ratings on the eShop (it is at 1500 now and it climb it's way up to that point over the last week) for it and the lack of exposure for the game (from what I can see) has me a bit worried.

The last segment of this game = SOOOOOOOO good.

There are parts of the game that are full on action sequences, but I don't think you will be disappointed in the final chapter. It is so damn well done, I loved it.

Just cleared Trench with another person online. Nothing could possibly be as satisfying as stunlocking
mini T-Abyss
to his doom while playing as flashback Jessica.

Beat the game. Took about 9 hours or so. Boss only killed me 3 times. Still couldn't get a good handle on the dodge mechanic.

I really liked the game. The ending was a little meh but still, a fun campaign.

Now to play raid mode forever and ever. I actually did a mission just now and got a Pale Rider. What a big ass gun.

Just got done playing Raid mode for like 4 hours straight online and with the same person no less. Unlocked Abyss, but I still have a couple of S scores to get yet. Raid mode is the best.

Yeah, I played the first half of chapter 3, which was pretty much all action, but I didn't mind it that much. And good to hear the game ends on a strong note.

I'm on chapter 8 and just stopped in to say how much I love this game.

I've never really played a RE before, apart from a few bits here and there at friend's houses, and this game is making me want to go out and get 4, having heard such good things about it.

I'vebeen taking it slow, über-scanning, and when I unlock more Raid missions I usually do all of them before jumping back into the story. It's a great change of pace, let's me keep killing the baddies and is a hell of a lot of fun.

And so far the main game and story are not disappointing me. Great tension, good sense of freedom, LOVE scanning around, and so far I don't feel that I've had to do something for some asinine reason - it all makes sense, plot wise.

Love love love it.

/gush

And I appreciate the lack of spoilers in here. I like hearing the end game is badass without hearing exactly why. =)

NOOOOOO! Me and this guy, Candy, made it all the way to the end of the Ghost Ship, then he got killed by the giant shellfish-man. :(

He led me on an interesting route I didn't know about. First I had us go through the bilge and get the key down there, which he didn't seem to know about. But then he had us go through the cafeteria, which I'd never been to before on Ghost Ship, and from there to the bridge, which was insane (shield guys and blade-arms everywhere), and then from there we went to the deck. Overall, though, this was MUCH more manageable than visiting the promenade or the observation deck or the solarium. MUCH. I highly advise going through the cafeteria once you get to the main hall; all you fight there are blade-arms and arrow-arms, and maybe a hunter or two.

So painful we died at shellfish at the end, though. I've watched videos of the final fight before and I knew we still had many more bosses to go, but still... So close. I really want to unlock

I love the game just fine without the Pro. I have no desire to get the attachment.

On another note, Skagdead (with a 'k' as the official English spelling, according to the game) is such a cool monster. I say this because he still inspires more fear in me than any other creature in the game, with his insta-kill move, his floor traps, his corridor-filling blubber, his jittery gait, his dreadful voice, his buzzsaw revving, and -- scariest of all -- the way he looks when you fight the fast version in Raid, like some hell-spawn SkiFree abominable snowman. I was surprised how intricate and catchy his theme is when I listened to it after beating the game, now able to concentrate on it since I'm not running for my life. I love it.

How long is this and do I need the circle pad (ie would you definitely recommend it?)

Circle Pad feels natural except when you have to use A,B,X,Y. They feel a bit far from the right stick, which is pretty normal given the shape of the CCPro.

Right otherwise.

You don't need the CPP for this game because gyro aiming is slick if you can get the hang of it, but I would definitely recommend picking it up. It works really well on this and other games will use it.

The game is sufficiently long in campaign mode, a good 10-12+ hours and the unlocks and raid mode makes it very much replayable.

Only thing I'm finding disappointing about this game are the bosses. They're very simple but long fights and the bosses themselves don't make much sense to me. That first boss is creepy as hell though.

Do it. It's like $10 and I'm sure most of us will tell you it's even better than Revelations.

Yeah, gyro aiming is great. Only problem is it seems kinda wonky with the rifle for some reason. Could be just me because I hardy use the rifle to begin with.

The CPP is out of stock in the entire Colorado springs area. One GS clerk even told me they won't get any more till April. He tried to get me to reserve it so I figured that was bullshit.

I went to GS to pick up the CPP on the 7th and they basically told me the same thing. Apparently they only got in enough units for the people who reserved it and wouldn't get anymore in for weeks. I was like "Who would even think to reserve this thing? You are telling me there were so many goddamn people who reserved this accessory that only works currently with one game that came out this very day that you don't have a single one to sell me!?" Needless to say I was pissed off but ordered one from gamestop.com and got it 3 days later.

He's like the chainsaw guy from Resident Evil 4 but his dialogue and beauty makes him even cooler.

4 needs to be remade for the 3DS.

I don't care how well Revelations sells or how much 4 would sell, it's obvious from this game that 4 could be made in the developers' sleep.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!

I'd prefer more a remake of Resident Evil 2 for 3DS, or, even better, a Revelations 2
dealing with what happen between 5 and 6

Has anyone been playing this in the dark with earphones? It's actually pretty damn scary.
Lights dimmed with headphones. Yeah, it's creepy alright. I was playing the found yoooouuuu part last night and I was gripping the damn 3DS so hard because of how tense I was feeling.

Kinda hoping Capcom continues this game-between-two-previous-games idea on Nintendo, or any platforms with any future releases. I friggin' love it.

I finished the campaign,
just a few things I thought of
is that a 6 in the end Vial?, Chris and Jill's sequence with the mansion is that related to something in 6?
are Raymond and Jessica, the New String Pullers of Resident Evil? will Jessica be that "Bitch"Chris is talking about in Resi 6 Trailer?,
Parker is Alive, he needs to make more appearances in new Resi Game, maybe bring Raymond to justice...or bring him back to the side of good.
Was Rachel on the side of good/evil or neutral?

onto raid mode now, cool

ohh about the CPP getting 180Hrs or such from one battery, I call Bullshit I am already getting Low battery messages when I start the game, Only clocked in about 9Hrs 50-ish on Campaign and about 1Hr 30 on Raid...

The mansion is probably the one from the RE5 DLC Lost in Nightmare.

Finally S ranked Stage 15 abyss last night... taken me about 6-7 tries :s Here was my route:

Recommended weapons - machine gun, rifle, Desert Eagle, shock grenades

Cafeteria (clear the room, collect key)
Casino (clear the room, collect key)
Promenade (shoot to progress through to the door leading to the elevator, skip as much as you can, no need to clear the room)
Bridge (yes go to the bridge, clear the place up and collect the illegal firearm parts)
Deck (grenades [hunters] and decoys [dogs], waste the whole lot it doesn't matter)

I haven't finished that game, Do I need to, so I can play that DLC?

I think you need to have bet Chapter 3 or 4. I could be wrong.

edit: I think that's for the Gold edition. It may just unlock if you pay for the DLC.

cool, one other thing, the crappy AI and co-op nature of five put me off playing it.
does lost in nightmares contain such issues? not to derail the thread as in RE:R the parts with Partners are handled excellently, hmm an easier solution play RE:R on a higher difficulty setting..

as for Resi 4 for 3DS talk, use the Wii Version for 3DS with all they extras, BUT (raises flame shield) allow Moving while shooting, Mercs with Online play. and presto best version of 4 ever.. well maybe the controls, but Gyro might be as good as Wii-mote aiming? (haven't tried Gyro controls) - Yes I am one of those Resident Evil players, I like to move and shoot, I find the stop-aim-pop nature good but limitiing

another release of 4?

just give me a remake of 2 please and i'll be happy as larry

I've never played 2, would/could it benefit from the Resi:R style of controlling over the shoulder etc, or would that weaken it? also as much as I would love 4 on the 3DS, would it be better to get more original Resident Evils for the 3DS instead of all remakes/ports?

I hope Revelations isn't a one off for the 3DS

And they have a lot of updated assets now with the RE 2-portions of Darkside Chronicles and Operation Raccoon City.
Oh just shut up and take my money!!!

At this point I would prefer if they release a full on Raid standalone MP game. I guess DLC isn't an option for this game, but I seriously need more Raid mode goodnes!! Aside from MK7s Communities, this is by far the best online portable experience I've had. They could even combine it with a new and refined Mercenaries mode.
Hopefully we'll see more this E3, or at least get an announcement.

Never going to happen, unfortunately.

"...if you're looking for pre-rendered backgrounds and fixed camera angles, those are likely to not be present (I know you said dynamic above... just for others asking). The reality is that some of the things you're asking about (objective markers/directional aids, limited save/typewriter ribbons) are issues of accessibility. In today's market, the broader market really demands and requires a bit more handholding than the PS1 gamer of yore. These are generally expected user experience aids in this day and age and the lack of them usally results in negative feedback/lower reviews (and subsequently, lower sales)."

Here's some of my thoughts into REv:

Parker's a bro (JEEEL, VUT ARE YOU DOING?),
and probably the only new character I want to become a series mainstay.
The rest of the new characters are by and large garbage though.

Time to completion: 10 hours

Gameplay:

(Keep in mind I played with the frankenstick)

Like the reduced ammo counts, even if it is an illusion for the most part. Gun upgrades seemed rad at first, but I quickly grew to dislike them as a whole as it devalued the individual guns (eg, there's not going to be a Red9 vs blacktail or Riot Gun vs Striker convos stemming). Scanning is a pain in the ass and serves no purpose other than padding the game out by forcing you to scan every room for crap. It doesn't help any that the damned game forces you to equip the scanner then aim and scan. Why the hell can't I just press a button to jump to the FPV and begin scanning immediately? Old system of item drops via enemy kills and treasure drops via shiny spots on walls and/or environmental tasks is not only better and more efficient in every way, it also doesn't waste my god-damned time on trivial crap. Dodge system seems a little more unreliable than I had hoped, but I guess that's the point. Dislike the new melee system and feel like they really lost a lost of the character of RE4/5's gameplay by making it play like "Dead Space: but actually a functional horror game". Even with the 200%+ daze on my handgun I was rarely getting melee prompts. Jelly screen health is infuriating, but I suppose it could have been worse with regen health or something. So basically this game plays a lot like a generic shooter, rather than an RE game because they stripped out a ton of the individuality in RE4/5 that separated it from the pack. Is it more "accessible" for it? Probably, but by making it more accessible they lost what made RE4/5 (particularly 5) really shine: the outstanding contextual melee system.

Based on the gameplay, I don't much hold much hope for RE6 as it seems to be going even more in the generic direction (roadie run, cover system, etc).

Frankenstick implementation

Very half-assed and obviously added very late in development. First of all, quick turn is kept to back-left stick+B meaning you have to lose camera controls to make a quick turn. This would be acceptable, if they didn't map the use function to Zr (meaning you could have easily double dipped and placed it there for better ease of access) and left the L button unused completely. Secondly, four buttons are wasted. Y is used for reloading....which is something the B button does anyway in aim mode. X does nothing outside of menus. Same for Dpad down and the L button. What this means is they could have easily taken some strain off the touch screen fuctions by mapping some of these to buttons. The extra map/inventory stuffs should have been mapped to the X button, and either quick turn or auto-scan to L freeing up Dpad up to your third weapon (eliminating the need for touch-screen switching). I could go on about how they could have better implemented this control scheme, but I think you get the point.

tl;dr version of gameplay section: by all but removing the fantastic melee system of RE4/5 the gameplay lost a lot of it's uniqueness. What we're left with (mechanically) is a generic--although definitely above average--TPS with the illusion of classic horror elements keeping it interesting on the gameplay front.

Story

No spoilers, so I'll just say the twists and reveals are about as unexpected as the sun rising everyday, the dialog is largely rubbish, all the new characters except Parker suck ass, and some of the character designs are atrocious.

Level Design

Despite some truly awful pacing dragging down the ship areas, by and large I actually really enjoyed the way this game's levels are laid out. The Ship areas function almost entirely like something out of System Shock 2 (go from section B to section A to repair/destroy/find/etc thing C (which is somehow impeding your progression to section B) while at somepoint later returning to section A to see the consequences of your actions) only a tad more linear, while everything else is pretty much linear setpiece shootan. To touch on what I said earlier about the pacing issues, it stems almost entirely from the fact you're often being thrown out of the atmospheric nonlinear-ish ship into these extremely compact linear shootan levels at random. Bosses are actually pretty good (if not a little bullet spongy), even if one of them is a blatant copy/paste job >__>

I won't divulge any more boss details other than that due to this being a no spoilers post

(the rest of this section is just me contriving ways to potentially fix the horrible pacing. read if you wish, but can be skipped if you don't want to read it)

This type of inconsistent pacing could have easily been alleviated somewhat by having all the Terra whatever sections (which actually take place *before* the events of the ship section) be the opening portion of the game, with the ship being the closing act. This would actually not only strengthen the story (as the terra sections are supposed to be the foundation of the ship segments...despite you never learning this "foundation" until the second to last act of the game >_>), but also help ease the player into the more demanding and definitely more horrifying atmosphere of the ship as the last terra level actually has very lite non-linear back tracking involved. This, I believe, would help ease the player into the game much more efficiently as in these sections you are not required to keep up with weapon upgrades or scanning at all. The other two sets of characters are a bit more tricky to place in order to keep the ship intact, but placing a cutscene showing Jill and Parker on their way to the Ship after the last Terra section and right before the first Chris' first section would best preserve both the story and the atmosphere/pacing of the ship. As for Chris' second act, leaving it in it's current place would be fine The two idiots sections are a little harder to place, but are so short anyways I don't feel the integrity of the Ship would be harmed too much if kept intact.

tl;dr: wildly inconsistent story/gameplay pacing is annoying and harms the game's atmosphere, but despite it the Ship remains one of the best RE "areas" in years.

Overall, REv is a great package worthy of a buy from any 3DS owner suffering from the tried and true first year lifespan old lack 'o games-itis. However, series fans may be disappointed by the schizophrenic level design and story pacing, and toning down of the melee system. Despite these issues, I feel REv is totally worth the $40 price of admission.

If I had to give it a score I'd probably give it an 8/10 or so.

Man im tired of level 20- trying Ghost Ship when im trying to help them level up.

Also the
Lab
sucks on ghost ship, near infinite spawning enemies.
