Resident Evil: Revelations 2 |OT| Yeah, but it's only $25

Claire's chapter of Episode Two is now finished and I'll start Barry's tomorrow. I'd say this was better than her first chapter so if Barry's is as good then bring it on.

I was one of the first people on GAF to actually like RE6 (you may recall the PSA I wrote at the time on how to play), but I can't deny the pacing is uneven in RE6's campaigns. It would've benefitted greatly from long quiet stretches of exploration like the kind found in Rev 2.

The removal of files in favour of that lame emblem system also killed the pacing and atmosphere

Part of RE6's problem is dividing the campaign into four seperate parts though. Capcom must have felt the need to put in as much action and crazy setpiece stuff as possible since you're only getting like 5-7 hours with each characters max. No time for exploration/slower stuff.

Two characters like REV2 works, and only because you play them back to back so you can effectively mix action/slower parts. Multiple character POVs is something I'd prefer they not do in RE7.

Also I should clarify I actually don't have a very strong opinion on RE6, it's a pretty okay game that entertained me for like a month of my freshman year of college. I just tried and failed at making a witty comment lol

Guess I will call Sony tomorrow and demand a refund for the season pass, so disappointed, but I am not going to pay 20$ for something that doesn't work.

This is how I'm feeling. I work tge next 4 days though so I don't really have time to deal with them. Hopefully it's fixed by the next time I'm off.

Ammo and herbs seemed a bit more scarce for Claire and Moira this time around. Some very tense and truly Resident Evil moments as well. Another great episode.

Countdown mode done on episode 2. What a hell of a ride.

I had to make a tough choice on the
Pedro
fight since I figured it would be harder to get through Barry's campaign without
the drill
. You can skip a LARGE part of episode 2 if you
kill Pedro with Claire
Because I was rushing I was unable to get good supplies and I just could not
kill him with Claire
so I had to run. I was worried for nothing since I had PLENTY of time on Barry's campaign, and
Pedro
is 10x easier.

Now off to invisible mode. The only problem I am worried about on this is the last part of Claire's campaign.
I hope I can have around 5 or 6 bombs to take out the boss quick

Those red spots Natalia sees -- what do you do with them? I tried pointing at them, standing over them, shooting and knifing them with Barry, etc. No dice.

You have to throw a brick at them, sometimes twice(hit detection seems a little weird).

They're akin to the hidden symbols Moira shines the flashlight on.

So, S-Rank'd all difficulties, Countdown, and Invisible Enemy mode in Episode 2 + got all the collectibles. Also completed all of the Records, except for one.

It's between "Got the Bomb on Me" and "Sharpshooter" on the Records page. For whatever reason it's totally grayed out with ??? for the Clear Conditions and I have absolutely no clue what it's for and it's bugging the hell out of me. Absolute last thing I have left for Episode 2. 64/65 completed, I must finish them all!

Does anyone have any idea of what that Record actually is?

Evolved1

make sure the pudding isn't too soggy but that just ruins everything
Ooooooh. Well, now the abundance of bricks strewn about the island seems justified, lol.

You don't always have to throw the brick though... sometimes just hitting them is fine.

I just finished episode 2, HOLY FUCKING SHIIIIIIIIIIITTTTTTTTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The game part was pretty cool, liked the crazy shift in gameplay with Barry. Did not care for Claire and her cast of idiots, it was just a poor version of the last few RE games.

But that ending!!!!!

Really? I dunno, I had a shit ton of everything but especially handgun ammo. Plus tons of tournakits and herbs. Headshots and liberal use of flashlight/kick/follow up conserve lots of ammo too. Are you using Moira's flashlight to find hidden stuff? Should give a good amount of extra ammo. I haven't found anything to be scarce in this game thus far. I am on Normal, however.

So I couldnt wait til a retail release for 40 bucks. I had 10 bucks PSN credit from previous promotion. I just got the Complete season plus wesker DLC. 17 dollars for the game.

That is probably where I screwed up. I was running around with Claire half dead most of the time because I could not find any more herbs until I got to the boss. But luckily I got just enough ammo to keep it tense. Good times.

Man I really had to force myself to finish Claire's episode 2, not sure when I'll do Barry's... does anyone else feel it? The game is just soulless and boring compared to RE1-5. There's no spark. I'm a huge Claire fan too and while I like the mature look she's about as interesting as a wet napkin here. Gameplay feels about as deep as an iOS game too

If you think this game is soulless but not RE5 then... Welp.

Finished Claire's section in episode 2 and got pretty far into Barry's. So far I'm liking this one more than episode 1 but it's bothering me that it doesn't support online coop for story mode. Did they ever explain why it doesn't? I know raid will get online support after the disc release but why not both?

I think this is the first Resident Evil game that co-op has actually adversely affected my gameplay experience. It's because that Moira/Natalia play so much differently than Claire/Barry.

I really HATED the Genesis device in Revelations 1. The idea of slowly scanning every stretch of the environment for some items really killed the pace of that game for me. I'm disappointed that they decided to transfer that over to Revelations 2 with the flashlight/pointing.

It just feels like a chore to switch between the characters so often. Though, for some reason, I enjoy playing as Natalia a lot more than Moira, probably because her sense ability is pretty useful, and they actually have enemies that require it in Episode 2. It's still kind of silly that I pretty much play as Natalia/Moira on point, despite them not having weapons, just so I can find items faster.

I just upgraded Moira's crowbar all the way after finishing Episode 2, so maybe I'll be able to get by combat sections without having to switch the Claire.

Also, final thought: why did they change Claire's voice? Alyson Court would've made this game so much cooler for me.

Sorry if it's been covered, but only got chance to boot the game up last night quite late on...

Any idea what the deal with the infinite loading loop is?

It says it's checking the compatibility pack which I OK and then it just stays loading. Someone on GameFAQs said just logging out of PSN fixes this - and it does - but it doesn't seem ideal... Surely I'm missing something? This is my first direct download, so thought it could be that... plus my PS3 is a launch 60GB model which struggles enough as it is...

Alright, did ep. 2 in countdown mode. Had to do quite a few resets in Claire's section , though it was mainly at the start, and I cut it pretty close at the end. Barry's felt a lot more lenient, but also has some stuff like
pushing the crate in the door as Claire or killing Pedro
to let him skip sections.

Invisible enemy shouldn't be too bad, aside from the boss with Claire.

Same for me. Maybe it's just the habits I picked up from playing other horror games on high difficulties but I'm literally swimming in ammo in this. I think I'll just play on survival difficulty from now on.

On another note, I can't remember the last time a Resident Evil game had this much atmosphere to it. I'm really impressed with Revelations 2 so far. Episode 2 was particularly fantastic.

The different difficulties make a pretty big difference. Even using melee/stealth a lot and looking around for stuff you're likely to run low on ammo in Survival mode.

On Survival mode Claire's boss is also quite challenging IMO.

I wanna go back to when people were scared about the whole game being ruined by the crystal system.

Thank god that it's A. not in the campaign, and B. Raid mode isn't completely tailored around it. I have 16 crystals and I've only done the first missions and a few daily ones.

So that was a fun discussion we all had a few months ago.

Anyway, I'm only halfway on EP2 but hot damn this game is fun. Little callbacks, the fact that it has action but is still kinda spooky/hard with some item management, and Raid mode just make me giddy.

Not bad, Capcom.

Yeah I think I have 17 blues now after doing a couple missions as well. If I ever do die, I don't want to revive anyway. I just restart. It's even pointless using herbs if you want all 5 medals.

Scagdead's were definitely a hindrance in the first Revelations, but I think in this one they're even worse. I dunno, they seem worse in this one when I fight them. I don't know if I love or hate their inclusion. XD

One of the things that Rev 2 does that I think really works is how the campaigns intersect together and you get to experience them as you playthorugh, something RE6 could have really done with. For example you get to see Claire and Moria's side of events and then pick things up with Barry and Natalia in the midst of the other campaign. Where as asides from Revelations 1 (which had different points of view and flashback scenes) you'd normally end up playing one campaign in one shot before seeing the other side of the story. Plus the episodic nature of releases and the way certain choices effect the other campaign harking back to RE2 are a nice touch for me.

Scagdead + Speedboost = Fuck. I had to retry the casino level in raid a lot of times because of that. It didn't help that other enemies that spawn during the fight are electrified.
Well, for the next one I encounter, I finally have the rocketlauncher ready.

Finished all the Raid missions yesterday. Damn, I don't want to wait another week for new ones.

What's wrong with the FPS on PS4? Looks fine on mine.
Lots of dips under 60 fps. Both of Barry's chapters are pretty bad in that regard dropping into the 30s regularly. If you're not seeing it, congrats, you're not sensitive to frame-rate issues. It really needs patching though.

you don't get 7 decoy grenades and 7 stun grenades to make them stop moving and they're faster than your character so you have to basically kite them to death due to their massive health pool and lack of stun , especially if they've got the speed bonus.

if they have the speed bonus you seriously have to have ice rounds or ice grenades to even fuck with them

they were poorly designed combat-wise before and now they got even worse somehow

Alright, I don't care much about FPS unless it's really noticeable.

Also when is the classic Claire costume going to be on the store? When the retail version releases?

Oooh while you're here are you going to be updating your article with the release of each episode? It would be interesting to how performance compares from release to release and then when it's finally all out.

Not
a daughter, an adopted sister.

Wikia article here. She was first introduced in the files of Lost in Nightmares, in RE5.

An adopted sister, is that new?
The files on RE5 only mention Alex was part of the Wesker children, but not actually an adopted sister of Albert, although they met before, so there is something i missed.

Well, they aren't genetically related, but they share the same surname, given to them by Spencer. So I'm assuming that she is an adopted sister of sorts. All of the Wesker children would technically be adopted siblings, wouldn't they? Spencer basically took them from their parents and raised them together. Although it hardly matters for the most part, as Alex is the only one left alive at this point.

The Wesker children technically aren't even adopted. They're just taken from their families and then subjected to mental conditioning before being sent out into the world for education with surveillance attached. Alex was the most exemplary and was Spencer's favorite, so he told her about the Wesker Project and made her its chief scientist while she worked in the Umbrella Intelligence Division--- where she met Albert but kept her true identity hidden (signing everything as "Alex W." for instance).

What's not working for you? I've gotten both episodes just fine, but I still dont think the throwback raid maps are....either I don't know how to access them, or they're simply not there.

It's taking me forever playing Barry's mission because I am crouched 90 % of the time and using Natalia to point and all lol...at one point I was almost out of ammo because of one spot, where I was kind of panic shooting my pistol, even though the screen was smeared by that brown goo one monster flings at you...thank god there was a little break after and I found some ammo again...loving it so far though.

pedro's voice actor is that same as jim in outbreak right?

edit: hmm guess not

Speaking of Outbreak, did anyone else find David's voice fucking hilarious in that game? lol I just remember he sounded so gruff, like he had smoked 2 packs of cigs a day. God I wish they would port that game to current consoles...it was so fun. I was one of the few people online it at the time who had the HDD, lol

You can stun them, the weak-point is the the little guy on its shoulder. If you land square shots on that, it'll push the monster back and temporarily keep him in place. I also find he has a hard time making sudden curves, so taking advantage of level layout has helped me a number of times.

This all said, while typing this, I just realized one reason they may be more challenging is that they no longer stop for a bit to spit out their traps, which was a good chance to unload on them and their traps I usually didn't fall for.

It was all kinds of great because of how over the top gruff it was.
Outbreak is still one of my all time favorites. Was a game ahead of it's time.
