Soo... just got around chapter 5, with my guys hanging around level 21-22-22 (Vashyron, Zephyr, Leanne.) But God damn the difficulty appears to be spiking up quite considerably. I mean, I got hit by a condition critical on a random encounter near the elevator to level 5 (or 6?, I forgot) on the northeastern part of the base town. I'm stockpiling grenades and molotovs right now but I'm not really sure I can get by if a random encounter with mofos around level 20s can kick my ass like that...

My guns are the default ones plus the 100.000 handgun from the shop, but I can only attach 4-5 parts (iirc) on each guns, and the attachments themselves are still in the low quality variant, I suppose...

It's quite discouraging, to say the least... :(

Can someone list the location of all the available guns in this game?

charge speed and charge acceleration make a huge difference specially on MGs. Try customizing your MG geared towards those 2 parameters. Remember a MG's damage rate raises exponentially with every charge you pile up.

Did you get the second submachine gun from
Dakota Vein? It's in the gold chest at the end.
Might help you if you haven't. I didn't find the magazine case particularly useful for that chapter, so dual wielding should be a big help, especially with charge speed boosts on both of them. If you don't have the weight capacity yet then switch weapons for a bit and get a few easy levels to get it up. Also it would probably be worth your time there linking up the terminal that doubles fire elemental damage. Molotovs are quite effective already on the gremlins but with that set up they go down in a few hits.

Up to Chapter 8 now and... ouch :lol Haven't had any real problems up until this point, though some of the battles in Chapter 7 were getting a little difficult, but the Chapter 8 story dungeon is just.... ow. Gone back to do a load of gun customisation and will try again tomorrow, hope it makes a difference.

Gamespot review
8.5/10, FFXIII got 8.5 too.
can't wait to play this, have to wait a few more days.

The reviewer seems to be patting himself on the back for figuring out the basics of combat. It seems like he struggled to understand the combat and thus was unable to offer any coherent criticism of it.

I disagree that the fights "require a lot of strategy". Difficult SRPGs, turn based tactics games, and some hard puzzle games require a lot of strategy - traditional RPGs almost never reach that level. Once you figure out the combat system the only variation on strategy will be exploiting terrain and using different consumables.

He states "there is little distinction between your fights at the start of your adventure and those that happen toward the end". Disagree. You have more skills to rely on (gague break/stun), more hero bezels, keeping everyones health steady so you don't lose 5-8 bezels becomes far more important than conserving HAs, enemies get barriers (not armor, barriers) that have to be cracked.. it's not likely you can play through the game and not notice these things.

He mentions 'grass yetis' out of nowhere, despite a reader having no clue what they are. He could have just used 'strong enemies with elemental weaknesses to be exploited' (which is an RPG staple and not exactly something to hold up as a shining example of combat innovation). Even then grass yetis have no weaknesses, so it's a bad example.

"It takes a long time to figure out the intricacies of battle".. that should be 'a long time for the average player'. "losing to a random foe in an ordinary encounter is an all-too-common occurrence" uhh.. no. If you're losing a lot to random encounters, you didn't pay attention to the tutorial. Research and differentiate skill levels.

Also from looking at the video review footage he doesn't bother charging MG attacks fully.. that is a pretty basic mistake.

I need help...

I am in chapter 7 and I dont know where to find dark purple tiles to unlock those stations in level 6.

I cleared level 10, 11, 12 and I fought a forced battle and only have one tile which i used

Is there a place on these floors or is there enemies that drop dark purple tiles?

I'm just about to give the story mission in Chap. 4 another go. It's the one where
you protect the statue in the Forest of Idols
. I've tried it once and couldn't work ot how to either finish the enemies quickly or at least draw their fire. Tips??

One answer : fire bullets, cocktail molotov and put one of your character in front of the statue.

Wow! Quick response. Thanks man!

Edit: Shit! I dont think I have many (if any) fire bullets.

Fake Double Edit: Yes I do! Got them from the 'quality meat' quest. Kazzang!

I used the delay strat and made it through with 25%-30% of the escort health

I had some one stand in front of the "escort" to keep it from moving (hg person) and had the mg gunner/other hg user run into the thick of them using burst fire and hg to peel away at them keeping an eye out of who they are targeting.

I got to the boss with a lil below 50%

Make sure you use moltovs on the boss (weakness) and incedary rounds with you mg to finish it off quickly (1-2 hero actions) before the really dig into the statue.

I beat the final Neverland boss battle last night. I was just expecting a regular fight, but there were cutscenes that explained some ambiguous story elements.

I think I will finally be done with RoF once I get a new endgame save, although I am planning on playing on hard difficulty at some point down the road.

Enemies don't drop the dark purple hex pieces with any regularity till much later in the game.

Chapter 8, and I'm loving it. tri-Ace outdid themselves with this game.

The clothes thing, doesn't really affect gameplay at all, but it's such a fucking nice touch. seeing the cutscenes with the characters wearing what you put them on is awesome.

the silmeria team in the studio is still an elite, world class rpg developer and it shows in this game. this is unlike anything I've played before, and it feels like such a refreshing experience.

Too bad as per usual, everything else Tri-Ace is pretty fail. This is our VP3 this gen. D: Sigh. I really want to get around to playing this.

One great game each generation from Norimoto!

Has anyone figured out if the EXP Trainers stack? I'm getting six times the experience from the arena battles, but an additional multiplier would be even better.

More stuff gets unlocked in chapter 5 (where I'm at), they add more as you go along.

Is there a set way to guesstimate how many hexes will be necessary to power multiple terminals if you link them together? I tried linking three and thought I had enough when I put down the piece to link the third, and then I killed my terminal effect. I know it's not just a matter of adding the required hexes together, but does the number vary depending on what you hook together or is there always a combination that produces a definite number (i.e. min 50 + min 60 = 90)?

So guys, what's the verdict of this game? Is it SO4 or the first tri-ace game getting it right on next gen? I played the Japanese demo and quite liked it. How does the rest hold up?

It's a lot of fun. The characters aren't annoying and the battles are awesome and challenging.

Btw, when can I at the earliest point get another machinegun? I'm at chapter 6.

Hmm, i thought it is just a simple addition.

Maybe we can add SO3 for the PS2.
I still think it's one of the best battle system in a jrpg (and maybe because I spent more than 500 hours on this game :D).

Back to RoF, I'm in chapter 5 and the game begin to be hard but if you listen to NPC you have some hints who help to kill the ennemies (mobs in forest weak to fire, ect...).

One question : It's normal to die when you lose every red ruby (hero gauge, I think) ?
It's possible to win back his ruby ? Because when I run to collect the broken ruby on the floor nothing happen... The only thing I think I understand is : broken life bar of a ennemy = 1 red ruby right ? And it's possible to keep the red ruby when you atttack ?

There's a second MG in
Dakota Vein on level 9
. You should be able to get to it by now, but keep in mind that it's being guarded by two level 50 enemies.

Beat chapter 14. The story dungeon was pretty tough, especially the ones with the human enemy groups. It took a while to get through, but WOW. The boss fight is so awesome. Really clever and fun to fight. :D

As soon as you're strong enough to equip two weapons.

You'll get another Hero Action Point if you either kill an enemy or destroy a body part. You may have to collect at least some of the broken gauge parts to store the action points.

GAF, what do we collectively say about this game?

1) Fuck yes!
2) yes!
3) meh
4) NO!
5) FUCK NO!

I'm with #1. Can't speak for anyone else. Recently listened to some podcast where people were saying that its basically the opposite of FFXIII (which is true) and that this is a negative thing (which I don't agree with). I can see how some people will come to this game and find it inscrutable, but I thought it paces the challenge in such a way to make sure you master each part of the system before adding the next part. It's got a weird world with likable characters, a deep, original battle system and a neat overworld. I think that anyone who enjoys playing JRPGs will find a good game in RoF.

I haven't reached chapter 8 yet, but I did kill a few yetis in the arena. How many are you facing? I use this tactic on most enemies and with it I can usually eliminate all major threats before they can do any real damage.

34zeou0.png

1. Equip Vashyron with a MG and go for a far corner where he won't take much damage. You'll get a Resonance Point for crossing the invisible line between Zephyr and Lianne.

9sa3yg.png

2. Take out the first scratched enemy and head for the other corner. Try to either stagger the other enemies or take down a few shields. You'll get another Resonance Point.

3. Switch to Vashyron and unleash hell with a tri attack.

Woohoo! This is my strategy too! It works so well against everything, it's ALMOST game breaking.

If you have some extra colored energy hexes, there are terminals nearby that increase the drop rates.

Oh and 'Fuck yes'
Dual handguns are awesome. You basically double your chance of knocking enemies into the air and breaking multiple enemy hp gauges is almost guaranteed.

Also, definitely 1) Fuck yes!

How is story in this game? IIRC GT review pointed out that it is consisting of many loosely connected short stories. But how well do they work together?

Short stories? There is an overarching plot that the main characters missions weave in and out of.

You don't really see the whole picture until you beat the game, which might explain why they think the story is made up of a bunch of short stories. :lol

Hellz yeah.

Also, are regular grenades or molotovs buyable in the store in Chapter 1, and if so, are they expensive? I've leveled up my guns for people, just not sure if I want to worry about leveling those up for now if I can't replenish the amount I have.

EDIT: Also, how do I do the quest in Ch 1 where
the shop owner asks you if you have any dolls at your place? Seems kinda vague as to where to get them, I looked around at the base and didn't see anything.
