just watched the first minute and the first battle when he is actually explaining stuff, he doesn't mention important stuff like target priority for enemies against the PCs which the game lets you know. Might not sound like much, but with attack canceling tactics, which are really important... it's definitely something that he should at least mention.

So I know very little about this game, other than people saying "better than FFXIII" which I haven't played yet. So I should get this one before FFXIII? Should I get one version of RoF over the other in terms of platform?

I really want to like this game (game is genuinely funny and Nolan North is awesome as usual) but holy shit the game is unplayable in certain cases on PS3 due to freezing.

http://forums.sega.com/showthread.php?t=320869

Searching reveals others have this problem. Basically if you have an original PlayStation 3 (20GB, 40GB or 60GB, etc) do not do the optional hard drive install or the game will be fucked due to chronic freezing problems. It may happen without the install anyway, but the common theme seems to be older PS3 model + installed game data. Perhaps it has to do with people who have upgraded their hard drives + installing game data... but that's speculation on my part. The game is going to need to be patched though.

Wierd. I have a launch day 60gb from the UK and I've installed the game data. No problems here.

I have a 60gig, the game is installed, played over 70 hours now, about half way through my second playthrough, almost have all the trophies, only had the game lock up on me once. It happened yesterday, when I got into a random encounter in the bonus dungeon. I didn't have it freeze ever before, and it hasn't locked up again since then.

Mine has yet to freeze.

Game is for TRUE believers, people that when everyone was shitting on the studio still BELIEVED, among all the trolling against tri-Ace I still clung to hope that they would bounce back (holy shit they did in style). Sinners has been judged as unworthy, thus the freezing issue.

Sweet, sweet vindication. :D

Maybe it's a faulty disc issue.

Nope. I only plan to change my HDD if I ever run out of space. Hasn't happened yet. :lol

Warning Ch9 spoiler:

There are cases where consoles face a certain and inescapable lock up, but yet... the game continues running. In such cases the game leaves behind a mark of the supernatural... a sacred sign. You have seen this before, yes?

I got a 20gb so unfortunately I was way out of space. Now wishing I had got the 60GB though... never would have had to go through the trouble of upgrading and probably wouldn't be having this problem.

I picked this up last month on release day. I'd say it's one of the best games I've played, period. Every design element, from the combat to the way map navigation works to the primarily text-based dialogue, works together really well.

This game really reminds me of the next evolution of the old PS1 and PS2 RPGs - it takes a few relatively new concepts and really runs with them, which is something you don't see quite so often this generation.

I believe it is in the east dungeon in the second room.

I love this game. It's just so addictive with all of the jumping around, costume changes, equipment upgrades, etc. But I have yet to figure out two things:

1. What am I suppose to do when my characters start going into panic mode? The only thing I've done so far is collecting those crystals and shooting the enemy to stabilize their fragile emotion. But I'm not sure if that's the right way of fixing this problem.

2. How am I supposed to reach the Forest of Spirit (I think, I can't remember the exact name)? I don't have the green hex to reach the elevator to level 5.

So I should look into the 360 version then if I decide to pick this up? I upgraded the HDD in my PS3.

Levels

Vashyron 52 14/25/13
Zephyr 52 23/15/14
Leanne 47 21/14/12

I really need to understand the weapon customizing more, sometimes I just buy new parts and try to put them together.

I've also been making some nice arena progress, nothing so far has been very difficult in the ranks I've attempted (highest I've done is 20-3)

Though I do need to find a part to make a HG + 5 for some sidequest I'm doing, hmm.

Just to throw in on the freezing.

80gb non-BC Japanese PS3 here, hard drive upgraded to 320gb and optional install done. Only had one freeze so far and it was when I got a game over on... I think it was chapter 4's main mission?
The statue one.
Other than that it's been just fine. Then again it seems to be one of the last generation of the original model as I didn't get apocalyps3'd either.

Currently still on chapter 12, need 1 more
lighting scrap
and the enemy marked with it in the bestiary just will not drop it. So I'm working through the arena because apparently there's an enemy in there that does. Slow going though.

woah, you're like ten levels higher than me at the same point, same hours played. must be time to swap all my weapons around again.

the part you need can be made in
cranktown
iirc.

Well I mean more that one of the pieces to make it I need. Like a broken rocket launcher...or something? Not sure offhand, but will look tomorrow.

It looks like its only affecting a small percentage. I couldn't say for certain you would have this freezing issue on PS3.

Mr_Appleby said:
have you tried deleting the installed data (game data utility)?
I did not try first hand because I read on the Sega forums it would continue to freeze. One person's solution was to reformat their PS3's hard drive (not an option for me), then opt to not install the game data, and it was working fine after that.

ahh yeah gotcha. can't help there as i already had everything needed. should be able to look through the bestiary and see what drops it though.

hmm.. I've had the game freeze up on me once on the x360 version.. when I pressed RB to switch weapons the character I was using faded out then never faded back in.. I could press a few UI related buttons and use the guide button but my character never faded back into view

this is probably a multi-console bug

So how exactly do you launch enemies? Or is it random?

It's random, but the weapon type affects it.. I've noticed machineguns launch way more often than handguns. It can happen both during a hero action or a regular attack, but if you're in a hero action you must be in the ground to launch.

It's not so much the weapon type, but the amount of ammo you have, and SMGs have larger magazine sizes. Each hit has a chance of knocking an enemy into the air, and every subsequent hit after the enemy has been launched will push the enemy higher into the air and increase the bonus hit window.

Damn. I know about being on the ground and everything, I was just thinking that maybe there wa a determining factor. Random is ok. I guess :(

It's not completely "random". There is a determining factor. You just can't make it happen 100%. Things which make it more likely to happen include:

- distance to enemy
- more ammo
- higher knockback bonus
- higher charge count resulting in more elaborate attack animations

Edit: Think of it a bit like actual physics, which the game employs in certain ways. If you have a fully charged dual SMG user and you run straight at an enemy, and unleash the attack right in front of him, the character might do the animation where he/she slides on the ground and shoots the enemy from the ground. This will almost always result in launching the enemy into the air.

yeah this is my method.. run straight at them charging, fire as close as possible. getting pretty consistent airborns with dual smg now. plus there's that item that improves your chances of getting a bonus attack

Prioritise!
Make sure to detonate mobs with explosion parts, and make sure to focus fire on mobs who are placed closest to the statue. Reason? They get to shoot the fastest and the most to that statue.

And provide alternate target by sending one of the pistol users into the crowd - I used Vashyron for that, because he was a trained grenade thrower, and he could easily kill several mobs alone in some situations.

And on the boss, keep scratching + throwing grenades. Do not even think about the adds.

If you're getting tired of replaying it over and over again, you can always bribe your way past the mission. The statue receives full health when you restore your hero gauge, but it's going to cost you quite a lot.

Yeah, I think it's like 50K to do that. I was at 48K when I did the mission so I wasn't able to, but glad I didn't!

The L shaped ones? I got a bunch from the mobs at the entrance of Silver Canyon. You probably want to activate the nearby terminals first to increase the drop rate.

i accidentally used all mine around the canyon without using one on it so i cant get in :D

Anyway got one. Another question. I see people level all three options on each char (pistols, machine guns and grenades). I ve been leveling only one on each except vashyron (where i leveled grenades also). Should i level all three and if yes how? Havent figured a way to change items for grenades for example in the girl or use two guns etc.

I've been dreading this mission too - haven't touched it yet. BUT I heard the best possible tactic is to leave one of your handgun users in front of the statue, so it can't move, and charge guns blazing with your other two characters.

I've been only having each person specialize in one thing so far. Leanne/Vashyron are using handguns, and Zephyr is using the machine gun. Is it better to go this route, or is it better to level up everything on everyone equally? Is going one route over the other going to make a big difference in the end?

I suppose the general consensus is to level a bit of everything for everyone (so you get the benefit of leveling faster), but specialize in one spec for one character. You're going to need a high-level machinegun and a handgun user late in the game.

For at least the first one third/one half of the game I think it is much better to get the cheap bonuses from leveling up everything. Specialising from the beginning is just robbing yourself of easy levels. You can do it if you want though.

Block the statue with one of your characters, and have the other two consistently performing hero actions, focusing on one enemy at a time.

One of the handguns is a weaker gun. Use that user to block the statue from moving.

If you keep your guys in front of the enemies' line of fire, they'll target your guys instead of the statue.

Was the case ever settled on which version is the better one? I know early in this thread (before the game's release) there were some screenshots showing differences between the builds.

I've heard any differences in the final version are negligible at best and it doesn't really matter which version you get, and if so I'll probably go PS3. I know there's a freezing issue mentioned on this page, but it doesn't seem too widespread.

that's because it's pointless to discuss this stuff now. :p

Does anyone know if there's some sort of wiki with all the grid treasure locations? I wanna pile up on clothes for Leanne...

i had trouble in chapter 4 also, had some bad luck blowing up some of the enemies. explosives and incendiary rounds help out a lot. actually, when i got to the boss i unloaded on him with a lvl 11 SMG aerial shot with incendiary rounds. one molotov killed him on the next hero action. worked out for the best, since the statue had about a pixel of HP by that point! same strategy also made the
annoyingly cheap yeti.

I think everyone finishes that dungeon with super low statue HP.

Such a great game, funny, with great combat, awesome grinding, great customisation and tinkering and everything. It's pretty difficult for me, I don't really need the 9 additional difficulty levels, but the retry options eliminate all the frustration, and having to pay means that I don't really feel like I'm cheating when I retry (at least it's not that bad), so difficulty actually makes the game better. I've spent so much time on arena battles, grinding levels, farming and so on that atm I don't have any problems with difficulty, and now that I can make incendiary rounds and non-worthless grenades/molotovs, I can grind even more. About 30 hours in and I'm still only on chapter 5. Never expected this game to be so good.

If you really want to powerlevel your chars, wait until you unlock 20-3. Then link the 2x effect and 1.5x xp terminals to the arena using either the straight line colors or the green ones. You need about 80 of them. YOu might need to put a station up to get started.

I farmed the straight line ones on the roads by the forest. There is a rare item and item multiplier right by there and it only takes 15 or so of almost any color to link to those roads right by the forest. You also get mimics there which you should kill the shields for chance for the rare metal shard, which are very useful I heard for the scopes and the physical resist rings.

Once you get to 20-3, there is a gold slime. Kill the other two slimes and then with the person you want to level (wearing EXP trainer from the doll quests, auto trigger and the station bonuses) have them charge up to about 20-25x or so. It should take off 60-70% of the slimes HP. By the time you charge again, it should be full health. If it isn't, then just take off some gun mods. Just make sure the slime is targeting someone other than your dual MG user and stand right next to the slime. Skip everyone else's turn. It should take about 1-2hr at most to level from 20s on MG, to 100. Took me about 70 mins or so.

Do this with all 3 chars and you are now probably set until you need to prep for Neverland.

If you still want to level, do not kill the slime, just exit the arena and do it again. Once you kill the slime, it won't show up again since it will be 20-4.

I just did this last night while watching some TV, looking forward to being much more powerful now. Going to farm Arena 31 and 37, 38? For the rare scrapped parts and some other parts and try to almost fully upgrade my guns for charge accel and charge rate and I should be set for the rest of the game.
