I'm really enjoying this game, but damn it's hard. Also, I'm in chapter 5 and I still have no idea what's going on in the story. Does it ever make sense?

Nah, not really. :lol I kinda understood what has happened at the end of the game, but for the most part I didn't have a clue where the story is going. And why. And who all these people were. And what they were talking about.
Yeah, it's definitely confusing. :p

In the broadest terms, yeah, but it's presented in a completely incoherent fashion that by the time you get to the end nothing that happened feels like it mattered. They're clearly a developer that has huge problems in trying to tell a story though. This isn't even their worst.

Yeah, Tri-Ace aren't well known for thier story. Even VP games had weak story relatively to the ambition they had with the Norse Mythology.

Had this on my self for about 6 month and just started playing today. Logged in about 3 hours. I think i like the like heartedness of this game. Also the battle system is really fun.

so, i'm 32 hours into this game and have spent a great deal of that time grinding in the arena/in general. i've managed to muddle out the majority of how the combat works in this game, but i have a few questions:

-whats the appropriate level to be at for the final boss(es)? even with grinding i still run into sudden jumps in difficulty (effing colossus boss)
-how does dual-wielding work? are the values between the two weapons averaged? i notice that i charge much faster with one really tricked out MG, but using 2 obviously affords me an increase in damage. i guess its a matter of my preference?
-do enemies scale with you?

thanks in advance.

1) From what I remember its best to be 100+ in level when you face the bosses. The games difficulty does spike up a bit near the end. If you have been grinding then you shouldn't have a problem.

2) It averages Charge speed and charge acceleration. Personally I like to stick to one weapon.

3) No.

Just curious, as i'm seriously thinking of picking this up on sale at Amazon, but what's the save system like? I don't really have the patience anymore to have very sparse/limited save points (i think pc gaming has spoiled me alot in that respect :lol ).

Even as much as I love Persona 4, that was the biggest turnoff in the entire game for me (thank goodness for the pcsx2 emulator and save states)

You can suspend at any time. When you resume the game deletes the suspended save.

I think it's definitely worth playing. I'm really enjoying myself.

Save system is very flexible. You can buy stations that let you save/rest and place them practically anywhere on the map. I usually keep a few handy and plop them down before I enter a dungeon.

The only bad thing I can say about the save system is that you don't get to save between plowing through a dungeon and then getting to the boss. I guess you can do a quicksave then to save progress, but it's annoying because you get booted back to the game start screen.

OT: I think my game is bugged. Whenever I try to restart + reload hero gauge, it takes all the money required, but doesn't reload my gauge at all.

So just picked this up.

Any tips along the lines of "zomg don't miss this" or anything like that?

I don't think there's anything missable. Just keep up to date on the Chapter Quests (the "guild" in the game will give you quests to do each chapter. You usually have to check it twice (once before the story-mission, and once after) and there will be no surprises or unmarked quests). Do that, and you'll be fine. Also, make a note to go to Dakota Vein once it opens up mid way through the game to get a second machinegun. It'll be very helpful.

That won't work, because the game deletes the quicksave when you load it.

1) I went through the Arena to get all the Trophies, then took on Neverland, before attempting the final battle. So I was WAY overpowered. No idea really, though some people did mention there's quite a bit of endgame grinding, as typical for tri-Ace. I could see being in the 80's or 90's? A good idea would be to run through a few Arena matches (especially the ones in the 40's), and connect EXP up terminals to the Arena.

2) I'm not really sure, I think it's really up to how you wanna play.

3) Nope

Hmm does that mean you can't save in the middle of a dungeon? I'm kinda confused :lol

You can't do what I normally consider a save. Instead, you can "suspend". That saves your game, and quits you out to the menu. When you choose "resume", it loads that save, and then deletes it.

So it works for "it's late and I want to go to bed. I'll pick up here tomorrow". It does not work for "I'm saving to make a checkpoint in case I screw up and want to reload".

360 version is now 15.99 on Newegg. Buy GAF (and people lurking), buy!

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...m_re=resonance_of_fate-_-74-163-041-_-Product

PS3 version isn't up so I'm guessing that's now sold out.

We ever get any kind of worthwhile reports on how this game sold/shipped outside of Japan?

Yeah, this is as good as it gets at 16 bucks with free shipping. Nobody could go wrong. Hell, everybody in this thread attests to this game being awesome (including me) and it is. It's my favorite JRPG of the year and my favorite 360 game of the year next to Deadly Premonition. I mean it has Nolan North, Scott Menville and surprisingly enough, Charles "The voice of Mario" Martinet who I was surprised to see in the credits as
Cardinal Lagerfield
among others and I didn't even recognize his voice.

As for the whole dual wielding of weapons, personally, I tend to have at least one to two characters dual wield SMGs, and the third one either dual wielding HGs or a HG and grenades. Right now, I'm more less trying balance the levels though, high level SMG is a must especially because of full scratch rate and grenades are useful for splash damage and crowd control although I haven't touched the game in about a month or so.

And for newcomers of the game, the instruction manual is chock full of useful information and tips, among them to go train in the Arena to get used to the combat system and upgrade charge acceleration ASAP. Also, don't be afraid to die. If you die then it was because of poor strategy, so plan accordingly and always keep an eye on the number of Bezels you have left so you don't go into Condition Critical state.

I just got this for free from Amazon (had some store credit I didn't know I had, came out to about $18).

:D

I've been wanting to pick it up for a while.

So, I recently started playing this game. I just beat chapter four. A quick question:

Some of the terminals on the world map seem to have the colour white. How are those activated? I thought the colour would show what kind of hexes you should use to activate them, but using white hexes doesn't seem to work.

No, you can change those terminals into whatever colour you like to activate them. White is 'neutral', though, and doesn't do anything except for creating a path to walk on.

Oh, so the terminal gets assigned a colour by the first colour hex placed over it? Thanks a bunch! I was under the impression that only certain colours could be used for certain terminals. Time to put all my red hexes into use!

I guess my version is bugged to my advantage. Whenever I lose (in a boss fight, etc.) when I hit "restart" (without refilling the hero gauge) it restarts me in the same exact fight, but with full health and hero gauge. Is this normal?

Yup.. I NEVER once used the full hero gauge recovery. If worst came to worst, I exited the dungeon and regrouped (dungeons aren't THAT long), or just restarted.

My full hero gauge recovery is totally bugged. It takes tons of money, but doesn't recover the gauge. Took me two "aaaw fffffu" tries to realize that.

Need fine wine, but all we've got is raisins!

The actual story line may have sucked/been largely incomprehensible, but I loved the interactions between the main cast.

"Daddy does not approve!"

Yeah, absolutely. The story itself was pretty garbage, but there was a very fun, lighthearted dynamic between the main characters.

7+ hours in mostly due to grinding the prologue(I wanted some gun parts early), liking the game a lot though it seems so far that Zephyr is the only sharp dresser in the crew. :lol

Though that may be in part to the fact that the store only just opened up now.

I need to get something to fill out my Demon's Souls order to get it over $25, but I don't know if I should get the 360 or PS3 version of this game. Which one is better?

edit: Forget it, the 360 version costs $16 right now and the PS3 version costs $24, I'll just get the cheaper one. :lol

I need GAF's opinion.

After watching GT review, they made the game out to be pretty hardcore in the difficulty. Is the gameplay friendly to RPG noobs and those who don't like turn-based combat? Looking for a good RPG, but I'm picky when it comes to them because it's either love or hate.

The game is pretty much about how you set up and use your turns. If you don't like turn based combat, then I'm not sure it's for you.

I don't think the game is that hard ounce you figure out how the game works, but I'd say its a bit hardcore.

Alright, need help with this annoying statue escort mission in Chapter 4, before you ask I don't have molotov cocktails, I do have 20 incendiary rounds. The main issue I'm having is the rocket douchebags section which is two rooms before the main boss I have a person stay back keeping the statue in place while my MG and HG shoot the shit with these guys but they just ignore my guys and stay marching toward the statue.

edit: Just beat the boss with no incendiaries or molotovs, go me. Statue lived by a slither.
