Holy shit. I just tried out this SNES 1-chip that I picked up this weekend and god damn, the picture is so much brighter (in a good way) than my RGB modded mini!! I'm so fucking impressed with this console! My modded mini isn't one done by Voultar, its an older mod, so I can't compare it to his but it's definitely replacing the one I've been using. Wow,so happy right now, lol.

Also, can you switch out the guts from an american SNES into a Super Famicom? Never got around to doing it,just wonder if the internals are different.

1-Chips are known for having a brighter picture. This can lead to somethings being washed out.

What kind of friends do you have?????

Friends that think hooking a console up via composite on a flat screen with tons of input delay and stretching the picture is fine and I'm a lunatic for having a proper setup.

Looks good! Sounds like your mini has resistors on the output. I found mine too dark with them inline.

Haha yeah i am in the exact same boar - if they even care to bother with retro stuff at all :( The stretching is seriously the worst, wtf is up with that. I always have to resize the picture everywhere i go.

Haha Me too. I'm the guy that turns off everyone's "true motion " as I can't stand that either.

I turned it off on my friend's TV and he was like "what are you doing?" and I'm like "I'm sorry, you can't do this."

I will not accept it. This isn't a subjective thing -- there is right and there is wrong.

I didn't even realize Japanese cooking Youtube was a thing, though I guess I shouldn't be surprised. I should really learn to cook more Japanese-style stuff.

You're in for a treat!

Not only did I turn off a friend's true motion setting, when she was in the bathroom, I also ripped off the plastic wrap she left on the frame of the HDTV. I was holding that plastic like a fucking trophy when she came back to the couch.

I've read hit and miss impressions of OSSC on an LG B6 OLED.

Anyone have a first hand experience running a SNES through an OSSC to one of these sets?

And me still waiting for my Nt Mini to arrive :(

Fortunately while I'm waiting I learned how to dump my Virtual Console library so I can play it on my Everdrive. So I got that to look forward to!

I am still debating if I should put away my Framemeister for the OSSC. I love the way the OSSC works on my old 32" samsung that I used in my office. But I upgraded to a small Sony 4K and that doesn't support every resolution and I find that some systems look better in 3x or 4x vs 5x. My 4K only really supports 5x on every system so I can't bounce between 3x and 4x when I would like to.

The way my set up works right now. I have 2 outputs. 1 to my PVM and the other to my scaler (Framemeister). For games I need to consider input lag, I use the crt. When I want to sit back and chill I use the XRGB.

Are you opposed to just using 2X? That should be the most compatible.

You have to wonder what Micomsoft will do next. Seems like they could deliver a much better device for a good deal less in the next iteration.

That’s a gorgeous Twin Fami. Baphomet did my AV Famicom, and he did an amazing job.

I turned it off on my friend's TV and he was like "what are you doing?" and I'm like "I'm sorry, you can't do this."

Chac, you’re good people. True Motion can burn in hellfire for eternity.

Jeez one look at that doc scares me right off the OSSC. Might be helpful when you have that TV but what about the next one you buy.

I have a Framemeister already, but keeping tabs on the OSSC in case something happens where I might want one. I've found Framemeister to be pretty much plug and play (not to say it doesn't have a lot of settings you can fiddle with if you want, just that you mostly don't need to). Though i've heard people say the OSSC is even simpler to get going, it doesn't seem that way to me.

I know they've got a small TV compatibility list, but how come they can't publish the exact TV specifications required to use the various Line #X modes? I realise some TV manufacturers don't always publish full specifications themselves (even in manuals), but take this one from my TV:

Format name / Display resolution / Refresh rate / Horizontal frequency / Pixel Clock

That at least tells me I can't use any of the Framemeister's 50p output options.
From the OSSC Wiki, "Generic 4:3" modes are:
  • 720x480/576 (Line 2x)
  • 1280x720/864 (Line 3x)
  • 1280x960/1152 (Line 4x)
  • 1536x1080/1200 (Line 5x) with option to output 1920x1080, 1600x1200 or 1920x1200
Does that suggest my TV would only work with Line 2x, 3x and 5x (since those resolutions are listed in my TV specs) - or does the Refresh Rate, Horizontal Frequency or other specs of the TV come into it as well? I guess if Line 5x can output at 1080p but some TVs don't like it still... something else must be at play.
Wish I could give you a good answer here. This is still all very foreign to me and I can't even seem to find a list of supported resolutions for my TV to tinker with and see.

If you have a TV that can support all, or most, of the modes out of the box, it is pretty darned simple though. Just plug-and-play!

If you don't, well, it seems you almost need to be a video engineer to get anything above line 2x working (if it's possible at all) :p

Guess I'll just have to be satisfied with 2x (which, in all honesty, is so dramatically better than direct-to-TV-via-composite it's plenty)

Has anyone moved to an OSSC only setup?

Seriously considering it after trying the OSSC for the first time yesterday (line5x mode). My jaw hit the floor, total game changer, this thing - with scanlines on the picture looked near identical to my BVM-A20F1U, but with perfect geometry. That's on a 1440p PC monitor though, it didn't fare too well through my 1080P Sony projector.

Unfortunately I had to fly back to work this morning, I wanted to try it on my 1600x1200 PC monitors but that will need to wait for another 2 weeks.

BTW my OSSC was stuck in customs for 2 weeks, very strange how a lot of us are experiencing the same delivery issues!

BTW if any of you have not played Bangai-O, Dreamcast version in 240p, do it now. This is my go-to game for low res eye candy, it looks absolutely sensational on a decent display. The game is exceptional also.

If anyone has recommendations for their favourite 240p titles, let me know!

Quick and probably stupid question. How do you guys take pics of CRT TVs without the TV refresh rate / shutter speed combo fucking up the picture? Do you lower the shutter speed of your cameras? Or is it just that my TV is a pos?

I wanted to send a few pics my brother asked for with the RGB cables I bought and wondered about it when I saw the black bar.

Bangai-O is fantastic.

Carefully. You can mess with the shutter speed and also hold the lens close to the screen and let it focus on the pixels before backing up. Taking a picture in an otherwise dark room also helps.

If you have a 4K TV or are planning to get one soon, OSSC's the better option as the Framemeister's zoom and scaling feature is redundant when the TV already has it

This has nothing to do with something being a 4K TV and fully depends on what the manufacturer includes. I've also never seen a TV with anywhere near the scaling and zooming features of the Framemeister.

I can't decide between OSSC and framemeister. ugh.

The first thing I would do is make sure that the model TV you have AND the consoles you want to play with it play nicely together with the OSSC included. Not all TVs, modes, and systems do. So figure out that out first before making a decision. The last thing you want to do is drop 200 bucks on something that ends up not working with your TV. Also make sure that the systems you are going to run with the OSSC either output RGB or Component or can be modded to do so. As there is no S-Video or Composite input on it.

Manually set your shutter speed to 1/60!

I have the N64 version of Bangai-O and it looks glorious in 240p. I need to give the Dreamcast version a try.

As for 240p showpeices, Battle Garegga is one of my favorites.

Oh man, my OSSC can't come sooner. Sounds like the October batch might start getting mailed out a lot sooner, so I might not have to wait very long to get mine.

I am but it doesn't matter because it doesn't work with my tv (Sony 800D) anyway.

SNES Only works in 5x with optimal 240p and one of the 1200p resolutions.

N64 looks awful but 3x-5x work.

PS1 actually works passthrough-5x. still looks wrong. Lot of noticeable cross hatching. 1200p resolution seems to help in 5x.

Genesis works 3x-5x. General 4:3 is soft but passable.

NES, I use an analogue NT. So no clue about the ossc.

Wii/Gamecube are great in 480p pass through. 960 works but 480p pass through looks best.

PS2 looks great in 480i (bob) and 4x.

My Samsung 1080p set is too small but handles most of the resolutions without issue.
My 1080i early 2000s HDTV supports native 240p and 480p native looks great. 2x is the only other resolution I could get out of it for scaling.
My Dell 1440p Gysnc monitor doesn't do 3x. Total bummer on that. Not worth using.

There should be a mono sound input.
