Returnal may be headed to Steam!

MS owns Windows.

Sony doesn't have any control over Steam or Windows. Again, if MS didn't release on Steam they still have their own store to sell games on Windows. Sony HAS to use Steam.

MS owning Windows is irrelevant as far as Valve is concerned. Valve doesn't pay Microsoft a dime for its client to be on Windows. Sony could create their own store on Windows and also not pay a dime to Microsoft. Of course they won't since Steam is king and it would probably be just as unsuccessful as the MS store in PC gaming. The fact that both Microsoft and Sony have to use Steam is about as much proof that Valve owns PC gaming market as anything.

lmao MS basically owns the PC market. Even if MS didn't release on Steam you can still play their games on PC at the same time as consoles. And get this....if you buy it on one platform you won't need to buy it a second time to play on the other.

I think they do.

good for you. buy i'd rather not waste £450 on a PS5 if their games are going to eventually release on PC. i don't care if i have to wait a year, two, or more. I'm not spending £450 on something I don't really need.

also, you'll get it for cheaper on PC. and of course...much better graphics/performance than PS5.
They own the OS market, not the gaming market. And their OS sucks! W11 is Vista 2.0, resource hog pos.

As for your last statement most active PCs won't get better graphics or performance. How many high end rigs do you think are out there?

Great news! Will definitely check this one out.
This will be the first PS5 only game heading to PC isn't it?

Hoping for some DLSS goodness as well.

Yeah, I believe that is right. The only other PS5 only game is R&C, I believe.

This branch has already turned into a circus.

We have Sackboy, who appeared on steamdb back in October last year.
There is still no port announcement or even a rough release date.

Too most now with Returnal. It may come out at the end of the year. It may come out next spring.

This is the kind of game that doesn't have the financial potential of a big blockbuster and would be better off on PC.

But, one user with gold status is already trolling the entire branch with his moronic predictions.
Nothing new.

Implying just because they launch day one on pc all of a sudden the hundreds of millions of console players like me won't buy the next playstation anymore?

The more and faster Sony release their games on PC, the less people will buy PS exclusive games on PS5, sub to PS+, buy PS hardwares, and even buy 3rd party games on PS5

With this rate of releasing PS games on PC, PS6 won't have the momentum following its precedents PS plateforms, meanwhile Steam will keep becoming bigger and bigger each time.

I can tell you right now I will continue to prefer consoles as long as they make them so will the millions of others.

Me too, but we're just 2 people out billions.

I called it! Some of you said I was nuts. But I just had a strong feeling returnal would come to pc. Demons souls will too. These ps5 exclusives that didn't sell 10m well need additional sales on pc.

Good. Not surprised. Looks like 1.5 years is the gap for PC releases.

It's all individual. Why draw conclusions at the expense of one game that has no financial potential at all due to its genre? And again, this is steamdb. We have Steamdb for Sackboy from last year. Where is this game? Where is at least the announcement of the port?

The game is very demanding of the PS5. They wouldn't be upscaling plus
checkerboarding from 1080p if it wasn't. Will make for a great benchmark trying to hit native 4K 60fps at max settings.

inb4 a 2060 hitting 4K lol

but for realy I always found it weird how demanding the game apparently is. it doesn't look thr part that's for sure

More than the amount of PS5s for sure.

But what is the use of having a console with supposed exclusives, if it will eventually come out on PC?

There is no point in having a ps5, for that it is better to have a high-end pc.

What a garbage take. I have a high end PC. Also have a PS5. I purchased Returnal last year with my PS5. Enjoyed the hell out of it and still do. I'm glad it's coming out on PC and other can enjoy it; it's such an amazing game.

What the hell is the point of this statement? Like seriously, I legit don't understand. Utterly asinine.

Well, if you are a donkey who is going to wait 2-3 years for ports on a PC, then you are welcome.
Other people have a life that can end at any moment, and they are not going to wait for what they want to get now.

I know a lot of people who criticized MS and Xbox because of this same thing about a year ago are now changing their minds (one of the mysteries of life). But I think that console sales won't be much affected by it, because I don't believe that the main selling point for consoles are their exclusives, but simply their ease of use, dedicated hardware and that they're designed to be put anywhere in house. I don't see any of the casual players I know buying a PC just to play games, they own consoles though.

But I gotta say, PC is really a wonderful platform to play games.

Wow. Add another Nvidia leak game to the list. Makes sense given how gung ho Jim Ryan is yesterday with all those investor slides talking about growth and PC mention was in many of them.

LOL. It's video games. Anyone can wait. Let's not confuse game launches with needing to do a bucket list before dying from cancer.

Exclusives maybe very important for certain people, but not for the majority. Microsoft is beating the 360 with 0 exclusvives and a shitty year 2022 (so far).

Curious about the Steam reviews on this one. Some people really liked it but to me it was a huge disappointment, a great shooter with excellent movement mechanics but completely misunderstanding what makes a rogue like interesting and worth pushing through: variety, decision making, power curve etc.

And I really tried to get into it but would rather play RoR 2 instead.

The point is not everyone games on a new gen console and good PC rig at the same time. Time, money, space etc... I dont game on a PC unless you want to count my 3 year old laptop playing $5 GOG oldies the same as someone with an RTX 2070 or 3080.

But your mention of being chill with others playing the same game on different platforms is the right attitude. Not everyone is like that as they wanted walled off ecosystems because someone playing Returnal on PC a couple years later is like the apocalypse of betrayal.

No. Those people who write garbage about "Why do we need ps5" definitely want to play this game, and wait grittingly for when it will be released on PC in order to write some shit on the forum. Normal people play games and they don't care at all. If they want to play a game, they'll go out and buy it, on any platform, rather than wait around whining about ports.

high end rigs? why would you need a high end PC to play PS5 games?

you need at most a mid range PC nowadays to match PS5 performance
and if you're ok with lower resolutions not even that. (1080p monitors are still very popular on PC after all)

I agree. I don't want to sit around wondering/hoping a PS game will come to my PC. When God of War:R releases, I'll be playing it day one on PS5.

If you're a compulsive buyer that is. I'm not much interested in this game, although I might check it out eventually, but even if I was I wouldn't buy a whole platform, specially that giant piece of hardware that the PS5 is, just to play one game when there's a lot of other games that I'm also interested to play that does not require me to buy it. I think most normal people would also think that way.

Exactly.

Making it not worth getting a PS5 to play these games day one makes even more sense since getting a PS5 is tough to begin with. In order to play all these Sony exclusives day one requires someone scoring a system. It's been 1.5 years since system launch and there's still tons of gamers who cant even find one yet. So if access to playing games is hard enough, might as well stick to PC and everyone has one at home. And if someone doesn't have a decent PC at home, it's easier to buy one or build one than finding a PS5 unless they go the ebay scalped route.

Who knows when Returnal comes put for PC, but unless PS5 stock ramps up, it might get to a point a gamer will have an easier time playing it (on PC), than playing it on a PS5.

a PS5 is 3 to 4 times cheaper than a PC. It doesn't need troubleshooting and it's managed by Sony. I know this is bait but still, lol, what a silly comment.

With games like Returnal maybe This is a pretty niche thing, for its own. I don't think many people will be waiting for a new God of war in a few years on PC. Of course, a certain group of people may want to wait. But, for example, I know about ten people who bought the first part on PC, not interested in the series at all, and now just want to buy a PS5 to play the second as soon as it comes out.

Agreed, waiting 18+ months for their best games to come to PC doesn't interest me.

Not only that, but as you say Ryan said only half will be ported and we don't know what that list is going to be.

I was told on this board that it would only be games that came out 4 years ago and they wouldnt port ps5 games to pc.

Anyone want to apologize for calling me a concern troll?

Source?

Doubtful and if so it will soon be overtaken at the current market prices.
It's not even remotely close. There are 19m total PS5s sold while 49m desktop graphics cards were sold in 2021 alone. That means 49m RTX 3xxx or RDNA 3 graphics cards.

Add to that high end laptops and you realise what a niche PS5 is and why Sony is begging for some scraps from the enormous PC gaming market.

Most likely, we are talking about games-services.
And most likely, they will immediately go to the PC, along with the console.
Because these are games built on microtransactions.
There is another logic at work here.

half of their games only of course... I mean they won't port their mobile games to PC ;)

also the delay will get shorter and shorter, guaranteed
