Returnal may be headed to Steam!

do you have numbers how how many cards have sold that are on the level of an RTX3060 or up?

I would bet those are more than the amounts of PS5s sold

RTX3060 and RTX2070s level cards match PS5 quality most of the time (with RT on they beat it usually)

so you combine sales for the RTX2070s, 2080, 2080s, 2080ti, Titan RTX, 3060, 3060ti, 3070, 3070ti, 3080, 3080ti, 3090 and 3090ti
and then you'll have the number of PCs out there matching or beating PS5 performance

and that's only the Nvidia side of things

without ray tracing you can also add the 1080, 1080ti, Titan X and Titan XP

The closest stat we have is Steam hardware survey. I pulled these numbers:

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Laptop GPU 2.57%
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 2.11%
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 1.87%
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER 1.79%
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Ti 1.50%
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 1.23%
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Ti 0.73%
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Laptop GPU 0.69%
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER 0.68%
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 0.60%
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti 0.54%
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Ti 0.52%
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 0.45%
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 1.31%
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti .91%
AMD Radeon RX 6600 XT .3%
AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT .19%
AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT .15%
AMD Radeon RX 6600 .15%

So that's around 18-19% of all PCs surveyed on Steam. Steam has 132 million monthly active users according to google. So that is 24.4million gamers on Steam with rigs equal to or greater than PS5.

What does it matter how many Rtx30 have been sold? People don't build pc for just playing games, there people who want to mine, people who want to edit or have a decent pc for their personal reasons. My father was buys 2000-3000€ PC ( with peripherals, after saving for years) for just casually altering family photo on a cracked Photoshop and play Solitaire. I think half the forum thinks whoever has PC is a gamer....

well, ok then, lets say only 50% use them for gaming, that's still more units sold than the PS5

so ok, I quickly went through the Steam user suevey numbers and found

15,86% of users on steam have a GPU as powerful or more powerful than the PS5's GPU (and jesus, newer AMD cards are really selling badly it seems... damn)

monthly active users of steam are around 120 million (these are outdated numbers from 2021 I think too, so higher now most likely)

that's ~19 million steam users alone.

edit: lol, just did the same xD

I have both and a pc is not the same as console. Console has some advantages and pc other advantages, both are good for gaming depends what you want. But whoever has a discrete GPU is not a gamer..and I prefer to be fool and not think that everyone who buys a GPU is a gamer.
You're right and he doesn't have data proving those 50m are comprised of only next-gen card, some next-level BS right here.

The haptics legit broke my R2. Such a good game.
Do an experiment and play it with a muted tv. And disable the controller speakers.
You will still hear everything through vibration lol
I'll give it a go for a laugh, but my reflexes are so shite now (that and readjusting back to controller aiming, as well as having a dodgy hand from a motorcycle accident) I'll be utterly ruining my current loop if I play without sound. I seem to rely on it much more as since I entered my 4th decade.

That chart doesn't say it's next gen cards alone. So...
Source?
Any graphics card below next gen (RTX 3xxxx and RDNA 3) got discontinued and out of production in 2020. Do I have to inform you about everything? It's like me not knowing when PS5 came out or how much it has sold and then trying to argue with you.

Educate yourself or don't get into arguments you got no clue about.

You don't have any data whatsoever saying it's only those cards so unless you can prove that I'm calling it BS.

Outside of our argument, I had whole my life Nvidia cards except when I bought of the shelf and the pc specialist was so hyped for AMD cards and convised me to get a PC with AMD GPU.... Worst mistake I ever done, I haven't until then have to troubleshoot so much(10 years ago). But thanks to that card and the guy I learned how to build on my own. Nvidia+AMD CPU is better for me at least.

even without issues, currently AMD cards are just very underwhelming compared to Nvidia still

Goood work. You missed the Nvidia 1080ti, AMD 5700xt and the entire RDNA 3 range.

Also bare in mind 120m active steam users which means active on Steam the past 30 days. I can easily imagine a couple of million PS5s not being turned on for 30 days.

Add to that people not active on steam playing Warzone, world of warcraft, Fortnite, Escape from Tarkov etc.

Would be neat if Sony is a first mover supporting the DirectStorage stuff on PC for fast loading so Returnal (and eventually Ratchet and others) play and load like on PS5.

I really want, in my head, to eliminate my PC for gaming and accept the simplicity of consoles, but I find I just can't. I like the power. I like max'ing stuff out and seeing native 4k, high end settings, and now up to proper full resolution 120 FPS on my G2. It's nutty good, and I find the differences to most console quality levels pretty significant in any A/B testing I do. I don't like waiting 3-5 years for a new piece of hardware when a sweet new PC GPU generation is available maybe every ~18 months or less.

Cost doesn't affect me, thankfully. It sucks that a high end gaming PC is $3k-$4k and many times the cost of an individual console, but I can afford it in my financial situation. And the comparison too isn't one PC vs. one console, it's one PC vs. an Xbox and a PS5 (for me cause I would have both) and the accessories and such that would go with both consoles. So adding bigger SSDs to two consoles, extra controllers for 2 platforms, paid online services, and so on you're in for nearly $2k as it is to fully outfit an XSX plus a PS5. The effective cost delta is shaved down a lot.

I only game in a living room on a TV with a controller, no office nor KBM, as well. So quick resume, pick up and play, easy auto updates, and all that stuff on consoles is soooo appealing. And when I played games like Spider-Man on PS5, they still do look so good, I feel like could be enough. But...

Ah....added those in except for 5700 XT. I don't think that is on par with PS5.

Selene nude mods ... maybe.

132 million MONTHLY users. Not active users in total.

Steam had hundreds over hundreds of millions of users, we dont have those stats though. The steam hardware is not made from a sample of 132 million. Its made from the entirety of steam's userbase. We dont really know what the percentages from steam hardware are, but its much more than your calculations

I hope it gets more love there as well. I believe PC gamers in general have some niche audience heavily invested in roguelike/lite.

It wouldn't surprise if this becomes a pretty big hit on PC. The install base was pretty small on PS5 when it launched and it's one of those games that will fit perfectly for M+KB.

I can see it doing very well with the PC userbase, it's a very good game and it definitely deserves to be enjoyed by as many people as possible.

So... Whats the point to get a ps5?
To enjoy games on a specific spec to ensure a quality experience at a low cost of admission. Consoles, PC and Mobile all have a place and it's all about preference. Personally, I don't mind. Releasing on multiple platforms doesn't devalue the games I enjoy playing. Returnal doesn't speak to me, but I'm excited for Horizon Forbidden West among some other games. Let's not forget, Sony gets that money to make more great games. I've never had an issue with Sony's games, but I've always hated their ego, something which the fanboys share.

more money = more games. Don't shun multi-plat because you have a preferred hunk of plastic.

Thanks for the correction on the active monthly users. Updated the post. Valve says these numbers are from a "monthly survey". It does not say it is from the "entirety of steam's userbase". Either way, these are the numbers we have. Also, the purpose of this was to answer the question as to whether there are more PC gamers out there with rigs more powerful than PS5. Based on this, the answer is yes.

Will buy instantly. Played a bit on PS5 because I wanted to try it, but I need to play this with mouse and keyboard. Hope it's a good port.

I game on PC and console as well. I agree there are advantages to both. Personally, I go back and forth. Sometimes I want max frames and high quality with PC. Other times, I want to hunt trophies on PS5. Which is "better" is entirely subjective and depends greatly on what kind of gaming experience one is trying to achieve.

Honestly?

PS4 back compat and physical games.

There will be some ps5 games that never make it to PC, but I suspect it will be a very small number.

Me personally unless it's something I really want a physical copy of, I'm going to wait for PS5 exclusives to hit PC. And as for a ps6, I'm just glad I don't have to bother.

The take was legit and time is not sometging everyone cares about
But it is for many when you try to push a narrative of "why get a ps5". I dont want to wait to play these games that im really interested in. As people before me have also mentioned the price of entry for console is also still relevant for the type of performance without me having to go out and buy or build a pc just to be able to say i have 40 tflops or whatever machine. In most cases the results show marginal or little to no difference that matter to me. You have to remember these games will always be optimized for ps5 first pc an after thought.

The only way i consider leaving the console space is if sony is dumb enough to start releasing day and date first party games that are not live service or a previous 3rd party publishers games (if they acquire one) that was already releasing titles on pc simultaneously.

PS5 owner here, bought it last year and I played a total of 7 games on it with 3 of them being replays than actual new games because wanted to play with RT(both spider-man, metro exodus) and I initially bought it just for Lost Judgment and Demon Souls hoping more good stuff would come. I don't exactly regret mu purchase but when someone asks this question I really do not blame them at all, especially if they own a high-end PC like I do. So far, the invesment has not payed off. If they dare launch a pro next year with this amount of games, I'm just going to sell it most likely.

Sounds fine if you have a PS5. But what if a PC gamer wants to play the game with PS5 gamers but cant find a system for the past 1.5 years?

If it turns out the game will come out in another year, it might not be worth to keep looking for a PS5 to buy. Just sit back and wait for the PC version and dont bother with hassling to find a PS5.

Yep. Best of both worlds is the way to go, boys.

Hell fuckin yes.
Would love to play this with tighter controls.
Will wait and see how it turns out. Mods will be glorious.

A PS5 is much cheaper and convenient than PCs. I get it, PC's are "superior" in nearly every way, except the way that a casual cares about... plug & play, convenient, and cheap(er).

OT: Great news, I think it's a game that a lot of ppl on PC would really enjoy. I might even double dip and pick it up.

How the hell GTX 1080 is "equal or greater than PS5"? it is a 8.8 TF/110 Gpixel/s GPU with 320 GB/s of bandwidth and just 2 mb of L2 cache. Are you Steve from Gamer Nexus?..

REALLY ?!!!!
TRIGGER ALARM TRIGGER ALARM !!!!!!

Like wtf?! I would say the opposite - There is no reason to own a high-end pc!!!
-You wait 2 years for games
-It costs 4-6 times more. No. It's not 2x more.
-It can be a pain in the ass with launchers, drivers, settings, weird mouse support or not depenging on the game... sometimes there is an error and the game works for everyone else. We all had that experience.
-You can achieve better graphics? hahaha sure. For 3k usd and get marginally better resolution.

Dude. I have 3080pc and ps5. The point of ps5 is not to be highest end gear. It is a 400$ machine that have exclusive, amazing games day 1. It is plug and play comfort entertaining system. For those tired of bs.
If pc and ps5 were the same price, I would still pick a console.
That said - I love pc but I like to tinker a lot and experiment. But not always. Many times I like to chill.
For example - I want to play AC origins and I am getting it for PS. I dont want uplay and 60fps patch should be out soon. My experience on pc would not be that much better
Not to mention the shader compilation stutters plaguing the DX12 games.

I wasn't sure about that either, but decided to include it anyway. But take it away and it doesn't make much different in the results. What would you say is the equivalent of PS5 on the Nvidia side?

But what is the use of having a console with supposed exclusives, if it will eventually come out on PC?

There is no point in having a ps5, for that it is better to have a high-end pc.

You get access to the PS Plus subscriptions and Plus free games, you get to play on bigger, better displays (how many PC gamers have monitors anywhere near as good as modern flagship TVs), you get to play games day one and not everyone can afford a high end PC.

Going "instead of spending $499, why not just spend $1500" is quite a weird twist.

what a surprise! i was told by many people on here i would need to wait YEARS to play PS games on PC.

seriously, keep this up and i won't need to buy a PS5 at all :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Thanks jim :messenger_blowing_kiss:
That's because they want to be able to downplay the game releasing to PC -meaning it would have been forgotten and no longer needed as a game to dick swing about when these console wars come up here.

I desperately need that PC release date for the Uncharted legacy of thieves collection.
June 20, 2022 is a safe bet if the Epic leak is real.
Official words from PlayStation would be nice though.

I can see Uncharted releasing in June/July, with another one (Maybe Two) before end of fiscal year.
