It's all temporary. In about 50 short years, those rich bastards will be in the same place as our broke asses.

Yep. "The Millionare Next Door" is a good book that looks at the average lives of millionares. The majority are first generation and didn't inherite the money but the ones that do usually end up blowing through it. Most of of the self made millionares are actually pretty frugal (unless they belong to the upper-upper wealth group)

I don't understand how they could get this receipt.

This is the menu from the place:

The worst part for me about this thread is rich people overusing hashtags, one would expect they had some taste and decency.

No seriously, whats with these hashtags? worst thing on the internet, even worst when is used on freaking facebook or other sites where it does nothing.

Oh and its also pretty sad that you have access to really great cameras but decide to stick to freaking Instagram, seriously WTH?

Surface of Me

I'm not an NPC. And neither are we.
Not really too jealous, the traveling and not having to worry about health bills are the only things I really envy. A town over from mine has about double the median income per household. Not near as rich as these kids, but you can still see quite a difference between the two places. Overall the kids over there seem much more prideful over their parents money, as well as much more spoiled and much more entitled. They all have iPhones and fake tans. Not really my type of people.

Nice to see Bourdieu brought up. People should read his stuff, or at least certain sections of his work. I agree though, his writing is just so ridiculously dense. It's obnoxious.

Agreed on both counts. Fantastic ideas, but Christ his writing is flowery. Think it's a French thing. Definitely one of the better recent writers on class.

I went to a private high school in the XVIème district of Paris (the guy sitting next to me my first semester there was worth 500 million euros, to give you an idea).

I wish I could travel as much, and be less stressed money-wise. That's about it, all the material wealth didn't make any of them any happier.

I think it's because these people make life look easy. No one realizes how hard the landing is when falling from that kind of height. Too many people feel like the wealthy have things or do things they'll never be able to. I used to be that way and I simply grew out of it. As I got older, I learned a little more about the world and that not things are as they appear on the surface. A lot of these rich kids have pretty screwed up lives.
I agree, I was a rich kid growing up and having to deal with the real world is a shock to the system. My folks are upper middle class I guess or low upper class. I had things handed to me, cars, money for any debt I came into to get out of trouble. At one point I blew over 100K in a year doing jack shit in life. Then I burned a few too many bridges with my family and had to make it on my own.

It was rough, really rough but I think I'm a better person for it in the end. I make enough to get by now and enjoy simple stuff like movies and eating out once a month but I'm more happy then when I was handed stuff because I earned it myself. I do miss having money when ever I please for whatever I please but whatever, I like where I am now and maybe one day I'll get back to that point.

It's all fun and games drawing attention to your wealth until somebody gets kidnapped and ransomed for their parents money....

I have actually been to the Miami Beach Nikki Beach club and it cost us over a $1000 for two bottles of vodka. This is the real deal folks, go to any exclusive club and see for yourself.

But that receipt is fake though. It has been on the internet for a loong time.

Those people look like swedes.

It's a danish guy. The house doesn't look that impressive, other than the nice architecture.

Eh, I'm glad somebody mentioned the Hamptons. I've been to some really shitass guettos in Eastern Europe, but I've never, ever felt so repulsed by the population of a particular zone as the last time I was in Southampton.

There is rich, there is filthy rich and there is spoiled, asshole rich. The latter seem to make much of the Hamptons.

I really don´t see the problem with those kids spending this insane kind of money on idotic things. Lots of people make their living catering to the "needs" of these people.

That sentence works perfectly for the English city as well.

I haven't been to either of them

exactly, i don't understand how people are so involved and obsessed with a 'socialite' like that. They don't do anything, like at all.

I feel like they have some weird obsession with obtaining that type of lifestyle; being a socialite, living in manhattan, going to clubs etc...

Weird.

This is why we should not increase taxes on the wealthy. Look at all this cool stuff they buy! They are more than paying their fair share in taxes through sales taxes. I am loving these pictures though!

Jesus, you're right. It's more like $125,000.

EDIT: But the prices on the website don't seem to be that high. Hmm. That receipt is fishy.

I can guarantee you that in some places in St Tropez or Paris you can get a coke or an Evian (water) for 10€ each.

I was there on Saturday (called Nammos now). No. I didn't spend 50K

Have you answered what your job is, I haven't been following the thread. Also, have you seen Royal Pains? Do you know the people that own the house where the show takes place? That's the Hamptons right?
