Rise of Skywalker premiere press impressions are streaming in

So woke reviewers don’t like the movie? The movie might be half decent? It sounds like JJ combined what he sort of invisioned TLJ to be, and then crammed in a third film’s worth of plot.
Hopefully Kennedy gets moved out of the Star Wars department, after all is said and done.

Yea, they'll move her out and replace her with her twin sister just to fuck with the internet.

Aren't these the pathetic sycophants Disney invited to their premiere just because their Disney social credit score was exemplary? Holy shit, this is gonna be hilarious, for the first time in years Star Wars is entertaining me for all the wrong reasons. Not that I was ever a big fan but what Disney is cynically doing to their products is very interesting and it brings me joy when it backfires on them. Let's hope Disney's capeshit eventually meet the same fate.

The "critics" loved TLJ and IMO it was terrible not just as a SW movie but as a movie in general.
So I don't know how to interpret this having mixed reactions.

When someone says they need more time to process how they feel about a movie they've just seen and that they were hyped about, it translates as "it sucked but I'm not emotionaly ready to admit it yet".
LOL that was me after The Dark Knight Rises

Right after the movie:
"That was awesome"
next day:
"was that awesome?"
next day:
"It wasn't that awesome.."
next day:
"damn that kinda sucked"

I can definitely relate to this, as I've done it myself several times...

Looks like all the blue-haired journalists who creamed themselves over TLJ are disappointed- which means there is hope that it’s at least a decent, serviceable SW movie. Kind of like how I felt after Revenge of the Sith.

I am going to see it Sunday morning at 8 AM by myself. Already got the ticket. I don't know what to expect.

I'm seeing it Thurs at 9 PM and I completely un-hyped for this. I'm going to hate-watch it.

I hope I'm wrong, and I hope I love it.

But I'm going in prepared for the worst.

I'm certainly ready for this trilogy to be over at this point... Going to see ROS Saturday, so hopefully I can avoid spoilers until then.

Wow I expected to click on the thread and get early press impressions of the movie and instead all I got was a bunch of white supremacists denying the cinematic masterpiece known as [checks bank account for Disney cash] Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker™ available in theaters starting December 20th, 2019.

Fairly mixed opinions for a major Star Wars release though a lot of the detractors appear to be fans of The Last Jedi, which kinda makes those reviews potentially positive. =P

I'm not sold though but I'm seeing it with friends so...we'll see. At the very least it'll end this saga and I can move on from Star Wars for good.

Why it's so hard to trust anyone on their Star Wars review #1138

'It's kind of interesting to think that C-3PO was Vader's robot toy when he was a kid.'

'Bwahh??'

If the TLJ militia is frustrated with this movie, that might just be the one thing that makes me go see it

The site I checked for collecting reactions was mostly positive, even the negative ones included blurbs like "it gives you everything you want and more, but that's part of the problem" and it's like... okay... or one said "will give hardcore fans what they want but I wasn't happy" it's like... cool...

A lot of these sites have pushed bullshit clickbait Rey theories for five years. Not only are their theories not realized in the movie, but their source of clickbait is drying up for about three years.

When Force Awakens and Last Jedi came out all the reviews said that the “Film is the best Star Wars since Empire Strikes Back”. Don’t trust critics. JJ Abrams has yet to make a great film IMO and usually has interesting setups but misses the mark and leaves questions unanswered (Super 8, TFA, Lost).

He was a poor choice to hire for 9.
To be fair, it's wasn't his responsibility to end 2/3 that you named.

Don't be fooled by the negative SJW reviews. That doesn't translate to "opposite of TLJ and therefore good."

It just means the film is probably a hot mess, which even the TFA and TLJ fans can't deny.

An absolute wreck of a trilogy, and I look forward to reading the plot synopsis on Wikipedia to confirm the reddit leak instead of giving Disney money.

It's weird I'm going into this movie the exact opposite mindset I had with TLJ. Was super excited and hyped for TLJ, left confused and angry because I had convinced myself it was gonna be awesome. Now with TROS I couldn't be any less excited and pessimistic, hopefully the opposite happens yet again.

Again, the worst Star Wars movie is 10x better than any movie out there, directors matter, and are a big deal, adjusting from one director to the next is a big deal, the second film in the series has a different energy, what is said from these early reviews is that we're in for a show but should be tame'd expectations.

I feel vindicated in abandoning this IP after TLJ.
kill the past, avoid seeing this cash grab if you have to

Yoda: "failure the best teacher is."

me: *thinks* "i can't wait to see what Lucasfilm learns from this giant failure of a trilogy!"

KK: "We are abandoning all trilogies from now on!"

This thread is tsundere as fuck

Ehh... I gotta see it through. I mostly liked TFA and while I was massively disappointed by the choices made in TLJ, I still had a decent enough time watching it in the theater. I still want to see how this wraps up.
