Like how people assume you're Asian whenever you drop your pants?

Google is your friend...

Blackfishing (kinda like catfishing) is presenting yourself as black when you're another "race" .... Like an Asian or white person darkening their skin and changing their hair style to purposely look black or half black. Like this girl below.

And @SLoWMoTIoN black women straighten their hair because corporate America deemed it more acceptable in the work space than their natural kinky hair. There's a whole history behind this. This has been going on since black women were allowed to work in white Businesses (and you know what I mean by that considering the history).

Isn't that just a tan?

What about skin bleaching/contacts though?

No, not just a tan. She had a video on instagram some time ago using makeup to darken her face, body and hands while also putting her hair in styles you usually see black or black biracial women use.

And skin bleaching isn't about "cultural appropriation". The ones who do this really think lighter skin will make them more attractive and successful. Shoot... It's a whole industry selling.that EXACT conceit in India, Thailand, China, Nigeria, Jamaica, Haiti, etc.

Edit, contacts... Really? Everyone does it. There's black people with natural born gray eyes, blue eyes, green eyes and hazel eyes. They're not the majority but it's more than a few. But everyone (not literally everyone but you know what I mean) does it. White, black, Asian, etc.

This is cultural appropriation

But this isn't?

I think people shouldn't even bring up cultural appro when everyone is trying to be something they aren't.

Dude... Colorism doesn't have to be because of white people. China has been doing it for a very long time. Long before they met white people. India too. Some countries do it because of colonialism but not all. Colorism and the caste system is real.

And having whiter skin doesn't do jack to make anyone look better. Though there's been studies stating that having lighter skin does make you more successful in the job market.

I'm saying how some people can preach and make a black is king flick, while bleaching their skin and dying their hair blonde man.

That's besides the point.

All these people crying about cultural appropriation aren't exactly keeping it real themselves.

see above.

"Assuming all black people dress "black" and have "black" hairstyles is racist - pure and simple white privilege!"
Also:
"Wait, she's not black? She dressed black and wore black hairstyles! She's racist!"

Sometimes, I think maybe COVID-19 is right, and maybe we're wrong.

I for one find for one the most racist people are generally the ones who seem to think people should stay in their 'cultural' lanes , as if culture is some fixed thing versus something that changes over time. 🤔

Civilisation as we know it is a surprisingly short lived thing in the grand scheme of things (barely a few thousand years out of the estimated 196 thousand that Homo Sapiens have been around) so this idea that certain ideas of what people can or cannot be are 'fixed' really feels like it comes from people with little if any grasp of the world beyond their own self interest at the end of the day.

Beyonce doesn't bleach her skin, tho. Have you seen her mom? There's tons of light skinned black folks. And dying her hair? And? So white people don't dye their hair to brunette, blonde, red, salt and pepper, brown... ? My own sister's hair is naturally sandy brown... And she's 100% black. Malcolm X and Redd Foxx both had natural red hair. You're speaking as if black people are only dark skinned with jet black kinky hair and we have no physical diversity without being mixed.

Black people are just as physically diverse as anyone else in this world.

This is actually a good read about why black women straighten their hair. There's a lot of historical context that still exists today (the aforementioned corporate America) for why black women do it.

I think people are "upset" because she looks like a biracial woman, coupled with the tan and hair styles. And folks assumed she was. I looked at the pics and thought "Yeah she looks biracial"... If not for this thread, I wouldn't have known.

Who cares what her racial makeup is?

I don't think it's that people care... It's just people thought that because of how she looks and the music she sings... That she was black or biracial. So their assumptions based on those things were proven false. Their perception of that person is destroyed and they feel betrayed. Like she purposely misled them.

Her ethical background is pretty well known from when she was introduced to the world, people just didn't pay attention and assumed.
Bruno Mars is another one that received backlash because is isn't black but looks Black
Mariah Carey had the same backlash except she was biracial at least in blood anyway and people assume she was a purebred white girl trying to be black.
Although that was understandable as her mothers DNA is highly dominant right down to her features.
But it shouldn't matter, and if it does you should probably look in the mirror.

I remember Sandra Bernhardt doing a bit in her routine on HBO a long time ago about Mariah in front of an all white audience talking about "Mariah, stop effing with these black men with your white behind" even though it was already known by then that she's biracial. The audience all laughed and nodded in agreement. Never liked Sandra after that.

Can't stand that woman 😒
But to be honest I believe colour is only skin deep
And if you asked me even with knowing Mariah's ethnicity I would say she was white.
Just like I would say Bob Marley is Black

Mariah would be considered white in Brazil in the past. And, after people learned she was half, they would call her mulata.

After the last decade, some people lighter skinned than her now call themselves black (because there was a cultural push for that kind of stuff).

There was no one drop rule here, it was based on looks, but now Brazil started to copy the stupidest parts of the U.S. and now we have some phony caucasoids calling themselves black. It's such a shitshow. lol

This thread reminds me of Carlos Estevez, aka Charlie Sheen - all his life he marketed himself as white and I only knew he had latin origins many years later. (which is also stupid because the whole Hispanic notion that the U.S. has makes no sense, plenty of people in Spain and Portugal are just white people).

I remember some years ago when I went to renew my driver's license and the woman at the booth asked me to fill my race (self-identification) and I was like "damn, is this really needed? just look at me and fill it" (I'm as pale as gaf's light theme). lmao

I guess first question is Who?

Then go woke go broke

Wait
She’s NOT black?!
I always assumed she was

But all that aside, when reading the article. Did ya notice the person who posted it is (SLIT MY CLITT) “slittmyclitt”

Idiots who don't know what cultural appropriation is.

@SLoWMoTIoN

I guess I should have explained what CA is... It's taking something from a culture and saying you originated it. Like Elvis with Rock and Roll (he didn't explicitly say that he invented it but he never gave props to the originators of the songs and the actual genre started BEFORE him thanks to Chuck Berry and Little Richard).

These folks saying Rita is guilty of CA are uninformed. Taking a term and applying it to someone it doesn't fit. Rita is taking hair styles she likes that are LARGELY worn by black women. It isn't cultural appropriation because she never said she created those styles (Kim K can be accused of it though for other reasons).

Folks just upset because, though Rita kinda presents as a racially ambiguous black woman, she's never said she's black and folks just assumed she was. Not everyone knows she's albanian.

Who do you think I was calling out with my first post here? Blackfishing is the most retarded made up word/term I've read about this month.

Spukc

always chasing the next thrill
When a white dude has some fun with a black chick.. is that also considered blackfishing?
Or is that only when you try pushing your balls in it too?
Not my thing tbh but okay
