Uhh...was he REALLY posing as a customer? Like, did he carry around bags from all sorts of other stores in the mall, bump into a few people and whistle along with the Muzak? I'm just trying to figure out how you pose as a customer here, and it doesn't work for me.
He'll get caught if he tries to sell them before tomorrow, but Sony may be searching EBay auctions for awhile after that.

Merely selling one on eBay couldn't possibly pinpoint you as the thief. And since any auction started now wouldn't end until after launch, there's plenty of people with them preordered selling on ebay with the promise of shipping thursday/friday. On the other hand, some gamestop manager is gonna get fired over not having the PSPs locked up. There have been warnings every day for the last week not to leave them just sitting in the back room.

Something similar happened when i was working at Gamestop during the Dreamcast launch. We had so many units that we had to rent a space used by what used to be a Baby Gap. A couple of days after the launch, we were a dozen systems short (IIRC they came in a box with three boxes holding four each), as well as short on all the launch titles, and accessories. We all knew who it was, but no one could pin it on him.
Several months later, i'm playing Soul Calibur with a friend, and he talks about how the guy above hooked him up with some games. He tells me that the guy asked if he knew how to drive a stick, and he didn't but showed him how. He backed the guy's car into the rear exit of the area, and waited until the car was loaded.
In hindsight, i remembered being asked if i knew how to drive a stick, which i didn't. He probably knew i'd be a bad choice of an accomplice anyways since i would've have gone through with it.
