I couldn't even finish season 2 :(
Season 2 and the first 2/3 of season 3 are some of the worst shit out there. It did get much, much better in 4 and 5. Heck, everything was all well and good until the most recent episode...then the entire thing turned to shit.

Same here. I reluctantly made it through season 1 and made it about three eps into the 2nd.

I'd say my real theory on it, but I don't want to piss off 95% of this thread.

Just curious, why do you think that?

The only problem I had with last episode was the fact that they couldn't even give the Man in Black a fucking name. It felt incredibly contrived that they didn't let him have one.

Exactly what I did. Personally I think Lost is fucking awful.

If it's that Lost is all a dream in autistic Hurly's mind, I already beat you to that in the pool.

Because a narrative like LOST hinges on the answers. It can build up incredible suspense and mystery with some phenominal threads, but if those threads lead to absolute shit answers, then the entire thing becomes worthless. We're in the final three episodes of the season, where mysteries are wrapping up, where things are getting revealed, and in this past episode (looking past the shit writing and acting) the answers we were given essentially amount to "a wizard did it". There's a reason Tolkien's magical world is infinitely superior to Rowling's.

I'll be willing to agree if nothing makes more sense after the show ends. At this point I'm not judging the entire narrative based on the explanations given in one episode. It was disheartening though, and the first time I've been concerned about the show. I don't mind "It's magic", but I do mind not having a clearer explanation of exactly what the rules are and how they shape the story of our characters.

Exactly! If this were presented as a history being told by a character, I'd be totally fine with it, but the rules for the presesntation they used mean what was on the screen was 'truth' and was the real solution to that particular mystery...and it was a shit solution.

This is why I like shows from other countries. They, almost always, have a set beginning, middle and end. Shows that seems like the have a clear end, go on forever or until the show is no longer profitable. Lost, Prision Break and even How I Met Your Mother should have had a set number of episodes, and left it at that.

How I Met You Mother needs to die soon. The only reason I'm still able to watch it is because I leave it for Tuesday morning breakfast when my brain hasn't begun to turn on yet.

Umm... What would YOU call legal? :lol :lol :lol
17 is legal is Illinois. However, I'm never going to actually have sex with her (or any 17 year old) so I don't think waiting until she's 18 magically makes it ok to admit she's hot.

She will be 18 by the time I see her in person though, so I don't have to worry about any of your stigmas. :D

To be fair, Lost has
time travel, alternate timelines and a shapeshifting smoke monster
, some answers will inevitably amount to "God/a wizard did it."

I dunno; I think Venture Bros. does a real great job with its overall mythos and plot, but you can chalk that up to the creators properly planting the seeds for the stuff that they're doing now in the earlier seasons. It also helps that the writing staff are also continuity whores.

I will say that there's no way that they didn't plan for the conclusion of the ORB as a plot device to not be a massive troll. :lol :lol :lol

It's not that what we got wasn't believable, it's that we didn't get a lot of things I wish we did, as to the nature of Jacob's existence and how the rules are enforced, and by whom are they dictated. But like I said, I'll wait it out. There's enough time to fix Across The Sea with just a few dialogue exchanges.

Played some Judas Priest on vox and damn HMX really dropped the ball on this one. Breaking the Law is half empty, I have no idea why the fuck they removed the audience. Living After Midnight is inconsistent like shag said and the audience part was really low but it's not as bad. The Rage is fine but the drummer missed a beat, HMX are really slacking.

Other than the Rage I didn't feel satisfied so I played some Iron Maiden (Wasted Years and Powerslave) and it fucking felt good.

In before Ridley and Birdman.

I don't think you can really say that with two more episodes to go. There is still time in-between when
Jacob kills the MiB and Richard comes to the island
. I'm sure they will go back to that.

The problem is, MIB isn't in any more episodes.

:(

I only defended his voice. Picking versions of the songs where he lets the crowd do half the singing is so not kosher.

Agreed with this.

You know you would've shit on it regardless of what live version it was, Duck.

I'd probably spoiler tag that. Some people flip out about "cast spoilers".

That actor may not be in any more shows, but as we know
he can be anybody, really
. The next episode is set in
43 A.D
so that could mean something.

Wait, you sure about that? The next episode has our Losties in it...

I was in the room when my wife was watching that episode. SOOOOO BAD. Just horrendous writing and acting. I had to try really hard not to laugh really hard at some parts because she gets pissed at me for belittling the things that she likes but even she was laughing at it.

P.S. I love when people are speaking in a different language and they magically switch to English at some random point.

This week's episode pissed me off because they still didn't name MIB. It was so lame how his "mother" called referred to Jacob by his name, asked Claudia her name, but didn't ever call MIB by his.

Also, I like that we're getting answers, but I think some of the execution has been pretty bad
(whispers, Smokey's birth)
.

It wouldn't annoy me if it didn't feel like they were completely trying to avoid it at every corner.

I'm still waiting for my 4000 point card to ship. Speaking of which, I'll reserve 1600 points for Rated R remaster, HMX.

MIB's performance was enough to stop it being a totally bad episode. Love him on screen.

Him not having a name doesn't bother me.

It wouldn't have bothered me if they took the time to make sure they didn't have to get in a situation that necessitated him having a name, instead of having the kids birthed and only giving one a name. You can't tell me that wasn't contrived as hell.

Maybe there's a reason they aren't telling you is name You need to remember that he's still in the show, even though his original actor isn't.

There are better ways to hide a secret instead of just pretending it doesn't exist. It was a lame as hell ploy.

Not a snarky question: Why does it matter what his name is?

All I know about Lost I learned from reading this thread, so in my head I'm just equating him to the Cigarette Smoking Man.

The only way his name does matter is because it's slightly awkward when people don't refer to him by a name.

His name is The Man in Black, and that's fine for characterisation.

No I wouldn't have. Hell, even if a live song has vocals inferior to the studio version I'd still prefer it if the instrumentation is much better. See: Thin Lizzy's Jailbreak. Thing is, British Steel Live didn't have the instrumentation to save the vocals (or lack thereof).
