Let the bitch fighting begin! Neversoft are saying they think Rock Band cymbal are a copycat move, but Harmonix questioned the musical experience of Neversoft with their choice of a 2 cymbal drum kit.

http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=226636
That Harmonix guy needs to STFU. Yeah, they have more cymbals and pads than GH:WT, but they don't take them into account at all in the charts.
'Oh s***! There's cymbals! How can we put cymbals on our kit?' is goddamned right. Afterthought total.

while I think that the neversoft guy has a pt, and I don't think anyone should be that surprised that HMX added the cymbals at the last second, it does not affect the charts, and they don't even come with the game.

But I wish developers would shut the fuck up sometime and concentrate on their own games. I know Alex from Harmonix talked about how they feel the music on their charts or what not.. just shut the fuck up and worry about making a good game,

George Thorogood - Bad to the Bone
Dead Kennedys - Holiday in Cambodia (Master?!? Diminished a bit by already being in GH3)
Sublime - Santeria (wouldn't have said so before E3, but it looked like fun on GH:WT... boo overlap, however)
The Breeders - Cannonball (Belgand <3 Kim Deal)

So out of the twenty only four songs I really care about that much and of those only two of those aren't overlap. None of them are songs that I would ever have specifically requested either.

This is starting to feel like Re-Load or Use Your Allusion II (Just don't do Poe, I'm doing Poe). A bit of extra, unnecessary bloat. I mean, hey, free content I'm not going to bitch (much), but I'm definitely not getting excited about it.

It feels like saying "Hey babe, I drive a Camry."

"Technically it's leased, but I still have an option to buy."

free 20 songs, and most of them are not bad.. awesome sauce!!! When are they supposed to be available?

The list isn't even confirmed to be real :P For all we know someone just threw together a list of 20 songs.

Kind of suspicious that they said it was revealed at PAX (no sources supplied), when it doesn't even start until tomorrow. I remain highly skeptical.

That So What'cha Want video is kinda interesting. The "arena" (so to speak) looks really cool, but what is this:

He looks a couple of steps above Mii. Kinda shows just how much of Rock Band's look is generated by the awesome lighting.

They really didn't feel like an afterthought to me. It felt more like they wanted to maintain compatibility with RB so this was a compromise to make things work.

If anything GH:WT felt like they were trying for some mediocre one-upmanship by adding one more pad than RB (even if it just makes the target bar the same as all the other instruments) and then going with cymbals for two of the pads.

If this war is going to work out well we need to have both teams trying to make the best possible games, not engaging in petty sniping and minor upgrades to try and outdo the other. Frankly they both sound a bit middle schoolish in the article.

I'll remain skeptical as well so we might get better songs :D

Or they could be worse! EEK

Can't wait to download at least part of the rush album tonight though... can't decide if I get the entire thing

Actually, I'm pretty sure that Teasedale mentioned on SA that the drum trainer/freestyle does in fact recognize the cymbal expansions and actually does produce the correct sounds when they are attached. Probably not what you guys are looking for, but it is something.

Man, what's with the angry eyebrows? They look like consummate v's.

That's made by Ion, not Harmonix. Check out Ion's reputation for quality electronic drum sets.

is an afterthought when the game does not recognize them.. it does not change the charting any, and you have to pay extra for them.

How do they do it otherwise without screwing things up for people who want to continue using their RB1 drum kit?

For me the bigger problem, and what I guess I meant in saying it wasn't any afterthought, was that it didn't look like they just quickly patched it in to copy GH:WT.

Harmonix recommend it for their game. They've been using it at all press events. It comes with two cymbals. Come on dude, don't defend everything.

Largely the same way they accommodated left-handed drummers in RB1 without screwing right-handed drummers, only slightly more complicated to implement.

That's a spare music video set. Kinda like the one in "March of the Pigs."

It's pretty awesome looking. I like areas that actually look different. Rock Band may have 50 venues, but at first glance most all look the same.

Also, those new videos have confirmed that Rock Band 2 is completely the game Rock Band 1 should have been. It's going to be a blast just for solo play.

That list is probably real.

Remember a few weeks back when I said Harvey Danger told me Cream and Bastards Rise was one of the disc-candidates for RB2 and didn't make the cut?

That's listed on there. And the 20 was supposedly songs they wanted on the disc but didn't have time for.

And I love nearly every song on that list. So that's great. Good to see Santeria on there.

I have to when you quote someone working for Harmonix and then show the Ion set! They've been using it, but it doesn't mean they make it. They'll say "hey look at this cool drum set", but when the shit hits the fan Ion has to deal with problems with their kit.

CptUndies on SA already said they haven't announced anything at PAX. Maybe it's a leaked list or something, but for now some of it is likely fake.

But he's acting like no drum kits are released with two cymbals when ION have just released an electric drum kit with two cymbals...

Is Harmonix approved and recommended for RB2, if they are going to exclusively license to ION they should make sure that it works correctly.

Besides, the comment was about having 3 cymbals.. why would harmonix approve a 2 cymbal set if thats how they feel about it?

Orellio said:
Isn't there a 3rd cymbal for the Ion set that is extra?

But if real drum kits have 3 cymbals, why are you expending $300 on a real kit that only has 2 cymbals...? If its a real kit like Harmonix are advertising should it not have 3 cymbals.

PS: And this kinda stupid shit is why developers, of any game, need to keep their mouth shut.
