Is it me or is there some vaguely sexual subtext in some of the box copy?

Particularly the word "pulsating" and "always know who's on top."

So, that Rock Band 2 guitar I bought yesterday at Gamestop broke.

It started out really, really well. The auto-sync feature was AMAZING, and for the first time I really felt like the music, notes, and what I was doing all matched up.

I also liked the neck, the fret buttons are VASTLY improved, and I like the circle around the Start button. And, the Overdrive actually WORKS.

However, the strum bar is fucked up. I thought it was maybe a bit "off", because out-of-the-box it made a weird noise when you played it, like there were little pieces of rice shaking inside or something. Still, it worked well enough for most tracks, then I got to "Everlong". It started 'missing' strums, and by the time I was halfway through the song, it was registering maybe half of my strums.

I bailed out of that song and tried a few more (on Expert), and the strum bar would not register any kind of fast strumming. If notes had a decent amount of separation the thing was ok, but clearly it has issues.

So, it's going back to Gamestop today, though who knows if they will even have a replacement. I may have to take it up with EA, who I don't know is going to want to deal with me. I went through 3 RB1 guitars (one broken strum bar, 2 dead Overdrives), and two drum kits (dead pads).

The only thing I can figure is that they don't plan on many people regularly playing on Expert. It's not like the equipment is abused, my wife and I are the only ones who play it and we're in our 30s. This stuff isn't played at drunken frat parties or anything!

I'm disappointed, but what a tease that RB2 guitar was. If I can get one with a functional strum, it will be perfect. It's far better than the first guitar, or anything I've used from Red Octane.

BTW, totally random, but I can't get the Talking Heads' "Psycho Killer" out of my head. It's such a dumb song, but I love it. :lol

The first time I played the song on drums, I was very underwhelmed by both the drumming and the song itself. I played it a second time last night, and now I can't get it out of my head, either. :lol

Finally found the new guitar yesterday. As many have mentioned, it's vastly superior. It just feels right.

And as far as the auto calibration, it's pretty fantastic. Although I feel like my video lag is still a bit off. Audio is pretty consistent at 53-55. But video seems to fluctuate a bit more. Anyone have any tips for getting it spot on?

I don't know about that, but I would kill for some Skillet in RB or GH

Some of the complaints about the setlist I get, because not all the music is for everyone. But man the people that just constantly bitch and moan about "This sucks, I am never coming back and waiting for GH" are just getting fucking annoying. Now I am whining. It just seems that no one is ever happy unless they are complaining.

Are there songs on this that I despise? Yes there are. Are there songs that I love? Of course. Is it so bad that I must throw a tantrum online about how "I hate hippies" or "Your music sucks?" No. Just suck it up and either play the game or not. No one will be happy it seems.

I downloaded Charlene and I still cant 100% an expert song and this one is piss easy, i dont know whats wrong with me.

For some reason on drums I miss one of the first four bass kicks, but the rest of the song I nail. It is really pissing me off because that is a really easy song. I am right there with you...or right behind you(you will never be alone again).

No, because this time you'll get the shitty Brian Johnson version. Much different than the superior Bon Scott version. (Or was Donington before Johnson?)
Donington was in '92.

...I don't know. On one hand I'd likely buy most of the tracks, but on the other hand I'd be really pissed doing so because I know I'd be supporting HMX going with inferior tracks for the sake of marketability (Live at Donington, now in Rock Band!).

Though really, at this point they have no reason not to get Iron Maiden in the game when hmx could get their live tracks.

Good to hear. I'm getting my guitar in today and will try it out.

Hmmm, ok, I got curious....to be perfectly honest, Rock Band 2's set list didn't grab me as fast as the first one did. There were some major absences (KISS, Rolling Stones, etc) and RB's list had a lot of instant gratification tracks.
This is definitely true. I also think that RB1's combo of lots of popular/known songs combined with the insane amount of masters endeared it to a lot of people instantly. Now it's like "Masters? Big names? Pffbbtt... So what? Everyone has those!" But overall, I think if people put HONEST lists together like you and I did, they'll find, with hard numbers, that RB2 simply has a larger number of fun tracks in it than RB1. Maybe night a higher percentage, and it's annoying tracks might even be more annoying.. but I am really inclined to agree with IGN. This IS the best tracklist to date in a music game (Despite the crap/filler in there).

But as also stated in my previous post, even though I have always been less excited for GHWT, putting the numbers together it looks like it might beat RB2 by around 6-8 songs after you include crossovers.

It has just hit me that a Scissor Sisters pack would be awesome

I Don't Feel Like Dancin'
Take Your Mama
Filthy/Gorgeous

Guitar/Drums would be great in all 3 :)

I now want Scissor Sisters, Queen, ABBA and U2 Harmonix!!!

NO MORE METAL FOR FUCK SAKE!!

I want my U2 fix as well. I tried playing Sunday Bloody Sunday and The Fly on freestyle drums but it's not the same. :(

Well, my bass pedal finally bit the big one. After having already broken twice and being forced together with krazy glue, it finally decided that enough was enough, and refused to be put back together again. Now I need a budget replacement option. Any suggestions?

As much as I love AC/DC, I actually own the Live at Donington DVD already, I don't really know if I would buy much of their pack.

I drum pretty much exclusively in RB and most of their stuff is incredibly simple on the drums. Anyone who has played the yawn inducing Let Their Be Rock can attest to this.

Have you tried I Think I'm Paranoid? I got the achievement for guitar using that in RB1. In RB2, I did it with Pretend We're Dead, but I don't think that's much easier than Charlene.

Another positive is that Iron Maiden sounds great live. Just as good as the studio versions I think.

Talking Heads don't get nearly the credit they deserve. They really should get some DLC. (So should R.E.M., and and a few dozen other good bands that aren't metal or flavor-of-the-week pop, but anyway....)

_dementia: Log in at rockband.com, there's a Request Song button near the bottom.

What's The Frequency Kenneth?, while not the most complex song, would be SO FUN in this game.

I really wish the random setlists took into account what songs you've played in the last 10 mins. I needed a few stars to unlock the Merch Girl challenge and since I was on vocals picked my own setlist of 2 of Nine in the Afternoon and One Step Closer. It gives me the DW Challenge and since I'm not even playing drums I accepted the swap and it turned out to be Lump. I breeze through them no problems and figure I may as well get the mystery setlist out of the way and what do I get. Nine in the Afternoon and Lump. I could've handled one or the other, but both......so irritating.

I just want to know how to get 31k on the damn song. I had a perfect run with precision use of overdrive and still the best I could do is high 29k.

On the topic of the likely AC/DC pack.... I will buy some, but definitely not all... AC/DC is without question one of those bands that, after 30 years, you can only take so much of. The songs I am most interested in from the mentioned album are:

1. "Thunderstruck"
3. "Back in Black"
10. "Moneytalks"
14. "You Shook Me All Night Long"

About the only other song off the top of my head I would LOVE to have is Who Made Who.

and now to waste some time, some packs I would LOVELOVELOVE long time...

Dream Theater
Pull Me Under
Take the Time
Lie

Faith No More
Falling to Pieces
Midlife Crisis
RV

The Cult
She Sell's Sanctuary (fuck you GH: Aerosmith)
Firewoman
Edie (Ciao Baby)
(thank you GHWT for Love Removal Machine)

Journey
Don't Stop Believing (hey, look at Baba O'Reily)
Stone in Love
Into Your Arms (instrumental)

Def Leppard (proper thank you very much)
Photograph
Pour Some Sugar on Me
Animal

Iron Maiden Pack 01
Wasted Years
Can I Play With Madness
Flash of the Blade

Iron Maiden Pack 02
2 Minutes to Midnight
Fear of the Dark
Powerslave

.38 Special Pack (personal request)
Caught Up In You
Hold On Loosely
If I'd Been the One

Kenny Loggins (shut up, you know you'd buy it)
Danger Zone
I'm Alright
I'm Free

Classic Rock Pack
All Right Now (Free)
Born to Be Wild (Steppenwolf)
School's Out (Alice Cooper)

Rare Hair Pack
Down Boys (Warrant)
Smooth Up In Ya (Bullet Boys)
Don't Tell Me You Love Me (Night Ranger)

Big Hair Pack
Up All Night (Slaughter)
Wait (White Lion)
Yankee Rose (David Lee Roth/Steve Vai)

gotta go, more later.

I'm trying to figure out the path on bass to get 24k and gold. My highest is 21,600~.

Definitely need

GnR-Better (about 10x better than shacklers)
GnR-madagascar(same as above)
europe-final countdown

:)

When do those 20 songs become available? and what are they?

And at the same time Wolves, Lower could fall in Snow ((Hey Oh))'s ballpark.

how likely do you guys think it will be that guitar hero instruments will be friendly with rock band and that rock band instruments will be friendly with guitar hero?
I'll be rocking the PS3 versions.
My purchase of World Tour and the various instruments depends on this.

All instruments have been confirmed to be cross compatible, drums included. So grab whichever set of instruments you want, and they will work in both GHWT and RB2.

awesome. i was just searching around the internets and this does seem to be reliably true and confirmed by people at sony and at neversoft.
welp, sweet.
looks like i'll probably buy the entire bundle for guitar hero world tour then.

You guys know what would be awesome? If HMX announced a Muse 7-pack tomorrow.

New Born
Plug In Baby
Time Is Running Out
Stockholm Syndrome
Starlight
Supermassive Black Hole
Map of the Problematique

make it happen plz hmx

edit: ...

Don't know if it was posted, but the PS3 export key was up last night (could have been earlier). All paid for and ready for RB2 :D
It's been available since last thursday.

ugh. next month can't come soon enough. I'll be getting RB2 and GH:WT at about the same time it seems. I'm so stoked.
