I think I'm gonna buy some strings and picks this weekend and try to get back into playing the real guitar while I'm waiting for RB3.
I have thought of going back and trying to learn some more to prepare for the game.

Now I am also debating about the MIDI adapter. I said a few pages ago that our keyboard here does its MIDI out through USB, so it may not work properly when using a USB-MIDI cable to the converter box. I wish there was a way to know now so I can preorder the keyboard bundle instead. Of course, I might just get the keyboard controller anyways just for the size constraints. When there are six people in the living room playing Beatles it is crowded enough, but add in a full size keyboard and there will be no room to move. The lil keyboard might be the way to go just for size issues.

guys should I buy the realtar when I already own a Squier or stick to the halftar?

Sell the squier and buy the realtar, thats what I'd do, if you have a tight budget though, the half tar might be better.

Does that Keyboard include the game?

D:

Yes
for $50 more dollars,
yes it does.

I am going to be so fucking broke this year. I planned on getting my wife an iPad for Christmas, but with all these expensive peripherals I want for RB3, she will have to get something less nice. Like maybe a 3DS. Just as long as she gets me a 3DS as well.

Ronabo's actually sitting next to me watching this. Sigh.

Being able to disassemble the half-tar brings back terrible memories of my GH3 Les Paul. What a piece of shit that was.

Based on that image it looks like it locks in a lot better than the LP did.
It's impossible to tell. They don't show either of the connectors. If it's reliable, it's another point in the half-tar's favor over the real-tar, though.

Gh3 guitar just needs a little paper loving'.
Tried that, and a variety of rubber band mods, too. The only one that worked for more than a few songs was the closet/garbage can mod, but I've heard that hard-wiring works, too.

Thanks.

Btw, M3wthr33 said Lego RB and GD:RB have their own sorting categories in RB3 instead of being categorized as DLC, in case anyone cares.
Only if they have the little brick next to the songs. It was a nice touch in Lego.

I like this persistent career thing, and the challenges. Very exciting for my ilk.

I'm frustrated at how little of the interface they're showing though. I need my quickplay leaderboards, and I need to see how well they're implemented!

Also, love the title screen, love the menus. Minus the weird flip effect in the pause menu.

edit: shown in the video
What does the Beatles category look like?

It's their own stage and it's still not calibrated and the guitarist misses 33% of the notes.

I am officially in "fuuuuuuuuu" mode until they prove otherwise.
I'm not worried. They've never been able to use/play their own games, which is just sad.

And why did no one shoot any photos of the half-tar in profile? I need to know how thick the neck is.

So what I'm guessing
pulling out of my ass
is that the interface for the game only picks up finger position and strum/picking, not actual tone. This would address the whole tuning issue, meaning it will sound like ass through a amp for example on songs with alternate tunings but will still work correctly in the game.

I disagree. Look at the pickup in the picture I posted above. Unless Fender decided to suddenly give the Strat some new, unknown humbucker
they didn't
, that's what's commonly referred to as a 'hex pickup' ... which is used for MIDI.

I'm fairly confident that the guitar uses MIDI for tone validation, and the embedded-in-the-neck fret-sensing is separate, and used for visual cues only.

Have you seen this presentation? It's nosebleed inducing amounts of RB3 info.
Which was all released pre-E3 for those of us in this thread paying attention :( If there's any new info from the E3 show we really haven't seen it...

RB3's story mode sounds leagues better than GH's. At least it is somewhat grounded in reality instead of having pigs and wizards.

Interesting .... that leaves me hopeful.

It's been a while, but iirc, that headstock and decal layout is from the Standard Telecaster. Not a bad guitar to use as basis. I was concerned they'd use an HH, or worse ... an affinity :\

If 2112 is the finale I would wet my pants

I really don't think that would be fitting for a finale. Don't get me wrong, I'd give my left nut for it to be in RB3, but it really isn't difficult enough for that.

Hemispheres on the other hand ...

From Gizmodo about the halftar:

The guitar is dissassemblable, and the nylon strings can be replaced without replacing the entire guitar, if you somehow rock too hard and break one. Try not to rock too hard.

It has nothing to do with rocking too hard .... they're guitar strings ... they'll break.

Welcome to "journalism." I don't mean video-game journalism either, they all do nonsense like that :lol

:lol

It's bad enough that many video game 'journalists' really don't know shit about video games ... but when you cross the streams between video games and some other equally complex discipline (in this case music, obviously), the results can be mind-numbingly lol-worthy.

Sounds like a minimum-wage Best Buy employee trying to explain low-level TV tech to you (x 2) :p

wtf are you talking about? :lol
I think he's posting from his phone to say that 3DS is cool or something. I still have a hard time believing that Nintendo can do anything right.

sorry, wasn't aware this thread was used as a random blog :p

just figured there might be a more appropriate thread for such a post ;)
The Rock Band thread is kind of it's own little world. I wonder if it might be good to have a brand new thread for when RB3 hits. At the same time, I want this thread to keep growing. Is it already past the record for largest gaf thread ever?
