Just got my US copy!
WHICH IS 2 DISCS IN 1
AND HAS A REVERSIBLE COVER

How am I supposed to sell off the Wii U ver. now lol.

Ah now worries I can always just grab a Wii box, slap the Wii game and cover on.
Then replace th box for th Wii U ver. with anoter game, print the cover, slap it on the U box and boom pre-owned copy~

Hah that's way too much work for that travesty of a game. I fell in the camp that thought "no way the Wii U version could be that bad" but nope, it really is. I just took out the extra DVD holder that was in the case, put the Wii U version in there, took the manual out and traded that off to Gamestop. Got about 24 bucks for it. I think Gamestop overpaid me XD

Has this box ever been checked?

Obviously not because you cannot play Wii U games on a Wii, thus it will never be checked. It exists for those people who don't understand that a Wii U is something different than a Wii. They have had those since the GBA or maybe even GBC days.

Yea, US games don't have it.

Our GCN, Wii and DS (and DSi-exclusive) games didn't have it either, probably due to their formats being inherently incompatible with the previous hardware along with the names not being related in any way. While all hardware evolutions sticking with existing brands (Game Boy, Wii, *DS) feature these compatibility tables on the back of the case, starting all the way back in the Game Boy Color days.

interesting. didn't know it went that far back, but it makes sense that it would be a sort of clarification that started in an even older time. i guess if wii was called gamecube 2 there would have been a similar check system on the back.

Maybe with the disc sizes they felt it was obvious, too. Then again you can't see the discs from outside. :)

I just got my 3DS copy from Amazon. They had it for $20! Can not wait to jump into it this weekend. Still debating on the Wii U one even though I only got a Wii......

What are you debating about? You're gonna want that Wii version over the Wii U one (which you could easily just sell off) anyway

the Wii U version comes with a second disc, which is the superior Wii version. buy now!

I'm definitely going to play through both games. What's the best order?

Does the Wii U version have additional dialogue over the Wii version or vice-versa?

Does the Wii Version include the Japanese audio track?

Which game is it faster to finish and which game is it easier to get 100% in?

Thanks for any help.

Reading the OP would have answered 2 out of the 3 questions. The third I don't know.

I did read it.

It wasn't specified that both versions had dual language. Just the that the "game" did.

Also even with the same story, setting and characters additional dialogue could be present.

each level of the 3ds/wii u version takes longer to complete versus the wii u counterpart. i think that will make them longer to 100% on their own. that said, there's more 'stuff' to do and s-rank in the 3ds/wii u version, but obtaining it is a lot easier. the wii game is a pretty good challenge as far as getting to the end of each level quickly.

Thanks for the OT! I did not realize this about the Wii version. I saw this game at Best Buy was holding off on buying it after reading a few reviews of the Wii U version. I would love to pick this up just for the Wii version.

Just got my copy today! Can't wait to take it for a spin. I feel an odd aura emanating from this game. It seems special like getting a new GBA game in my youth. Have to pick up my Wii from my brothers house though... :<

Just play the Wii version first, honestly. It's the original and envisioned version. If you start with Wii U you might come to dislike it.

So four levels in and I'm actually enjoying the Wii U version?

I played about 5 minutes of the Wii version just to make sure it had a Japanese language track. Liked the motion controls.

As for the Wii U very I began after the first level hating it with a passion because of the controls. During the second chapter something clicked and I'm finding it perfectly fine to control. It's still not optimal and there are a few moments when the camera goes to hell but I can easily move around and the auto lock-on helps a lot. It's actually sometimes fun to play. Just to lock on and boost. It's just that things can get fucked up real easy. Excited for the Wii version.

I'm actually finding a lot of medals and other bonuses by going to out of the way areas. Do the green doors hold anything unique or are they just bonus parts? The first one I went in a straight line to an exit and the second I actually hit an island and fought a little.

The extras are the annoying thing though. Often there in weird places and while the flight controls are all right for the main path they bad for going to these extra areas and it just takes too long even with boost.

Also it's annoying that about 3/4 thirds of the extra areas around islands like lower platforms or those mountains with a ring in the top don't have anything. It makes it annoying when there's no telling whether the area you're going to spend time getting to actually has medals.

I'm really digging the story and look of the game. It's the type of unique Wii game that I love. In the same class as Zack & Wiki and Opoona.

The Wii U version is where someone took the arcade Wii game and tried to adapt to a more adventure game format. It's fascinating from a gameplay prospective. The gameplay of Rodea was not built for this exploring around for collectibles. Likewise the upgrade system feels superfluous and is a weird way of handling the powerups in the original Wii game.

I really hope more people learn about this game. This really feels like a Yugi Naka game. It's basically if you put Nights in Sonic Adventure. The level design of the latter with the ability to fly. It's such a unique and fun concept. Has a good chance of being in my top 5 of the year.

I played the Wii U version up to the titan boss (Chapter 5? 6?), died to it a couple times, went "Haha, nope" and never looked back.

Probably doesn't help that I'd finished the Wii version by that point.

Wait, is this really guaranteed to come with the WII version, or are you speculating? :/ Because...if it's the latter...I'd rather not be stuck with the Wii U version only...especially since I would trade that one in....
Gamefly ships their used games with their original packaging. I bought Arkham Knight a month ago for $20 and got 3 unused preorder slips inside with it. Granted, I've never bought a game from them with a release quite like Rodea's

I'm mostly speculating but I've never gotten a GameFly used game that wasn't incomplete. If you get it and there's no Wii disc, you can always return it free of charge.

Okay, I can finally confirm that YES, if you order Rodea: The Sky Soldier from GameFly that it WILL come in complete. I got in my copy today. It has both discs, both manuals, and the original case with its reversible cover:

The discs are VERY clean, as if they were never used before. So, now that you all have proof (and I apologize for the upside-down photo) that it is complete, go and buy this game from GameFly for $30!

Ok. Done! I'll be trading in the Wii U version to GS. Is that terrible of me? Thanks for the great looking out guys!!

I can't wait to get my copy. GameFly used games are great since they eliminate the one problem I usually have buying games that aren't new: damaged cases.

Used prices+ (basically) new cases=Happy gamer.

Question. I got this and another game from them and checked out using Pay Pal. It still has not shown on my Pay Pal or bank statement that the payment went through. This is 9 hours age. Does it normally take this long? I have never bought from them before.

Heads up.

In the Wii U/3DS version when you get the ability after Chapter 5 to unlock the Ticket Islands with medals only go up to like number 4.

You go to the islands and have several individual battles to get materials. There's a checkpoint after each island but you have to finish all the ones you unlock at one time. The later ticket islands have higher level enemies. I used all my llives without beating these tricky enemies.

Same. Playing it today and it's been a blast. Reminds me of classic SEGA from the Dreamcast era. Makes me all nostalgic whilst playing it. Enjoying it much more considering how much people were hating on the Wii U version, makes me wonder just how good the Wii version is (which I'll be playing after I'm done with the Wii U version).

Also enjoying the music too, sounds like a 2000s era SEGA Sound Team soundtrack (which makes sense considering the composer is a former member of that unit and all). Just good vibes all over regarding this game. It'll become one of those "hidden gems" in years gone by, I think.

I'm about 6 chapters into the Wii version (just beaten the titan boss) and my opinions are rather mixed so far. It's a fun game, but the controls do have a learning curve and I really don't like how when you're low on health you can't attack and can only fly in short bursts. It definitely feels like a Naka game for better or worse. Although when I first saw the green plains in the first world and when the music started playing, it made me feel super nostalgic.

Not touched the Wii U version yet on account of not many people liking it much

Unless you're buying used from ebay or digitally, I think every brand-new copy of Rodea the Sky Soldier right now for the Wii U comes with the Wii version.

The only other scenario in which the Wii U version does not come with the Wii version is if the game enters its second printing, which mostly depends on how popular the game is, I guess.

Great game but...

I'm stuck at the final boss (wii ver)!!

It's driving me nuts~ :(
Not sure what part you're having trouble with, but for the first the camera is actually automatically locked on the boss. Change to free camera (can't remember which button, but you should know it by now) and it becomes super easy.

I'm done...after 15+ attempts, I'm done with this game. I've enjoyed every second of it but this final boss is too tedious

- too many short (unskippable) cutscenes
- weak points far and wide from one another, prompting so much travel time
- too many weakpoints during the tentacle phases. Should've been 3-5-7 instead of what we have

Individually, those points are not so bad but it all adds up eventually and becomes a long, tedious slog that eroded the sponge in my wrist.

tl;dr - again, I would still highly recommend this game. Flashes of SEGA golden-age brilliance here and there which put a smile on my face the entire playthrough.

Probably the minus button. Got to the true final phase (asteroids) but I died then and it's the long road getting there again that's just making me give up.

So I beat the Wii U version a few days ago.

Really enjoyed it. I got most of the medals in the game so I unlocked pretty much everything. Those two extra songs you can unlock with vocals are really nice.

What's really interesting is that after beating the game you can unlock an option for extra dialogue throughout the game. I wonder if that's present in the Wii version?

Also the final boss fight is much easier (yet still at least the second most different) as you can upgrade your life bar and more importantly there are three checkpoints for different phases.

I put the game down for now but will probably eventually go through every level to see the added dialogue, get the last few medals and then do the Wii version. May switch languages to Japanese.

I'm interested if the medal locations are the same between versions. The Wii version doesn't have the radar feature which made finding the medals much easier in the Wii U version. There were still some hidden behind enemy encounters or located underneath islands. The ones hidden under other objects that show up on the radar were especially devious.

Got my Wii U/Wii copy from the GameFly sale. Also just started the 3DS ver. controls are kinda....not good. Any tips?

Use the Y button to float upward into the air to aim your next attack. When you radar shows attacks about to hit press Y and a direction to dodge. If you spam this you'll basically avoid any attack.

Press B to Dash towards targets quicker but be sure to land and then press y quickly.

Wait to get the gun power up in a few levels and you can just sit back and kill enemies from afar without worrying about losing energy.

Finally upgrade your abilities.

The final ability you get late in the game is really effective at killing enemies with little actual skill from you.

I played both the Wii and Wii U version up to chapter 2 about a week ago, just to try it out and to compare both versions. I really disliked the controls of the Wii U version and the game looks a little dull graphically. However I could see the Wii game had some potential and personally I think this version looks a lot better, but I was still having a few issues with the controls, so I put it down and finished Until Dawn.

Last night I picked the game back up again and have played through and killed the first boss and this game has really clicked with me, I had a lot of fun. The controls now feel natural and I was linking jumps and attacks easily and the sense of speed is really cool. I mentioned this in another thread, but I really do not understand why they didn't just give the option for pointer controls in the Wii U version, as it would have made that game a hell of a lot more enjoyable and it would have probably been received a lot better critically, generating a little bit more buzz.

I know the game is flawed, but I am so glad I picked it up and if anyone is on the fence, get it while the Wii version is still included as it really is the best version.

So, I finally got around to playing the 3DS version. I had to clean the fridge a bit to get it to fit (~11,000 blocks) and I have to say, it's not too bad at all. I had an issue with the controls feeling a bit cramped, going from the Wii U version, but I'm actually really enjoying it. Frame rate is a pretty steady 30 on n3DS and it retains it's long lost Dreamcast game vibe.

Probably not worth the $40 I paid, but a good pick up for around $20 to have it portably.

The final boss of this game is fucking horrendous. Who the fuck designed this fight!? Just when
you clear all the vents, you go off into this terrible asteroid section where it is difficult to tell where he is going to shoot and most of the time there aren't any asteroids to link up to to move.

EDIT - Finally beat the final boss. Good god what were they thinking!?

Also the game froze after the credits.

Hi guys, I'm interested in this game especially the Wii version since I heard that's the version to play but I just wanted to know how easy it is to still get. Didn't have time to get it at launch so couldn't grab it at launch and only the first print copies have it. So my question is the first print games still available and does the box mentioned including a Wii version? All the online places I looked at like Amazon and Best Buy definitely have it but I'm not sure if it does include the Wii game. Thanks in advance for anyone who can answer this question.
