Rosalina AND LUMA Confirmed For Smash Bros!

I want every Smash Bros. trailer to be a fakeout now. My emotions were going wild.

"Kirby in Mario Kart? But why are they focusing on Rosalina? Wait, that's Donkey Kong's Smash Bros. model--!"

at this point i assume you facepalmed as you held back laughter. seriously, what is up with DK's model in these cinematics? he looks fine in-game.

For newcomers, it looks like every trailer will be, and I love it:

  • The initial reveal had some folks thinking it was Animal Crossing (assuming they missed the imagery of the introduction transition)
  • The Wii Fit Trainer introduction had everyone thinking it was for Wii Fit U
  • Well, you saw the Rosalina trailer.

The Rosalina trailer had my mind especially all over the place. I went from thinking it was a new Galaxy game to thinking it was a new Kirby Air Ride, to thinking that Kirby was being brought into Mario Kart, and in fact it only clicked that it was a Smash trailer the instant after the "Launch into Battle!" title card disappeared.

Can you tell the difference?

They do look pretty similar.

The average smash fan is probably just going to refer to her as the blue peach or blue princess.

Nah, I think you're underestimating the power of Smash and popularizing characters. This is the game that made Captain Falcon one of the most famous video game characters ever
despite F-Zero not existing anymore.

Same goes for Ness and Lucas.

There was an odd moment where I thought Kirby was going to be playable in Mario Kart riding on a luma instead of a warp star because they're both stars so somehow this pans out, I'm not so sure my mind was all over the place as it had just gone walkabouts.

Anyway, while i'm pretty indifferent to the character I do think Rosalina looks interesting to play as, I'm all for a character who reps the best Mario games, some of those more SMG inspired moves were neat.
Still waiting on a newcomer that gets me properly hyped though.

Ok I get what you are saying about the similarity in body types but smash fans are gonna call her Rosalina cause that's what it's gonna say on her selection tile. Let's not get carried away

Daisy was murdered, and they still haven't found the body.

If people know who Lucas and Marth are based on the Smash announcer yelling their names whenever they're selected, I think Rosalina will be ok.

Great image. Really gets the point across.

The dress being different should be enough for people to tell the characters apart. I just personally think that there should be more than superficial differences like clothing in a good character design. If one character can dress up like another character and pass off as that character, the design isn't unique enough.

Two unrelated people wearing the exact same outfit will still look more different than two identical twins wearing different shirts.

You could do the same exact things with Jigglypuff and Kirby or Ness and Lucas.

Plus similar character design still doesn't change the fact that Rosalina already has a good base for a move set that could be different from other characters.

Uh... apart from the hair and crown, Rosalina's dress silhouette and color are vastly different from Peach.

And why are we arguing their similarities when we've always had these two?

We've also had these two.

The differences between Rosalina and Peach are far more vast than these two.

Ness and Lucas deserve the same criticism. I don't think they should both be in the game.

Jigglypuff and Kirby are from different series so they get a pass. They could have chosen a different Pokemon, but I get the feeling they chose Jigglypuff specifically because she was so similar to Kirby, so they could re-tool his existing animations and save some time.

Rosalina looks fun to play. I'm glad she's a new character, I just feel like her design could be more interesting.

They're female characters though. You can't go around making one taller/shorter/fatter/skinnier like they did with the Mario, Luigi Wario and the like. Because... I don't know, it's unorthodox!

I think there are more differences with Mario/Luigi and Ness/Lucas than Peach/Rosalina. At least, in terms of aesthetics - red/green and blonde/black hair are more striking contrasts than pale pink/pale blue and... uh, blonde and platinum blonde.

But you know what? Whatever.

Rosalina & Luma look EXCELLENT. The gameplay here is vastly different from Peach, something that can't be said for any other pair of lookalikes outside of maybe Kirby and Jigglypuff. And the gameplay is key. The "puppet-based" fighting style looks like a lot of fun in the context of Smash. Sakurai has delivered again!

Also, Rosalina & Luma certainly deserve a turn after Rosalina's playable role in 3D World and numerous spin-offs, and after her important role in the Galaxy games. It's good to see Nintendo elevating some of their secondary characters.

And I'm really happy for the Rosalina fans. I've never been one of them, but I love it when people get excited, and so it's great to see the Mario fandom rejoicing. :)

What if the trailers are the intros for the adventure modes matches? I think the SSE is gone - too much work and too much critique has come from it.

But maybe these are set stages? To get Rosalina you have to beat her with Kirby on the MK stage after the 'new challenger' promt? Something like that...

I love the announcement of Rosalina but the bigger deal for me was the music. Had to watch it twice cause the first time all I noticed was the amazing music!
