Rosalina AND LUMA Confirmed For Smash Bros!

I honestly still don't see you making a point here. Nintendo could come up with a moveset for any of their characters no matter who they are. The difference here is that they're adding a boring character just for the sake of representing the Galaxy games.

If movesets were all that matters, then all characters should be nothing but visible bounding boxes that play differently. Video games are more than that, and Rosalina is just a boring character.

Mario and Peach are more boring characters than Rosalina.

For those fighting about Daisy VS Rosie, consider this: Daisy has not been confirmed to not be in the game. She could have a song, or a new trophy, or a stage, or playability, or a kick-ass assist trophy.

Besides look closely; the two seem to bee good enough friends to share motorcycles. There is really nothing that was confirmed against daisy with this reveal.

WaiT is there a Mario Galaxy stage that's spherical?

please nintendo

please

It has curvature and gravity. It's gonna be awesome.

so are we entirely ignoring the fact that she has a unique fighting style? i mean, what the hell are you gonna do with Waluigi or Daisy? Waluigi showed up as an assist trophy waving around a tennis racket because that's the only reason he exists.

Really, this line of reasoning? Many smash characters didnt have a "unique fighting style" until Nintendo thought one up.

Mario and Peach are more boring characters than Rosalina.

All the major mario characters are boring, lets not dance around it. Only Luigi and Wario have any sort of developed personality and even then its paper thin.

Making Rosalina into a doll controlling character with Luma is pretty genius. It does seem to be as freeform as something like Carl in BlazBlue but it seems different enough from an Ice Climber AI partner.

i'm not necessarily saying they can't come up with some kind of fighting style for Daisy or Waluigi. i'm saying it probably wouldn't be half as interesting as what they've done with Rosalina.

ooh man.

Mario and Luigi are way more similar than Peach and Rosalina will ever be, especially in the SSB games. so, blond hair + a crown = clone?

this reasoning is as bad as saying Jigglypuff shouldn't be a proper character because she looks a lot like Kirby and can't be picked apart from the silhouettes, while ignoring the fact they posses completely different movesets.

Mario and Luigi have completely different body shapes. I think they're easier to tell apart than Rosalina and Peach, who are the exact same base model with different dresses. Oh, and Rosalina's blonde hair is a slightly different shade of yellow.

Imagine you made a basic nude barbie doll body of Mario. Could you change the clothes on that doll and make it Luigi? No, you couldn't. Now imagine a barbie doll body of Peach. The conversion to Rosalina is simple. New dress, new wig.

If Rosalina were shorter, that would work. She's sort of a magic fairy or something anyway so it would have even made sense!

My problem with Rosalina is that her design is way too similar to Peach. The only major difference is the color of her dress, which barely counts when smash has alt color schemes anyway.

With Mario and Luigi they made Luigi taller and thinner in addition to his color scheme. That's how you create unique characters. They need unique silhouettes. Rosalina is very difficult to tell apart from Peach, probably because female characters all need to have the exact same body type. Only male characters are allowed variation. At the very least, they should have given her a different hair color....

This is kinda funny considering there was a thread made that identified Rosalina as a playable character in 3D World from a partial silhouette of a sticker, before she was offfically revealed. Granted there were other clues that made the theory stronger, but Rosalina can be easily distinguished from Peach. I don't think you will find people confusing Link, Ike, and Marth because they are humanoid sword fighters, so there shouldn't be any trouble distinguishing Peach, Zelda, and Rosalina because they wear dresses.

Clothing is part of a character's design so it seems a bit unfair to remove it from the equation regarding identifying character silhouettes. Furthermore, to my eyes, Rosalina has always looked taller and more slender than Peach. I agree that they could be more distinct but I don't see how they are any less distinct than the Mario Brothers and I don't think they are that hard to tell apart.

Well there are enough minor differences that hardcore fans will obviously be able to tell the difference. I also remember when Mario Galaxy was first revealed everyone thought Rosalina was just Peach with a new haircut. Anecdotes!

Honestly, I feel the same way about Ike and Marth. Their designs are incredibly boring. I hate those characters purely because of how visually boring I find them.

Actually, I like Rosalina's design, and she looks like she plays well. I'm glad she's a new Smash character. I just wish she were a LITTLE more visually distinct from Peach.

Also, I'm crossing my fingers for Palutena.... Now there's a visually distinct anime princess.

Well, space princess peach is not as boring as the the blank faced instruction manual character WiiFit Trainer, so she has that going for her.

Now that they have a certain demographic of fans covered it would be great if they reveal some new characters that long time Nintendo fans would appreciate. Knowing Nintendo though it's probably going to be baby versions of their characters.

It's like you keep switching on and off from making some kind of statement you're too lazy to actually bring up or are just making a terrible argument for gameplay implications that's barely there. What's the relevance of anything other than their outward appearance?

You said it yourself, Mario and Luigi are basically actually the same, just slightly skewed in proportions. They're literally wearing the same thing in different colours, and as you pointed out, colours are irrelevant apparently.

That's not a fair comparison because they're from different games with different art styles. It's like comparing Charlie Brown to Captain Planet.

Instead, look at Peach, Daisy, and Rosalina. They all have the same barbie-doll body with slight variations (Dress color, hair color, eyes).

"Instead, look at my cherry picking."

I still think you're wrong.

First post in this thread. I was too busy staring aghast at all y'all's insanity.

Hey, remember how Rosalina rebooted the galaxy in SMG1? Looks like her flip-kick births another galaxy -- look at what's coming out of her dress:

I am making no statements about gameplay. I think Rosalina looks incredibly fun and unique to play! You're right, I'm just talking about their outward appearances. :)

Color is not irrelevant, it just shouldn't be the only difference between characters. Mario and Luigi are more than color swaps. Peach and Rosalina are too, but just barely. Mario and Luigi are still more distinct from each other than Peach and Rosalina and Daisy.

Now those are some unique character designs! Too bad none of them are in Smash :(

The point is that all of the Mario princesses have the exact same body. Like, they might even copy/paste the base model. Compare that to Mario and Luigi, or Wario, or Waluigi. They basically managed to clone Mario 4 times and still make the characters more visually distinct than the two Princess Peach clones.

I think it might just be an issue with anime style characters in general, though. There's a tendency for anime characters to have identical bodies with slightly different hair. This actually applies to male characters too, like Ike and Marth. Obviously there are exceptions to everything, but that doesn't change the fact that Rosalina is Peach is Daisy with a different dress and wig.

The shape of Peach and Rosalina's dresses and hair are completely different. You can easily tell them apart from silhouettes. You're reaching pretty hard.

Peach and Rosie looking a little like each other makes perfect sense; if you played SMG, you can deduce that Rosie is Peach's great great great great great great great great great grand aunt. Peach and Daisy however look nothing a like; different facial shape, different body shape, and even different height.

For some reason I've never liked Rosalina. I don't dislike her, she's just meh to me, I guess. I hope she's popular so I can spank her with Peach online >:)

Isn't her recovery move the Star ring thingie?

Farting galaxies seems to be no problem for her.

unfortunate picture for our italian plumber, mario appears to have been caught trying to look up her dress =P

(which apparently houses a milky way galaxy if the shots are to be believed)

I play fighting games, and I just don't care. Slow reveals before I buy my product get me hype to buy it. I don't mind knowing before hand , hell i hope its like modern fighting game and the whole cast is just unlocked from the get go.
Really dont care what games you play, I play fighting games too boo hoo. For the sake of other people having some sort of audacity to complain is the issue here kind of pointless.

I didn't even know that there was such a substantial hatedom for Rosalina. She's the mascot of the two biggest and most critically acclaimed Mario games of the past four years or so. So... she's kind of a big deal. A hell of a lot more people would find her more immediately recognizable than Daisy at least, who is probably too busy with her wrestling career to fuss with Smash anyways.

But she looks amazing in Smash, I really, really like how her playstyle looks with Luma, looks insanely fun to set-up moves with Luma. Really excited to see more of her play-style, definitely unconventional by the standards of the franchise. I wouldn't say it resembles the Ice Climbers more than the superficial aspects in any case.

Can you tell the difference?

She's either going to be the most ineffective fighter, or the most beatsly mofo ever to hit Smash Bros, mark my words.

On another note, With a complicated 2 model character like Rosalina confirmed that means that the 3DS can most likely handle 4 of her in a screen at once without slowdown. I know of some people who are afraid that Ice Climbers will be cut because of the 3DS's hardware limitations.

She's getting tons of attention now. Just playing her in 3d world, and now is going to appear in both smash and Mario Kart? Can't wait to see her in the next Mario Party game.

I will never understand how people can get so crazy over Smash Bros characters.

The thing that got me was in the sidebar chat during the Nintendo Direct... so many posts of people going bonkers over this, stuff like X1 AND PS4 DEAD!!!, NINTENDO WINS!! and it all came off serious, not tongue-in-cheek. Gotta admit the star looks cute as hell.

I'm just glad Nintendo added a character that was introduced from their best game (imo) in the past decade. She also looks like a unique character to play as. I would have never thought her play style would be that interesting if she got in, but the Luma is a nice touch. Also more female representation is a good thing, I see nothing wrong with this at ALL.
