Rosalina AND LUMA Confirmed For Smash Bros!

I'm fine with her in I guess, probably wasn't the best choice to show as a newcomer at this moment though. The only people who truly care that she got in probably already have a Wii U. She will just fade into the news as usual.

Kirby and that Luma... d'awww :3

I hope the video was hinting at a Rainbow Road stage.

I'm loving all the salt from people who only care about "deserving" characters. Rosalina looks fun to play and that's all that should matter at the end of the day.

Here's hoping, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was a backdrop for the Galaxy stage either.

Personally, I don't have anything against Rosalina, but this screams of pandering. Nintendo knows that the creepy Deviantartists will buy the Wii U in droves just to play as her. Just read some of the posts in this thread to get a better understanding. How the hell is she more deserving than the likes of Ridley, Little Mac, and King K. Rool?

She was in two games that were better and more popular than anything those characters have been in?

She Shadow the Hedgehog'ed.

( she came in and is more popular than everyone you like)

Why should the reason people buy things bother you?

My problem with Rosalina is that her design is way too similar to Peach. The only major difference is the color of her dress, which barely counts when smash has alt color schemes anyway.

With Mario and Luigi they made Luigi taller and thinner in addition to his color scheme. That's how you create unique characters. They need unique silhouettes. Rosalina is very difficult to tell apart from Peach, probably because female characters all need to have the exact same body type. Only male characters are allowed variation. At the very least, they should have given her a different hair color....

.....because they managed to come up with a very unique moveset for her that justifies her inclusion. if she was just a Peach clone you'd have a point, but you're reducing this to simply complaining about characters while disregarding all other factors. if we're talking about side characters in games, i fail to see how any one is more "deserving" than another; the play styles that can be given should take precedence, not "OH THIS ONE SHOULD BE IN IT MORE." this isn't going with Rosalina over Bowser or Peach or even Luigi. it's Daisy.

I honestly still don't see you making a point here. Nintendo could come up with a moveset for any of their characters no matter who they are. The difference here is that they're adding a boring character just for the sake of representing the Galaxy games.

If movesets were all that matters, then all characters should be nothing but visible bounding boxes that play differently. Video games are more than that, and Rosalina is just a boring character.

Its the handheld version of a game with a console version.

Draw your own conclusions.

But IIRC they 3ds game with have a different focus, so it might just be difference.

they probably want people to buy the Wii U version and hope they forget there's a 3DS version.

If given the option, I would assume that Nintendo would use the better looking HD footage to show off their game.

Installbase wise, the 3DS is likely to sell a lot more.

Fuck it. Was a release timeframe given?

I completely understand that Smash isn't JUST a marketing tool.
But the way I see the argument is basically this, Nintendo either:
a. Puts in a character featured in the last 3 mainline Mario games including a PLAYABLE role in a recent game in need of promoting.
b. Puts in a character featured in nothing but spin-offs.

Exactly. Put like this, it's the very definition of a no-brainer. (Although Daisy was in Super Mario Land, so not JUST spin-offs)
She's also pretty visually distinct. Daisy's looks more like Peach with a very unpleasant looking yellow colour scheme.

The problem here is that's completely subjective, and not much help.

Too true, if you made these silhouettes, I don't think I could tell them apart myself.

Subjective, she is probably more popular than everyone you like. So that would be justification for her not being boring to them, and justification for her conclusion.

Like legitimately. Dat ShadowItis.

not sure where you're getting the assumption that they can just pull movesets out of thin air no matter what. just because they've managed to do it for some odd characters doesn't mean they can do it for everyone. in fact, the presence of clones directly contradicts this.

Rosalina is nothing like a clone of Peach.

-Her silhouette is different, as her dress has an entirely different shape, her hairstyle is radically different, she is considerably larger and she carries a wand
-She does not walk, she floats above the ground like Mewtwo, because she is a space princess
-She has a baby Luma helper, which also clearly differentiates her from peach

That's not a fair comparison because they're from different games with different art styles. It's like comparing Charlie Brown to Captain Planet.

Instead, look at Peach, Daisy, and Rosalina. They all have the same barbie-doll body with slight variations (Dress color, hair color, eyes).

She's more interesting than Daisy, who's nothing but a glorified Peach clone.

The only thing she could add to smash is... sports equipment? Sweet.

Rosalina is essentially a Goddess who can float, create force fields, grow and shrink in size and controls a group of chubby star people to do her bidding.

Daisy is a tomboyish Peach clone who plays sports with the Mario crew sometimes.

There's one boring character there, and it's not the Goddess with powers.

You can't count Mario and Luigi's difference and then disregard Peach and Rosalina's. Hell, the delta between them is more extreme just because of their hair alone. That, and in action Rosalina would obviously just have luma constantly flying around her.

ooh man.

Mario and Luigi are way more similar than Peach and Rosalina will ever be, especially in the SSB games. so, blond hair + a crown = clone?

this reasoning is as bad as saying Jigglypuff shouldn't be a proper character because she looks a lot like Kirby and can't be picked apart from the silhouettes, while ignoring the fact they posses completely different movesets.

Jesus when I said that Rosalina would eventually become the new Peach I was kidding. A future of our rightful queen taking over seems more and more likely.
then again even Pauline has a chance over Daisy.
