American society is falling down.
Hollywood isn't America.
Though one could argue it is a matter of life imitating "art".
Fuck fucking "Fuck Hollywood" - raze it to the ground, and salt the earth so that nothing foul might spawn there ever again.
American society is falling down.
Everyone was aware at the time of that picture. Harvey Weinstein himself has infamously called for his release. Predators feel for other predators, I suppose. You should probably read this to see how many other actors/directors you respect have come to the vigorous defense of this piece of shit. Be under no illusions about this: Hollywood is garbage - for every Keanu Reeves there are ten Donald Trumps and Harvey Weinsteins.
I was wrong about the details. Eduin has it right. He fled before sentencing.Good lord. And France couldn't just send him back?
This reminds me of a thread here, I think it was early this year or last year and it was about a Hollywood actor, was a big child actor and he had horrible things to say about pedophilia in Hollywood.
Good lord, that is crazy. Beyond sickening to think you would continue to support someone like that. I'm assuming Keanu Reeves is considered to be a real good dude here?

France doesnt have an extradition agreement with the US.
Okay, unwanted groping is really bad, but she wasn't "a kid".
A 21-year-old kid?
Yes. At least personally, Reeves is the first thing that comes to mind when I think of a decent person in Hollywood.
But how about these guys?
Martin Scorsese
Darren Aronofsky
Wes Anderson
David Lynch
Woody Allen
Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu
All (and others) signed a fucking petition to have Polanski released.
I knew about Woody Allen that he did some real horrible stuff too. Didn't he abuse someone? But man, something is wrong with you when you know the person you want released raped a 13 year old girl. I can't even imagine what goes around in their head. Did they believe he was innocent or something? Jesus.
Yeah, one interesting aspect is how it was Ronan Farrow who broke this story, being the son of Woody Allen (and obviously the biological son of Frank Sinatra), two men who typify the old school men of power thing that got away with all sorts of gross shit back in the day. That's kind of interesting, actually. Ronan Farrow that wrote the piece on Weinstein in the New Yorker is Woody Allen's son. Ronan broke a story about his father allegedly sexually molesting his 5 year old sister, but that of course too was swept under the rug.
Nothing came out from that, iirc.

The industry is rotten. Everybody knows somebody that knows.
This fucking world man. For such things there should be a exception that they can get the sick fuck back to the US, goddamn man.
But HOW could you in your right mind continue to support someone like that? I'm shocked to hear that about some big actors and directors.

That was a weird video but it seemed..... consensual? Has the interviewer spoken out before on that video? There is also the other classic gropey Ben vid from long ago: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NMq6xDHBKwQ
Im confused here. Didnt everyone know Hollywood was a cesspool? I feel like we are all feigning outrage. We all knew that Harvey had this reputation.
.

But it's unknown if Nicholson was there when the rape took place? I mean it was his house after all......

There's a list of a bunch of people who openly opposed Polanski - some of them even signing a counter-petition - so there's some (at least on the surface) good eggs in Hollywoo.
I read it as a line Kevin Smith wrote for him. *shrugs*That can't be a real quote.
The fuck..
I don't think it's accurate to think watching their work makes you complicit. For one, filmmaking is a group effort and a film is the subtotal of a lot of people's work. Secondly, you can appreciate the work without condoning or even supporting the artist behind it. I feel a bit uneasy about going to a new Polanski movie at the theatre, but I've no qualms about watching his old movies through video libraries, free screenings at an art house near me, etc. I doubt paying to watch his old movies even benefits him financially in any way these days.Don't tar me as complicit. I've never seen a Woody Allen movie or a Roman Polansky movie in my life, and if Weinstein ever is involved in another movie I won't watch that either.
First of all, ugh.
Second of all, and it's been said before by other people in this thread, what she seems to be mad about here isn't that he didn't say/do something substantial then, but she feels like his statement now is making it seem like he didn't know what was going on, when she knows that he did.
Yikes, you really went there?
Ugh, disgusting post.

Meryl, come the fuck on.
What is it a person who hears about this stuff from a victim who doesn't want it known supposed to do?
I think painting this as only a Hollywood problem would be a large mistake. This shit is happening everywhere. It's happening in Silicon Valley. It's happening all over the offices across America. It's probably happening down the street at your local Wal-Mart or Target. It's happening at restaurants to the servers there. It's happening on college campuses. Men in this country have not learned not to rape or sexually assault. Men in power are especially prone to it. It's a plague.
Yeah, I knew a girl who worked for Xerox at the corporate level, and the horror stories she had, both personal and stuff she'd heard, were absolutely sickening, and not far off from this Hollywood stuff. Nothing she could do about it, she just ended up leaving instead.I think painting this as only a Hollywood problem would be a large mistake. This shit is happening everywhere. I'd like to think that at least some of the people who signed the petition for Polanski's release aren't aware of the full extent of what he's accused of and have just heard the sanitised talking around the facts bullshit his supporters have peddled over the years. Then they'd just be foolish not to have done their research before putting their names to that, rather than hypocrites and moral cowards of the lowest order.
Is their a link between Weinstein and the Feldman/Haim abuse?
Yeah sorry I just IMDB'd his credits and it wasn't really until the 90s that he got big.Their horrific encounters were probably before his hay day.
Well, yeah. I'd like to think it because it's horrible.(Says guy desperately concocting a justification for why his favorite isn't really a child rape apologist)
It doesn't matter what you'd "like to think." I'd like to think all sorts of things. I get it - the director of your favorite movie is on the list or something. Them's the breaks. Everyone knew what time it was, and all those suckas decided to throw their hat in the ring for a rapist. Because you like one or more of them doesn't mean it's time to start spooling up the bullshit excuse-o-matic.
Kinda ironic seeing Luc Besson there.
This isn't a good reason, but I think a lot in Hollywood who worked with him and knew him, saw The Pianist as him atoning for or purging his terribleness in some way. That movie, even though it was about Szpilman, was very personal to Polanski, and includes atleast one personal incident from his experience as a Holocaust survivor.
Hollywood also loves a comeback/redemption story. And of course many of them are also sexual abusers.
That gif of everyone applauding Polanski is fucking crazy to see for just about everyone that isn't in that room, but you know Hollywood is fucked up. It really just looks worse and worse every year.
Judy Garland's story shows this has been a thing and worse in Hollywood.
The man made some fantastic movies for sure but man, this is crazy. I would like to ask supporters of a person like that if they would do the same if that 13 year old girl was their daughter? Man it's things like these that I would almost say people are a mistake. My God. This shit is depressing to say the least.
Have you heard of President Trump?Hollywood isn't America.
