Some juicy bits:

"Unless I'm watching a DVD or a Saturday Night Live rerun, I don't ever want to see Mike Myers again. " - Cinemablend.com

"Written as though it had been tossed off rink-side in the first 10 minutes after the author had been hit in the head with a puck. Hard." - Killer Movie Reviews

"Laughs forgive a lot. Just ask Judd Apatow. But when the funniest line in the movie is an outtake from Verne Troyer, you've got problems." - Arizona Republic

"More painful than sitting next to an Austin Powers impersonator during a 12-hour flight. " - Metromix

"Offensive, revolting and jawdropingly awful from beginning to end, a complete and total piece of Singularly Horrid Infantile Trash (TM)." - Comingsoon.net

PS. Mike -> The Toronto Maple Leafs SUCK

Also coming out friday - which also looks pretty MEH.

Roger Ebert's reviews of both are up. Everyone needs to stay the hell away from The Love Guru.

I think I'll give Get Smart a try.

It's too obvious to know a movie is going to be awful because the marketing starts 2 months before release. How long have we been seeing commercials for these 2? Plus the over promotion!!! - American Idol appearance, SNL does a Mike Myers highlight show.

Love Guru is a big disappointment for me. Just rewatched al the Austin Powers movies in the last few days and was hoping for something good. :(

I'd love to get a group together to go to a bad movie, and sarcastically laugh like it's the greatest shit ever for the 2 people there to actually enjoy it.

Pro tip: Get drunk beforehand.

The Myers highlights reminded me just how good he was on SNL. The idea of revisiting some of those characters made me cringe at first until I saw the skill and dedication that he approached them with.

Yeah, Love Guru makes me weep for humanity.

I'll be seeing Get Smart.

The cast alone will be worth seeing. The reviews are actually better than I expected for the movie. Some of the trailer clip scenes seemed a bit cheesy. Glad to hear the full movie turned out well.

I'm not surprised by The Love Guru getting panned. Trailers for this movie made it look terrrrrrrriiiiiiiibbbbbbbblllllllleeeeeee.

I feel like Get Smart is going to take a certain type of humor to enjoy.

And I think I'm going to love it.

It seems like they stayed somewhat true to the goofiness of the TV show based on the commercials. I personally can't wait to see it.

Judging by the trailers, Get Smart looks like the perfect vehicle for Steve Carrell. It'll be nice to see his talent actually put to good use, rather than shamelessly squandered episode after episode on that horrible abortion of a show of which he is currently the star.

Sin City is the only movie I can think of that had Jessica Alba in it, but wasn't terrible.

get Smart just seems like a US version of Johnny English. Love Guru actually made me chuckle a few times when i saw the trailer in the cinema, which makes me feel really bad about myselg. Guess it does have Alba in it. Both cant be as bad as the Zohan.

Uh... Get Smart was originally a TV show from the 60s......

one of the greatest shows of all time IMO.

if only time life would have expedited shipping options in Canada i would get the box set in a heart beat.

Most certainly. I used to stay up when I was around 8 years old and watch this along with Mr Ed, Dragnet, and whatever else was on Nick at Nite all the time. Get Smart was the best of all of them. A shame they ruined the sequel show in 1995 right off the bat by casting Andy Dick.

Apparently a Get Smart box set is hitting stores in a couple months. I'm really looking forward to this movie.

FYI, the sets that will hit retailers are the the Time Life ones minus all extras.

I'm seeing Get Smart tomorrow afternoon. I highly doubt it deserves to be looped into the same thread as Love Guru.
The question is, will the rest of America agree?

fuck I just ordered it from timelife.ca ......they only offer standard shipping :(

does anyone else have this set?

from a love guru review:

Early on in the movie, Myers' guru character, Pitka, is doing yoga and literally sticks his head up his own rear end. There could be no more apt metaphor for what ensues onscreen
:lol

Well I was going to loop it into an Arrested Development and Seinfeld appreciation topic but figured this would be a more appropriate fit.

I'm seeing Get Smart this weekend. I enjoyed the 7 min preview on itunes and i've become a fan of Steve Carell since i was introduced to The Office about a year ago. Not to mention the movie will have this lovely lady in it:

This Ebert review of Guru is great:

What is it with Mike Myers and penis jokes? Having created a classic, funny scene with his not-quite-visible penis sketch in the first “Austin Powers” movie, he now assembles, in “The Love Guru,” as many more penis jokes as he can think of, none of them funny, except for one based on an off-screen “thump.

At the center of all of this is Guru Pitka, desperately trying to get himself on the Oprah program and finding acronyms in some of the most unlikely words. He has a strange manner of delivering punchlines directly into the camera and then laughing at them — usually, I must report, alone.

There’s a moment of invention near the beginning of the film (his flying cushion has a back-up beeper), and then it’s all into the dump. Even his fellow actors seem to realize no one is laughing. That’s impossible, because they can’t hear the audience, but it looks uncannily like they can, and don’t.

:lol :lol

Jesus that picture....did anybody else's mouth shoot toward their computer monitor?

Anyway, I won't be seeing either of them. Love Guru looks terrible and Get Smart looks like a raping of one of my favourite shows ever.

I find the impressions and reviews funny considering what i had read previously about the movie on Famous magazine.

“This is what I’ve been working on,” Myers states flatly, not sounding like someone who thinks he needs to make any excuses. “I would do secret shows in the character of the guru at friends’ theatres. About a third of the audience were friends of mine, a third would be people who had heard that I was doing it and a third would be people who thought they were coming to see a sutra by an actual guru. I did that for a year and I videotaped them, and they informed the movie.”

“I haven’t done many movies over the period of time that I’ve been doing movies,” he acknowledges. “I create and I write the movies that I do. An average film takes 60 months from your first inkling of an idea to it first being in front of an audience, and I actually only take 36 months, generally. But because I write and produce them, I’m actually in an office from nine to five every day. And because that’s so satisfying, it does take a lot to break me out of that cycle and do somebody else’s movie — although I have, I will and I do.”

“There are two things you’ve got to chart in a movie, which are going for the dramatic goal, and your A laughs,” Myers explains. “They have to be figured out to get that comedic momentum. It’s more of a journeyman task, or like being an engineer, in that way. But it takes time, that’s the thing.”

sounds to me like he should have gone back to formula.

Jessica Alba is a fucking death knell when it comes to movies. Just look at this:

Good Luck Chuck
The Eye
BOTH of the Fantastic Four movies
The Love Guru
Honey
:lol :lol :lol
