Rotten Watch: 'The Love Guru' & 'Get Smart'

Caught Get Smart this afternoon and enjoyed the hell out of it. Is it a great comedy, a classic spoof, or a movie that will be remembered for years to come? No, but it is $10 worth of consistently funny and charming entertainment. I really hope it does well. Really dug the chemistry between Steve Carell and Anne Hathaway, and Terence Stamp had me in stitches multiple times with his deadpan-yet-simultaneously-scene-chewing delivery. Great fun!

Looks like the moviegoing masses made the right call, for once. Also, The Love Guru has possibly usurped my beloved Speed Racer as the biggest bomb of the year.

I am shocked that Get Smart beat The Love Guru. I expected the public to just file into The Love Guru because it was the new Mike Myers comedy. Not to mention the advertising blitz there has been for it. I see a commercial for it during almost every commercial break, and almost every channel. AND Myers was pimping it like crazy to the MTV audience during the movie awards...sad story. Just imagine the drop we'll see next week.

It's also been 6 years since the last Austin Powers movie, which most people were disappointed with and thought his shtick was wearing thin. Add in the fact that The Love Guru appeared to be the same exact shtick with a costume change, and I don't see how it was looking that great.chubigans said:
