It had more to do with that frankenstein script.

Was still better than T3. Worthington and CG Arnie at least made it enjoyable.

The score is still terrible though. Screw Danny "I am so funny" Elfman.

I'm not sure TS is better than T3. I'm watching all the terminators back to back right now and T3 is a lot better than I remember it being. (I haven't done TS yet).

Terminator 2 is one helluva movie. Still the best action movie of all time. There are so many memorable moments.

My favorite scene ever is when Sarah is in the mental institute and she's the most powerful women in the world. Then she escapes runs down the hall, sees Arnie and collapses as if she's nothing. Such a powerful moment.

I also love the scene in the extended cut where she's pushing against the fence by the playground, the bomb hits and everyone burns to a crisp.

The T-800 during the intro scene is still scary looking, it feels like its looking into your soul. :lol

Watching all the Terminators as well. The scene when T1000 pursuits with the liquid nitrogen truck is too good

Just got back from it.

Meh.

It's a beautiful and immersive movie, but it's hella long. The last time I started rubbing my eyes in a movie was during the first LOTR. This movie is about an hour too long. Even being generous, it's half an hour too long. It's a nice story, but I really feel like the hype for this movie is unwarranted. Like Titanic, this is a one-shot for me. I don't see any return appeal of even a Star Wars prequel. I can watch those for mindless action, but Avatar doesn't really even have that.

I will say I felt like I got my $10 worth. It's nice to come out of a movie feeling like I was served a good product. I just don't get some of the hysteria. Not to come off too negative. I can't let runtime put such a dent in a movie. Good movie, just too damn long. PEACE.

Man that's too bad. Personally I felt it wasn't long enough! Did you see it in 3D? Some people in the thread were saying how the 3Dness was tiring them out.

By the way, I totally didn't notice Neytiri was completely topless in a few scenes until my second viewing.

Huh.
Oh, they're there in more than a few scenes. I'm actually not sure how Cameron didn't get a MPAA tag for nudity, unless alien bewbz don't count.

+Cameron, sci-fi, R-rating. Which is enough to sell me before the other stuff.
I doubt BA will have a R-rating, considering the source material. And the fact cameron stated earlier that he was aiming for a PG-13 rating IIRC.

Also, how funny is it that 7 months after McG's crappy movie in Cameron's old franchise comes out, Cameron releases a new movie that makes TS nothing more than a footnote in history?

FUCKING THIS x1000

I have all these friends that have tried forever to convert me over to T3 * and TS *.

There are (and always will be) only 2 Terminator flicks.

You're either completely unfamiliar with Gunnm/Battle Angel, or you're fucking nuts. Not to mention Cameron has stated repeatedly that Gally would be topless during much of the film (will be interesting to see where the MPAA stands on nipple-less 14-year-old cyborg breasts).

I'm a big fan of the manga, and I have difficulty imagining a PG-13 Battle Angel. There's just no way you could stay true to the source material that way. As for cyborg breasts, Gally's are nothing like real breasts; I doubt the MPAA would have a problem with them.

Oh really? I'll have to catch that on the next viewin'. :D

Cameron said they had to edit out some tit shots from Avatar to keep it PG-13 due to the free flowing software effect they had on Neytiri's "clothes"

BigDug13 said:
Just showing breasts doesn't land you am R rating. Milla got topless 2 or 3 times in the fifth element and that was PG13
I wasn't saying it should land an R rating, just an MPAA note. Avatar is rated PG-13 for:

Rated PG-13 for intense epic battle sequences and warfare, sensuality, language and some smoking.
Smoking gets a mention, but no nudity.

Just came back from my second viewing, and w00t!!!

Everything felt better; the 3D (same theatre as before), the soundtrack (although, could be louder) and in some cases the emotion. Love this movie. :D

I love the reply of my brother when I asked him about the GC: "I don't know how it could get better".

PS. Theatre was packed. Looked over-booked.

Damn RealD give me one hell of a headache the other day, good god. Then friend called up and said she wanted to see it today so I went again, and yup, another headache! I didn't mind though, since the movie is worth it. Only downside is now she is hell bent on learning how to speak Na'vi. The whole damn ride back, that's all I heard. Fuck you, Cameron!

I love the zoom-in on Jake after Neytiri's father says 'Bind them.'

You can just see the absolute dread in Jake's face of the shit-storm he knows is on its way.

Heh, gotta love those free-flowing clothes of hers. :D

Also, the lighting was just right so that you wouldn't notice them unless you were really really trying to look. Pervs. :lol

I love Worthington though, I still remember his role in Gettin' Square way back in 2003 (although he was overshadowed a lot by David Wenham hilarious performance, he still managed to impress) and then his bit role in Love My Way. Cant believe he has shot to stardom so fast.
I really hope he does some smaller films after he gets these blockbusters out of his system. Somersault has his best performance to date. Kind of a blah movie, but he really nailed the character.

So does anyone else really want a Neytiri figure or statue? I would love one on my desk!

I searched around and found that sideshow collectibles are working on one:

here is a link to an early scan of the figure:

looks great so far, but I think it might cost a little to much.

Thanks for posting this. I'd love to buy a Neytiri figure like that. It'll look great when finished!

Whaaaaaaaaaaaa? I didn’t notice any nipples, but now you're telling me that Neytiri was completely topless!?

I didn't realize that even on my second viewing. I'll be on the look out for it next time....mind semi-blown! :lol

just re-read some of sculli's first avatar threads :lol it's quite funny to read all the statements from some years ago. and i have to admit that i didn't pay attention for a long time about his threads. i always clicked on them but the lack of pictures or videos was quite disappointing. but it's awesome if you read something like "this will be an event/experience no one should miss" - and it turned out this article was right after all.

I am part of the problem. This movie is a solid 6.5/10. If this didn't have James Cameron associated with it nor 99.9% of the movie utilizing some kind of CG, this would be just another movie.

You fucking nerds duped me again.

Just back from the movie. Such an entertaining movie. Some scenes are just mind-blowing in their rendering of human emotions on digital characters. The body language nuances, the hair dynamic, the ears movements, the details are such a non-stop delight.

Was good to see that my company was prominently featured in the movie (http://www.facebook.com/rdaintegrated). Hopefully we'll get some calls from confused souls.

And like was said, reading through those, so many quotes that were mocked are now clearly spot-on.

3D is an experience that for most folks can not really be duplicated at home with the effect it has in a movie theater. And when you have films like MONSTERS VS ALIENS coming in the format – you’ll see what I mean. The big one will be AVATAR – and Katzenberg has seen some of James Cameron’s mysterious film in 3D and he believes it will singlehandedly revolutionize the business. It will be THE experience to experience and Jeffrey’s campaign in many ways isn’t just about getting enough screens to do MONSTERS VS ALIENS – but to pave the way for AVATAR which will convert the unconverted
Sixteen months ago, and he was right on the money.

My favorite post from those threads so far:

So I guess this really WAS early concept art. Its got the stripes, the 4 fingers and toes. The end of the tail seems like it could be the Qeue for bonding as well.

Hahah .... you fell for our ruse.

Go rent Juno and play ICO next!

Maybe I am crazy, but I didn't see anything special about Avatar's 3D over, say, Coraline's. I even saw Avatar in 3D IMAX (FIFTEEN US DOLLARS) against just a normal Digital screen for Coraline, but I was easily more blown away by freaking stop motion animation being so amazing. That movie will look good forever. Avatar will be bested in 3 or 4 years by the next special effects monster.

This movie was so damn generic. I remember when it was called Dances with Wolves and then at least I could connect with the title character. I sympathized with his feelings and experiences. I felt no connection to any character in this movie other than the Doctor that was supposed to be the main dude. Him being all pissy was the only real emotion I felt in the whole movie. Giovanni Ribisi's character that we just have to hate was so typical that I am surprised they didn't get Paul Giamatti to do it (the easiest portrayals to hate are Giamatti's)

James Cameron is such a popcorn flick maker. This film held nothing of substance other than a passive slight at the US for being in Iraq and Afghanistan. The fact that this movie will end up doing 5x as much gross as District 9 is atrocious. That was a movie that wasn't paint by the numbers and you felt real emotion with the bumbling character. Even though much of it was SFX like Avatar, the humanistic side of the Aliens actually produces empathy in the viewer.

The Hurt Locker only did $16 million worldwide :(

Fucking nerds...

Juno at least had Michael Cera right on the cusp of being played out, instead of after.

LOL about Ico, too. :) Good show TA, good show.

Nah, Cameron debunked it. He described the Na'vi in detail in the original treatment which somebody obviously designed that piece around.

Ah, right. Didn't think of that.

This thread is to Sculli. What Avatar is to Cameron.
