Me too. Should be a good romp instead of Terra pt. 2.

So by saying Avatar was really much, much better than expected, that it looked amazing and that the story was gripping if cheesy in many places the Guardian is in technical breach of the agreement. It is not a breach, however, to report that other journalists leaving the screening were also positive: the terrible film that some had been anticipating had not materialised. It was good.

omg rite said:Yeah, some idiot spoiled something about the movie in Sculli's last thread. Then one of the newer TV spots showed basically the entire plot to the movie even more than full trailers. It was pretty bad.
PrivateWHudson said:The idea of it being spoiled didn't burst my bubble. I willingly read the spoiler, but I didn't like what I read. I can only hope now that it was a false report, and things go differently; however, my expectations have dropped considerably.

At this point in time I'm just hoping that Avatar really delivers the best action I've seen in a long time - that's all I'm going for and anything else will be a welcome surprise. While I expect the film to be better written and acted than summer blockbuster crap like Transformers, or Wolverine, Cameron does include quite a lot of cheese in his movies so I am expecting to wince once or twice due to cheesy dialog.
I gave up on expecting a movie anywhere near as good as Terminator (yes Terminator since I think its superior to T2), or Aliens, the moment I saw the first trailer. All I'm expecting is a cheesy blockbuster movie done very well, by a director far superior to hacks like Bay.

On paper, the ending to T2 is incredibly cheesy, but it's far from it in execution. (Titanic, as well.)PrivateWHudson said:For the record, I LOVE cheesy shit. Especially Cameron's special brand of cheese. This ain't cheese. I really hope that it either just somehow "works", or the spoiler was a misinterpretation or outright BS.
Can't write about the flick but I can be thrilled about it candidly. Cynical movie folks notwithstanding, not many will be disappointed.
joey_z said:Speaking of Sculli, what happens to him after the movie is released, and the reviews are out and the discussion of the reviews have taken place? Does he just...disappear?
BBC said:Cameron, 55, is unlikely to be worried - having proved critics wrong in the past.
Titanic, released in 1997, suffered bad advance publicity, with rumours of production problems and spiralling budgets - but it went on to win 11 Academy Awards and take $1.8bn (£1.1bn) at the worldwide box office.

It's the last movie Cameron directed?Big-E said:What does Titanic have to do with Avatar? Avatar is not going to do anything close to Titanic financially and critically so I have no idea why it always gets brought up.
That sucks for Cameron, because Avatar is receiving good advance publicity.Jibril said:

Cameron has a strong history at the box office, and it will be a surprise if Avatar doesn't do well. Comparisons to Titanic are inevitable, but need to be in the right context.
People talking Oscars are kind of ridiculous, IMO.Big-E said:Going from the previous threads and this one, it seems like people hold up Titanic as this bastion of proof that Avatar is going to clean house financially and at the Oscars when they are completely different movies marketed at completely different people based on trailers.
