Empire Strikes Back is still the greatest sequel of all time, closely followed by Godfather Pt. II.

Just utterly fantastic. The Blu-rays need to come out yesterday.

That doesn't really make sense. It fluctuated so much because the more reviews that come in the more locked it becomes. After watching the film it definitely proves itself. Obviously it is an adventure only James Cameron can provide, but that is just one component of the masterwork.

I'm loving this. I was one of the few people who were still having an open-mind about it instead of succumbing to the GAF-hive mind. Nice to see that it's getting excellent reviews. I'll definitely be watching it on opening weekend.

Pretty interesting info on the 3D side, but I don't quite understand the convergence thing.

If ever there was a movie to watch in the theaters, it's this one.

It'd be one thing if you're simply never going to see it, but if you are, you should do yourself a favor and watch it on the big screen.
 
I hated Star Trek until I saw the new movie. I was so reluctant to jump on board but now I sort of want to watch at least the original movies and series since the new one was a prequel sequel reboot and done well too. I think some of the trailers piqued my interest. Wait, why am I talking about this?

I love Star Wars & I like Darth Vader, but I agree with this. Darth Vader is not one of the greatest villians, certainly when compared to Joker, Hannibal Lecter, or even Jabba the Hut and The Emperor.

After Star Wars (Even then, he was unter Tarkin), he was shown to be a lackey- just following orders. The prequels help add the fact that he was easy to coerce which explains the change in Return of the Jedi. However, he was a memorable character with the breathing and James Earl Jones voice. I guess that's why he is on so many best villian lists.

Star Wars was good for the heroes which were better developed. I cared a whole lot more for the droids, Solo, & Skywalker than Vader.

seriously...when they showed the two suns with baby Luke, at the end of Revenge of the Sith..all my hatred for the prequels went away, and i wept little geek tears.

The original scene in SW is one of my favorite film moments of all time.

and yes Empire Strikes Back IS the best sequel of all time.

I guess ALIENS is bound to come up (but there are reasons why its NOT the best sequel, considering its not anything like the first film)

Godfather II is a great contender..but it wasn't better then the original movie IMO.

Star Trek 2? Well, The original Star Trek was really shitty so that isnt saying much.

Terminator 2..this is a tough call, I still think part 2 was a little too family friendly despite being R Rated.

anyone got another sequel that I am not thinking of? Don't you DARE say Spiderman 2...

EDIT..and all this nonsense about Vader not being a good villian? WHAT? He is the epitome of evil..he is the dark knight. i mean he destroyed an entire planet of people in the first movie. AN ENTIRE PLANET.
 
X2 and Toy Story 2 were damned good sequels.

Found one that's doing an early opening on wednesday, with the movie subbed instead of dubbed...but it's Dolby 3D. Meh I might just bite the bullet. I'll take a couple of tylenols before heading out. :P

Don't do it, its not worth it! I would rather spray shampoo in my eyes and watch the film, than watch it in Dolby.

I don't understand Sculli's unreasonable hatred for Dolby3D.
I saw MBV3D in it and the effect was great. It was a little jittery but until movies are shown at a higher framerate that is just going to be the case no matter what condition you see a movie.

I've also seen Aliens of the Abyss and Beowolf3D in IMAX on the very screen I'm going to see AVATAR and while it is bigger and better, it's definitely not night and day. Dolby3D just isn't that bad. I don't see any reason to see the film in 2D over D3D.

When I'm home for the holidays I will most likely see AVATAR in D3D with my family at the local theater. If I remember to I'll post a comparison.

I get you. But let´s put it this way - I like it that James Cameron put that kind of criticism in a movie that reaches a much bigger audience than any other regime critic movie would. I give him credit for that.

I dunno if it's unreasonable though. I've seen both Up and Avatar Day in Dolby3D and -I- hated it. It was uncomfortable, the glasses were heavy, it didn't fit comfortably over my own glasses, the field of vision is reduced because of the heavy and thick frame, everything feels dimmed and closed in, and while the effects worked - I just wasn't impressed and don't wish to suffer through the experience just for some enhanced depth in the picture.

Given a choice between Dolby3D and Digital 2D, I'll watch movies on a digital 2D screen any day. I love the experience and it's sharp, bright and clear. I also don't feel like the movie is trying to kill me while I'm watching it. The only reason I'm even bothering with Avatar in 3D is because RealD is being hyped up as a "totally different experience" than Dolby3D, and a cinema here is finally screening stuff in RealD instead of Dolby3D.

This stuff always bothers me... I guess it's not worth debating though. Why can't people just enjoy the damn movie for what it is? Look political agendas can get obnoxious when they're constantly shoved in your face. That being said I can look past it and enjoy the movie, it won't change my opinion of the guy.

I honestly had no problems at all with my D3D outing.
Now that I think about it though.. it might have been the nature of MBV3D at work, I went to it for laughs and had a great night. I wasn't taking anything about the experience seriously.

I want to hear what you think about RealD when all is said and done.
I've never seen RealD before, hell I actually don't think I've ever seen a Digital2D movie either.
