Never underestimate the monster box office draw that is Will Smith.

I think at this point we're all just waiting for it to come out. Even the reviews have seen a solid consensus so far, so there's nothing much to wait for there outside of laughing at Armond White (or being surprised by him).

Not to diminish the box office take of I Am Legend, but don't you think the shorter run time had something to do with it?

I Am Legend clocked in at 101 minutes and LOTR was close to 3 hours. More showings = more money.

Nah. LOTR coming out on a Wednesday had something to do with it. Every LOTR had a 100 mil+ opening from Wed to Sunday. If they had come out on Friday they would have made more than IAL.

...Still debating to go see this after work at midnight with a friend at the mall of georgia IMAX. Almost an hour long trip there from work, gah.

They've opened a new iMax in Kennesaw. I'll be catching the midnight showing there.

The AMC 24 imax in Kennesaw is a liemax :(. Better than nothing though.

Damnit man are you serious? This Is It had amazing picture quality and was leaps and bounds better than any regular theater I've been to.

Is the iMax at the Mall of GA seriously that much better?

It's definitely better than a regular theatre, but the Mall of GA one is gigantic and amazing. Everyone literally went "woooooah" during the first scene at the Dark Knight screening. (where the camera zooms into the building from afar)

Sigourney Weaver on Daily show right now ,talking about the viewfinder and shot. jon Stewart opened talking about how this film looked like it was gonna bomb, but then referenced the rottentomatoes score and said how it was surprising people.

Yeah anyone who didn't see TDK on an IMAX screen really missed out on a special experience.

Now hold on a second. My iPhone may automatically alter the capitalization on iTunes or iLife, but whenever I type in IMAX it automatically capitalizes all of the letters.

I remember the "Whoa...." from everyone in the theater just during the opening shot of the skyscrapers :lol

When Fox was walking into the Hong Kong headquarters, I thought I was walking right behind him for a couple seconds.

Man, those three new negative reviews were just waiting for the clock to strike twelve.
Four - another just hit from Slant. There's a good 20 more positive reviews out there that haven't hit RT yet. I was surprised they only added about 10 today.

I have a question for you guys.

A few months ago I asked some of my friends if they wanted to see Avatar with me on opening night, to which they all agreed.

Then a few days ago, one of those friends asks me if it would be OK if his girlfriend's brother came with us. I didn't see a problem with this (the more the merrier, right?), but then my friend mentioned that he is handicapped and is in a wheelchair. So, now I'm wondering if that means that he will need an aisle seat. If so, that would totally ruin my plans of sitting directly in the middle, where the screen is the most immersive.

In the event that this guy needs to have an aisle seat, do you guys think it would be rude and insensitive of me to sit in the middle while he and whoever wants to sit with him sit near the aisle? I don't want to come off as a dick, but I have been waiting 12 fucking years for this night. Besides, i don't even know the guy. Still, he is the brother of my best friend's girlfriend, so if I offend him, it would probably offend my friend as well...

as far as I'm concerned it's a see for myself and that I will do. So no matter what that's a +1 ticket sale. Plus whoever I drag with me. I'm totally hoping it blows me away though.

Absolutely not. Just tell him, hey, I'm gonna sit in the middle because I really prefer it over here, and that's that. I doubt he'll say, "nah man, I want you to sit next to me."

Just get more people to go with you so your whole group takes up half the row. Then you can be in the middle with a chain of friends all of the way to the aisle.

I don't know if I should spend the $17 or $18 to watch it in IMAX or just wait for it to come to my local theater and spend $4. I'm going to watch it, but I"m not really hyped about it. The trailers make it seem really dull.

Honest answer? Suck it up and let him sit on the aisle seat. Just make sure you sit on the extreme end of your group of friends so you're most towards the middle. It might be awkward to tell him to sit alone, or that you're sitting alone, or splitting the group in half.

Invite more and more and more people until you are put in the middle.

The more the merrier right? Do it.

ughhh i was totally uninterested in this movie but how the hype is getting to me!! I guarantee I cave and go see this in IMAX on friday.

Quick question: anyone know the difference between "IMAX 3D experience" and RealD3D?
The Imax theater is 50 mins away vs the RealD3D amc theater which is only 15mins away. Is one better than the other in a major way? (Imax screen/sound?)

Depending on whether its a real IMAX or a Liemax, the benefits are different, having experience all 3. I will say that both True IMAX and LieMAX are both better than Real D. Worth the drive.

Oh by the way, 24 hours from now I will be half an hour into my screening. :D

Someone should change the thread title to include (IMAX>LieMAX>RealD>Having a crackwhore shit on your face>Dolby3D) to end the repeating discussion.

I'm seeing it in RealD this weekend.

QUESTION:

I HAVE GLASSES, DOES ANYONE HAVE EXPERIENCES WITH PUTTING THE REALD GLASSES OVER MY REGULAR ONES?

Bolded for a quick response.
If you're used to glasses I don't think any 3D glasses will bug you. I think they're all made to go over glasses and they only bother non glasses users. I've wore gasses for 13 years and IMAX and realD glasses over mine were fine.

Good luck wearing Dolby glasses comfortably over other glasses. They're not comfortable even if you don't wear glasses.

I haven't tried dolby. So.. I probably shouldn't imply all are ok over glasses.

What does a LieMax theater lack that a true blue IMAX has (and how can one tell)? I may be watching this this weekend at my local IMAX (at Jordan's Furniture).

You know everything that you think of when you think of IMAX? LieMAX doesn't have it.

Sheeeiiit

I'm guessing my local IMAX is true IMAX (large ass screen and "buttkickers" that rock your seat during the movie). Haven't watched a 3D movie at it yet, can't wait.

Do you know if it was Dolby 3D or Real D?

?

Also, which movie did you see if you don't mind my asking?
Ok so me and a friend (GAF user "AssemblyRequired") want to go see this in the IMAX. How exactly can we be sure that the movie has Real D or just the regular Dolby 3D glasses beforehand (w/o dealing with the ill-informed employees). We're going to the IMAX in Buford, GA (Mall of Georgia).

Anyone have a ticket to the Greenwich IMAX (London) for the 17th at 8pm who wants to sell them to me? Kind of want to take along one extra friend who I didn't pre-book for, and now I'm stuffed! Naturally I'll pay a higher price or swap the ticket for a game or something lol.

Well my local iMAX has subwoofers that will shake YOU. You feel it in your chest and it really gets you going. Although it has less of that when sitting in the middle. So i sit on the outsides to get that full effect =] It's so awesome.

IMAX use a polarized system like RealD. Their glasses are big and cover just about all your field of vision.

Richard Roeper has also reviewed the film and he's given it an A-

http://www.richardroeper.com/reviews/avatar.aspx

Mainly nothing but praise, especially concerning the visuals and epicness of the film. His only negative comments are about the "gooey plot elements" (the "new age" spirituality and the Iraq parallels). But, he quickly brushes those aside and notes that the real key is just to appreciate the wonderous sights on the screen which you'll get for the whole movie.

Some party-poopers seriously dragged down the score. :lol I only read two of those reviews. They're basically hating it on all fronts.
one of the reviews said:
n this context, Cameron's would-be blockbuster is a veritable Join the Jihad pamphlet actively engaged in glorifying those Americans who take up cause against their country, a stance that would be far more confrontational and distasteful were it worth actually taking seriously in the first place.
..Oh!

from another one said:
And, in the long section where Jake explores his foreign surroundings of forests, cliffs and waterfalls and is chased around by a cavalcade of alien creatures, all that one is reminded of is how much more thrilling and involving it was in 2005's "King Kong."
I see! :D
