But the Academy Awards will expedite the arrival of an inevitably leaked Oscar screener! The success of this thing is only gonna delay the Blu-Ray

Well said sir, I loved that seen a lot too, it's such a damn shame it cost so much to make this. It would have been soo much better as a 4 hour epic, with little scenes like this but so much more detailed. I seen it mentioned it the thread earlier and I had the same thought about this movie being similar to "Dances with Wolves, and I love that it was all about the "Alien"(Costner) becoming one of the Indians, and growing to love them as a people, and eventually saw himself as one, I also think he should have portrayed Jake's and Neytiri's love for one another more, or make Quaritch a little more less one-dimensional. Example, he could have made a scene where he was looking at his kids/wife or something not sure, and showing that he missed them dearly, something I'm not sure. Fox should have just given him and Bil and made it, 4 or 5 hours( or in 2 movie released 4 months apart! I do agree the story wasn't the best story ever, but the visuals are there, the wonderful acting(expectantly Zoe), but the fine detail in the (character's) wasn't. I guess it's just one of those things. Where you need more time to flesh out the character's. It still worked though, I'm not saying this is a knock on the film, I just reaaallly liked it. It has it all there, for more(sequals), and if so.. then it could turn into Cameron's own ""trilogy"". I just hope he does them, and makes it his. Because I hate when they make something soo awesome and just give it to another director on the sequals, it's just not the same! Don't worry I know this was/is ... wishful thinking......GhaleonEB said:Agree, that's a perfect summation of my thoughts on Avatar.
I loved this little vignette. Most movies would have skipped it, just focusing on the spectacle of the flight. But this one moment brought it down a notch and made it more real; how Jake was learning the mechanics of flying (adjusting properly for the wind, taking the correct angles on approaches), and how he and Neytiri were bonding during his training. Avatar's story is pretty straight forward, but it's got these kind of moments throughout that just add so much to the characters and the story.
I really think Cameron's story telling instincts are underrated by those who dismiss the overall framework of the plot as being too familiar. He grounds the fantastic in a way that's instantly relatable.
That's some good shit right there. Though it only helps make the wait for the extended edition more annoying. Especially since it's not going to be coming for a while. I'm actually wondering which will get released first, that or perhaps the novel. Jeez, Cameron has a lot on his plate, especially if he takes on The Dive as well.Dead said:- He says Earth scenes were about 99% finished and when they were cut, everybody was pretty surprised
- Earth scenes aren't that long, they are part of a brief introductory.
- Earth scenes consisted of: street shot and Jakes apartment (mentioned by Cameron) along with a barfight and an alley outside the bar where the corp guys originally approach Jake.
- Says a lot of nice character development and depth was dropped. Says that should there be an extended cut, it should be at least 30 minutes longer rather than 12 (a number Cameron brandied about in an interview)
- Lot of trimmed dialogue from Quaritch here and there that really gave you a better feel for the character
- Regarding there only being 12 or so minutes of finished/near finished footage left over, he says there should be a good batch of other material that is in pretty good shape as well (meaning, probably near-finished). All depends on how much is spent on making an extended cut.
- About the Deleted scene picture posted several pages back (Here), he says: "it's a pretty awesome acting/cg-acting moment as well, and was fully finished AFAIK"
I would imagine that Cameron wanted to be that long too. But in the end, technical and audience considerations had to be taken into account (again, IMAX runtime limit and if audiences can tolerate long 3D movies) which forced them to cut it to about 2 and a half hours. For the home edition, well, Cameron can probably make it as long as he wants now, it just depends on how many scenes he still would want in an extended cut.neoism said:Well said sir, I loved that seen a lot too, it's such a damn shame it cost so much to make this. Or something along those lines.
If anyone could have had an intermission, it's Cameron!Combine said:I would imagine that Cameron wanted to be that long too. I laughed, but even now it's hard to remember just how much of a risk Avatar was. A hugely expensive, original, sci-fi mostly-CG movie filmed in 3D and released during the holidays. Just two weeks ago this was a huge question mark.neoism said:If anyone could had had an intermission, it's Cameron!

Yes. A pivotal scene in the theatrical release of Watchmen was taken out because of this too.ThatCrazyGuy said:IMAX has run time limits?
Yeah. I believe the current limit is 170 minutes. And that includes trailer, IMAX intro, etc.ThatCrazyGuy said:IMAX has run time limits?

Woah, I sure missed that. I did knew that Na'vis had four fingers though..RedShift said:Na'vi do, Avatars don't. It's stuff like that which makes this film awesome, tiny details never explicitly said.

I didn't see the theatrical version of Watchmen, but I think I remember what people were complaining about. Was it the scene withNarag said:Which scene?

I dunno, I think Cameron's in love with the underseas. Besides he'd probably use it as a partial excuse to get inspired for the sequels to come up with new vistas and creatures. I just hope that the project doesn't take him too long.Solo said:Im just hoping and praying that seeing the worldwide praise and these incredible box office numbers for Avatar has inspired Cameron to say GTFO to The Dive, and jump back into Pandora for Avatar 2. Add to that what happened with the Terminator franchise.
You already spent a decade dicking around underseas, James. The silver screen needs you.

I cant see Avatar 2 being ready that soon. Even with the fact that they have all the tech in place and if Cameron made A2 his next project, I cant imagine seeing it any sooner than 2013Solo said:Personally, Id like to see:
