As a big fan of the original I ended up enjoying it a lot more than I thought I would.

I'm glad they didn't try to recreate the humour of the first three films and did something slightly different. Overall I think they pulled it off about as well as you could expect.

I really don't get people saying that it was a pointless remake - yes I still prefer the original but this was far from a simple retread. They only share a few vital elements, the execution and the details are entirely different.

I don't think it was bad movie, but it was really pointless remake

Agreed. It didn't do anything special and was pretty forgettable.

The only thing that impresssed me were the practical effects. I was convinced a lot of the effects were cgi, until I read up on the wiki. Very well done.

The ONE thing I did like was that the ending scene did what Raimi tried to do with the original. Raimi showed cuts of the movie to his financier and the guy said he wanted blood dripping down the screen. More blood all the time. The more blood they can throw on screen the better. And in the remake they make it happen.

More heavy on the gore than I would have liked, almost cartoonish in that regard in fact

plus it had Jane Levy who was amazing in it so that grants it my seal of approval

If only Emma Stone wasn't a thing she would be big

It's a fantastic script in terms of its actual writing, I read it as well, your prof knows what's up. Their action description is top notch.

It's the only Evil Dead I don't own though for a lot reasons, included in the script- don't flash cut explanations to every single event before it happens, that shit is annoying to no end, kills all suspense.

Edit: And fuck Drag Me to Hell, that movie was even worse. I actually regretted paying money to see it.

I enjoyed this remake, but as others said a bit too much gore in place of genuine scares. Still, worth a watch for fans of the original.

It wasn't bad - Jane Levy was actually quite good in fact. A lack of CGI also helped.
The stinger at the end as well... Groovy
Still 1 and 2 > it, but it's a remake worthy of the name.
