Cataclysm and No Man's Land was some of the best arcs in Batman. They didn't make any fucking sense in the larger DC Universe but it led to some awesome fucking stories about the Batclan.

wtf? I never knew there was an entire season after Epilogue dealing with the Legion of Doom.

Grodd/Luthor trying to out-smug each other is the best part of season 5, the legion of doom pretty much make the season. I'm glad that they didn't end with a predictable "final battle" between both sides, the league had pretty much no idea what they were up to most of the season. The Hawkman shit was weak though.

"You're a technological cretin. A sadistic child playing with power tools." - Grodd

"I'm the superior being. Both physically...and mentally." - Grodd

"I'm already more powerful than all of you put together." - Luthor

"I'm a sick person too." - Luthor

"Why is my headquarters moving?" - Grodd

"Idiot simian! Half-baked objectivist!" - Luthor

"Goodbye, Grodd. It could have gone the other way."
"It really could have, couldn't it?"
"No. But why speak ill of the dead?" *opens airlock*

I was like "oh SHIET"

While Epilogue is heartwarming, the episode really just feels more like "hah, JL would be shit without Batman! Worship his feet!" in retrospect. That and the fact that they kinda ruined BB in some way.

With that said, I want to see more of that BB-era JL.

Agree!!...the amount of Bat Worship was kinda eye rolling....

Yep, I hate that I didn't care for her much until a year before she was gone.
She becomes my number 2 comic character and im there just in time for the New52 to wipe her out.

Her and Wally are the only none legacy versions I greatly prefer.

Steph-era Batgirl is also really quite good

All the Batgirls kick ass, Babs, Cass and Steph.

Started watching JLU with my daughter and we watched the first episode with Question in it. We lost our shit when he was singing that boy band song while breaking into the place. Definitely enjoying the series so far.

Well considering STAS, JL and JLU wouldn't have happened without the success of BTAS I think Batman being a slightly bigger deal is fine.

The more I watch this, the less I understand the extent of their powers. How does The Flash get outrun by a van? Superman routinely has his ass handed to him.

There's no hard and fast rules about Flash's speed, he mainly runs on rule of plot. Supes is canonically super powerful but he doesn't actually like hurting stuff so he jobs a lot in the first season.

GL likewise, despite being pretty creative with his ring, tends to restrict his usage to things that hit other things. Hey, at least he's not weak to yellow.

Superman says in one episode that every hit he takes is one his teammates don't have to. He's only actually hurt by electricity, magic and kryptonite; apparently only other beings as powerful as him can hurt him through conventional means.

Flash only going a certain speed at times can probably explained by what happens at the end of JLU season 1. Him going extremely fast has been shown to have adverse affects on him and his surroundings (like in the brain swap episode).

Superman gets his ass handled pretty often in the first few seasons. A lot. He gets a little better about not having that happen as the series goes on.

he's not overtly weak to yellow, but if you notice there are a couple of times where something yellow just passes through his constructs

He got beat fairly bad in "War World."

He shouldn't have to exert himself much to go faster than a car.
Gosh i wish I had netflix in this country.
Use a proxy.

I get bending the rules for dramatic reasons, but it seems like the writers have no rules. Did they even have a head writer during the first season?

It's moving at an awkward speed though. It'd be like us carrying a mattress or running next to a dog, it's not that hard to run as fast as most dogs or to lift the weight of a mattress, but to keep from smashing the dog is more challenging, as is walking about with a mattress because of its odd dimensions/springiness.

...Or the internal logic/physics of the show fluctuates

... what are you talking about?

Flash mach-punching Brainiac/Luthor was the hypest thing in the show.

The guy at least made 5-8 full laps of the Earth in less than 15 seconds, punching Lex every time.

That could probably produce a punch more powerful than Supes!

I remember reading/hearing that GL is a military guy, which is why his constructs tended to be offense-based and pretty basic in design.

Compare that to him in Kids Stuff when he doesn't have that mentality.

No, it was animated with a 4:3 aspect ratio. If you want it in widescreen, you have to crop it. Apparently it is a rare case where it was intended to be viewed in either aspect ratio.

That sounds kind of strange. Such a shame too since everything after season 1 was done in widescreen.

This is like Avatar: The Last Airbender all over again.

Flash has control on what speed he uses. He just doesn't go all out since he has something applicable to that World of Cardboard (world of turtles?) speech.

wtf? I never knew there was an entire season after Epilogue dealing with the Legion of Doom.

It's almost entirely missable except for the two Flash-centric episodes and the finale. It's pretty weak, messy, and doesn't really continue any of the storylines built up in the previous season. GL/Hawkgirl is briefly touched on, Bruce/Diana isn't at all. It's so rushed and was really had some D-level stories and charactrs.

Not quite that bad. Just looking at the episode synopsis I remember the following being good:

Flash and Substance
Dead Reckoning
Patriot Act
The Great Brain Robbery
Alive!
Destroyer

Which is about half the season. There were some clangers like "Chaos at the Earth's Core" and the Carter episodes, I agree. Can't remember what I thought about "I Am Legion" or "To Another Shore", might dig out the dvds and give them a rewatch. It also finishes the biggest storyline in DCAU.

Nah, it is pretty bad. It's really, really rushed and they clearly didn't have any plans to bring the show back when they were told "hey, you owe us another 13".

I thought To Another Shore highlights Jon's tendency to be isolated ever since the start of Unlimited. Sadly it also meant him being put in a bus.

nope just the most boring gl ever with girlfriend issues

Towards the end I mean. Of course, not as creative as when he was a kid in Kid's Stuff. Also I think animation budget?

At that time I was still a 'bring Babsgirl back' person.
Liked when Cass came back as Black Bat so I re read alot of stuff and saw the error of my ways.
exact same thing happened to me with Huntress
I was gonna say, I've seen you with a cute Cassandra and Steph avatar!

Yes. No Man's Land is my favorite Batman arc of all time. (And we almost got a cartoon out of it. Almost.) Highlights the strength of the supporting cast so well. People always go on about Batman's rogue gallery, but his supporting cast is easily the best out of any comic and I find them more interesting, personally. Alfred, Dick, Babs, Helena, Tim, Gordon, the newly introduced Cassandra, Steph, Renee, Harvey Dent. Just amazing. It's sad that half of them don't even exist anymore. :/

I wasn't much for Steph as Batgirl at the time either, would have taken Cass over her.
but you don't realize what you have sometimes till its gone.

If they ever come back I guess Steph should be Spoiler again, Cass Black Bat and keep Barbara Batgirl(not a fan of Oracle, and she can't be Batwoman).

Im tired on loner Batman, thats actually why I want a live action tv show like Arrow.
just look at all the supporting characters on that show.

Wait, Braniac was hiding inside Lex since Superman TAS?

So that's why I never found the scene he was refering too. I was looking in the wrong show. I wanted to see that scene so bad.

Been rewatching the show on Netflix, and I wouldn't call Season 1 Batman anything close to "worship." More like "They had no idea what to do with him in a room full of supers." I'm glad they figured it out better in Season 2, though.

The one that bugged me was Martian Manhunter. He seems like some terrible fancharacter, with a ton of powers (and Season 1 was bad about introducing powers he'd use once, then never again), and they left out his one big weakness. Without it, he basically couldn't be beaten, except for the times he was "distracted" or gawking at an incoming attack like an idiot.

Also kind of painful to watch Flash brag about "thinking at the speed of light" and then not be able to swerve to avoid broken terrain fairly far away in that same episode. His reaction times can be pretty terrible.

I'm almost up to Starcrossed, and then it's on to Unlimited.

Like I said, they handled MM poorly until Unlimited... but even then it's because he never get into fights.

As for Flash they really intentionally made him a klutz regarding reaction. He'd be too powerful apparently.

Just started re-watching with some friends and playing a drinking game.. you don't realize how much Superman gets beat up until you take a drink for every time he is knocked down!
