RTTP Last of Us Part 2: I've not been able to enjoy video games since

I liked the environments, but I thought the gameplay was frustrating for the most part. I just tried to rush to next checkpoint and skip combat entirely because I just didn't like it.

The end let me perplex and not really satisfied.

Abby get revenge for her dad by killing Joël.
Ellie wants to get revenge for her "dad" by killing Abby.
Ellie doesn't get her revenge, Abby is getting it.
Somehow the game tells me revenge is bad but Abby is presented like a "good" guy and Ellie the "bad" guy.

I simplify a bit but something is not working I the story at the end for me.

Overall I prefer the tighter experience and story of the first game. The journey of Joël and Ellie and their relation is a wonderful story for me.
I find the second game to be too long for no real reason.

I am currently replaying part I and plan on replaying part 2 just after to get a new look at the story.

Sounds like casual to me, quit the casual world, it's finite, destroys people's tastes, unpredictable, will eventually lead you to less or no choice after the game you've just beaten.

Perfect game, and yes Joel indeed was right.

But nah, your headline is too exaggerated imo, didn't have a game/series that was so good i couldn't enjoy others games afterwards, sure some things stick in your mind like the red wedding, probably would never forget it, but it doesn't affect me to keep playing/watching something less good.

That's like saying they don't like a game for x y z but then will get it on sale for $20. Why?

That's how I ended up buying TLoU1

Joel saving a civilian is out of character as well.

I feel like a lot of people think of Joel as how he was in TLoU1 during the first few hours and refused to watch him change over the course of the game

First, it was the Red Wedding episode in GoT; it was at that point, the most iconic moment in television for me, and I kept searching for another dopamine hit in movies and film. GoT was never able to replicate that moment.

Then, the Last of Us Part 2 story.

It's not a perfect game. There are moments that are forgettable, even poor. But the story...the way the writers manipulate you into feeling visceral hate, and then watching Ellie become the villain, while you wrestle with your own feelings about Abby; how Ellie has to with her own guilt of shunning Joel. It goes beyond the remit of video games, and it's no surprise that I don't think we've had anything come close to it in terms of raw emotional impact.

The Last of Us Part II was definitely a memorable experience, but even at its best, it doesn’t quite match the impact of the Part I Remake.

The game clearly tries to replicate some of the same narrative beats that made the first so powerful—moments of intense emotional weight and character-driven storytelling. Yet, instead of feeling cohesive, these attempts come across as disjointed, and the story loses focus.

By the time it was over, it had dragged on too long.

There is a strong story in there somewhere, but the way it was told didn’t quite do it justice.

For me, the ending was the most satisfying part, as it provided much-needed closure, and should allow any sequel to move away from Ellie and her shit.

That said, you’re right—very few games come close to delivering this level of immersion. Flaws and all, Part II still outshines every other game attempting it.

Lots of other complex media out there. Try that.

That said, for the reasons you stated, it’s why I like Lou2. Some parts are weaker than others, but it does challenge your preconceived notions of narrative in a video game (that’s the key). And plays on the fact that unlike reading, where you are a passive observer, you have control and PLAY through your emotion.

It’s interesting.

By far the greatest game ever made.

Only game to absolutely have the best story, best writing, best combat AND the best graphics in the industry all at once.

GOAT

And no equal since its release. Will only be topped by Part 3
