RTTP: The Evil Within (One) - Mikami's Flawed Masterpiece

You're right, btw,. In his defense, I didn't specify over-the-shoulder. But those are absolutely my jam. It's pretty cool that we got Cronos and (to a lesser extent) Silent Hill f this year, which 2024 Grildon Tundy didn't know about.

Silent Hill f also taught me that I prefer guns to melee in my TP, OTS, survival action horrors.
I'm excited to try F eventually, is it really just pretty much a brawler? Is it more or less brawly than Calisto Protocol? I ask because I think CP was ruined by its combat, and I hope I don't feel that way about F.

TEW1 is one of my favourite survival horror games. Gritty and crazy theme park ride. I only played through TEW2 once… I didn't like the sequel but I respect them for trying at least. Having to make a new game in UE4 from that gritty ID Software engine and going from a quite well paced, sectioned game to a semi-open world game was something totally different. And the characters were re-imagined with new voice actors.

Replayed TEW1 on my PS5 with LG C1 some year ago and probably had C1's Normal Mode motion smoothing on for fake 60fps which has often worked great for me in many 30 fps games (works perfect in Bloodborne, OK in Walking Dead Season 4 but unusable in Mad Max).

Curious to try the updated Epic Games version someday

I killed a boss with melee and enjoyed about a third of the game while hating the rest. I really liked using the guns in Calisto Protocol.
That's fair. The guns are fun, but I feel there's just not enough gunplay in general. I don't even hate the combat honestly, (who doesn't like Punch Out?), but I felt that the style of combat didn't fit the game at all, not even a little, and that it actively undermined the 'horror' throughout the entire game.

As I understand it, F's combat is more Dark Souls than Punch Out, which I feel is more thematically appropriate. Did you enjoy that one?

It is nothing like either as it is very sluggish.
