I guess the back of the card is the intake, while the exhaust is above the die..
But the fan shroud is much longer than the pcb, adding extra length to the card.
why would they bring cool air in from above? it makes more sense to suck cool air in from below where most likely there is lots of fresh air flow. use the top fan to exhaust hot air because ykno....hot air rises. it would make absolutely ZERO sense to try exhaust downwards LOL
also both fans could be intake and just push all that hot air out through the insane heatsink.

thats what i said, the exhuast is above the die, which i guess makes it the 'back'
the 'back' i meant is the behind or underneath of the gpu.

Why would you have a fan exhausting hot GPU air back into the case... This is absolutely fake.try looking again idiot. it's not a blower. there are 2 fans on it. one intake and one exhaust.
maybe if you actually read the article you'd have seen this image

A twin or tripple fan style GPU vents right back into the case too. They always have space between the cosmetic shroud and backplate for the hot air to vent, which goes directly into the case.
Only a blower fan exhausts outside the case because they have the vents built into the rear plate, or a liquid cooled card with an externally mounted radiator like I run.
This is similar to a normal fan style card, but instead of simply venting out the sides it's pulling cool air from below and blowing directly on the GPU, then a second fan is pulling the air out the long end of the card. It's kind of looks like a hybrid of a blower and fan type, where a blower forces air out the rear with a single noisy high speed fan, this would use a push/pull design with quieter fans.
If I had a card like this I'd run a pipe from that exhaust fan to one of the vents in my case with another exhaust fan at the end.

For the latter image, while some hot air will also leave via the vent by the IO, most of that hot air gets sent straight back into your case so you need to ensure you've got decent airflow or it will become a hotbox very quickly.

The backplate is always on top on a GPU. If the added cooling components were placed on top you wouldn't be able to put the card in the top PCIe slot on most mobos. As with any GPU if you want to see the pretty (or tacky) design, you need to get extensions and mount it sideways. But then the fans are right up against the side of the case getting smothered unless you have a really thicc tower.
Glass side panels were the worst idea ever, they look nicer but they are form over function. The side vent used to be the best way to exhaust hot air off the GPU backplate but now we get a window so we can watch everything cook.

I think the idea is that it won't necessarily be a huge step up in "raw" performance but the RT performance increase will be substantial.
My RTX 2080 TI is mounted on its side.
Maybe I'm not seeing what I think I'm seeing - but it appears to me that this design is reversed.

Right, but what I'm wondering if it could be improved further in the 3000 lineup vs the 2000 lineup. Like, could a 3080 get more out of DLSS than a 2080, for example

The problem with a lot of these glass cases now is that they don't have enough mounting points for fans to offset the fact that it's a glass house.
I get wanting to make something that looks good, some of the really well planned builds are like art. I went the opposite direction and went 100% utility.
My case has none of those issues but it's almost 4 cubic feet and fucking ugly. I'll never run out of drive spots as I can hold 18 2.5" SSDs. I even have the radiator for my GPU mounted outside on the rear of the tower because there were so many available mounting locations back there so I have eliminated an entire heat source from inside the case. I've never had my GPU's fan come on once while gaming, and my CPU has never left the 40's despite a pretty big OC. It's so damned ugly though
So the bottom image of the 3080 is the side that would face up once installed directly into a PCIe slotbased on the PCIe connection location and rear plate. If you mounted this card like I assume yours currently is, the top image of the 3080 is what you would see EDIT - (except you'd flip it 180 degrees because the 3080 pictured is upside-down). If the fans work the way I think they do, in an upright orientation this would blow hot exhaust directly at your motherboard. It's definitely different.
The interesting thing is the shape of the PCB on this thing, it appears to have a V cut into it to accommodate the fan design. If this is a legit image I wonder if cards supplied to vendors like MSI and Asus will also have this notch

I'm sure there are things built-in to the 30 series that will be designed to make the best use of DLSS 3.0 and beyond. I imagine eventually the 20 series won't be able to utilize newer versions as efficiently.

The new design is awesome (if true), I get the mixed feelings though as it is different, but I personally feel the curved V-heatsink and fan on either side is awesome. I'm sure there will be some lighting too which could further improve the look in an actual system, I just hope NVIDIA implemented fan-stop option this time.

What pisses me off about modern graphics cards...they keep getting fucking bigger and sucking more juice
I had a full size atx cooler master case and bought a 2080ti....because my hard drives are mounted vertically I could not use the case
Option 2 I bought a case with bottom mounted drives and psu....the card still wedges up against the front case fans meaning I had to remove a fan....great I thought at least it works....nope another problem arose
I had a Corsair 720 psu....was an expensive psu but when the card is under load you can literally hear the psu buzzing....so off to buy a 1200 watt psu
This fixed the noise but the psu would not fit in the bottom of the drive bay so I'm back to looking for a case that meets all the requirements
I had to spend nearly $500 on an evga case
The COVID-19 lockdowns didn't help things as I could not physically sight the parts

If wccftech is the source they've been way off on pretty much everything. I made a list of ways they were wrong last year and how they stealth edit afterwards. Recently they claimed consoles would be Navi 12/Big Navi and Navi 23 would be Big Navi. PS5 ended up tiny and Navi 21 is said to be the 505mm2 Big Navi part. I see in their text article they've already done this again. At least they put *edit* and didn't just stealth update it.

Sounds like if you got the right PSU it would have worked correctly in your old setup. I've had no issues running 2080 Ti in a compact case and my PSU remained silent...

Sounds like you might had bad PSU . You should not need a 1200 watt PSU for 2080 TI 650 wattage is recommend.
You had two options RMA the PSU
Or just buy another PSU with similar wattage.
Trust me if you where overloading the PSU you wouldn't be getting a buzzing sound.

They are good for reporting on known commodities, but not rumors or leaks where they are the source. Their sources are unreliable at best. Because of the stealth editing, I'd rate them below even guys like Moore's Law is Dead who claimed consoles would have equivalent power as a 2080ti. AquariusZi, Komachi, rogame, and VideoCardz are much better sources for leaks.

The Series X manages to fit 56 CU + 8 Renoir Zen 2 cores in 360mm2. Assume you take about 40mm2 for the CPU cores plus 20mm2 for I/O, Cache, SRAM etc. That leaves around 300mm2 for the GPU component.
So 56CU of RDNA 2 takes up roughly 300mm2.
There are 3 known RDNA2 dies:
Navi 21 = 505mm2
Navi 22 = 340mm2
Navi 23 = 241mm2
Quick maths:
Navi 21 = 56cu/300mm2 x 505mm2 = 94.26 CU
Navi 22 = 56cu/300mm2 x 340mm2 = 63.46 CU
Navi 23 = 56cu/300mm2 x 241mm2 = 44.98 CU
Bare in mind my quick maths doesn't account for the die space memory controllers, I/O, etc. take up.
So, based on that theoretically:
Navi 21 = 96CU (6144 stream processors)
Navi 22 = 64CU (4096 sp)
Navi 23 = 44CU (2816 sp)
Take this with a pinch of salt as always. But I think its reasonably well understood that Big Navi (Navi 21) will be at least 80CU (5120sp).
I think AMD will actually try to compete, but lets wait and see what happens.

I'm assuming the 3080 ti will be similar in design. I'm not actually interested in buying the 3080.
Also, somewhat off topic here... but DLSS 2.0 in Control is phenomenal. The previous implementation was blurry, but 2.0 is almost crisp. Bring on DLSS 3.0 and more aggressive ray tracing. The future is now!
