Rumor: AMDs Big Navi performance on par with 3080RTX

I'm really interested in raytracing performance impact between Ampere and Big Navi. As well as how much bigger the difference is with DLSS enabled or with the 3rd iteration. You get what you pay for with Nvidia, because no one else can quite compete with their high end cards. Not to say that is a good thing though...
 
I'm already considering going with AMD for my next CPU, if they keep this shit up maybe my GPU too...
 
Ti cards always have been luxury items anyway and are only interesting if you are doing ray-tracing (need lot of memory, especially for animations).
 
Oh well, thought I was going back to the 7870 days, will Navi at least have a good name? The names of all GPUs have been shit recently.

What happened to names like "Voodoo 2"? :smh:

If true then at least there will be some good competition at the mid-high end of the GPU market which will mean better prices for everyone.

The top end of the market is always in the realm of diminishing returns and when you get a xx80 ti card you are well aware of that. People aren't as price sensitive at that end of the market.
 
Doesn't change anything, AMD doesn't need to be able to compete on every segment including ones where the prices are ridiculous. Nvidia created this segment that includes $999 GPUs, it makes no sense for the vast majority of people anyway and AMD right isn't on it

What really matters is how they'll be able to compete with the likes of a 3060 or 3070 at most, as well as AMD's answers to RT and DLSS.

Well that brings down the hype train a tad, but I'm still very much interested in seeing what they got cooked up for Big Navi. And as stated above, what really matters is how it stacks up to Ray tracing and DLSS. Could sway a lot of people's mind in which direction to go.

"Big NAVI may not be able to match the RTX 2060 after all."

These are bullshit clickbait rumors. Nothing else.

If someone cant enjoy gaming with "non-perfect" parts, then they are not gamers, they are benchmarkers.

Kind of sad how people stare fps and cry if they cant use some ridiculous ultra @4k +100fps settings. Just drop few things and play 60hz, it is 100% enough for 99% of games, only CS and similar games need more and then they use low details anyway.

Real competition is in cheap-average cards and masses just buy nvidia because they are not wise enough to do research

60hz is trash. 144hz is perfect and should be the standard.
 
I'll just wait for 4080ti release/announce. I know, it's a full year away, but 3080 is not interesting to me. Cross gen(PS4 to PS5) card is never a good thing to invest in imo. Too many new technologies can be shown/invented/implemented during this transitional year. Just my opinion.

Too many baseless rumours and speculation to be sure. One day it's big Navi will be 30-40% faster than a 2080ti and now it's this. They've finally for their power draw and price to a competitive level with Navi despite, somewhat overblown, driver issues.

If they solely compete with the 3080 at their highest SKU and below, then as long as power draw and drivers are in good standing I would say that's a massive leap for AMD to have some competition at launch rather a year later.

Fuck me. I was even prepared to go team red if their 3080ti competitor was better priced. I got my 2080Ti used back in the day for 850€ and I'm not ready to pay much more.

If the Big Navi RDNA2 is comparable in stats to the 2080TI, as long as the former is cheaper than the latter I think AMD will still do well with RNDA2.
 
At rtx 3080 level it would still be a huge leap for AMD.

Wonder how they are doing this. They matched intel despite of much less resources and R&D budget. Now that they are on good track, I suspect its just a matter of time they catch up with nvidia.

I suspect they will sell at lower price with some initial driver quibbles as always.

What is the expected 505mm2 RDNA2 chp's performance in terms of 2080Ti + X%? What is the value of X?

Even 250mm2 7nm DUV 5700XT wasn't that far behind 2080Ti, no way 505mm2 EUV chip doesn't beat it.

CPU development is much more demanding (and takes longer) than GPU. The former is nuanced engineering marvel that for decades manages to do things even faster, by anticipating which instruction comes next. Compared to it, GPUs are bland, massively parallel, number crunchers.
With normal R&D budgets, now that they can afford two parallel GPU architectures (compute and gaming) AMD should be able to roll out full competitive GPU stack shortly.

If they price it right and can deliver the goods AMD will crush it. I am team green but I want to see AMD put out the goods as they have been working magic with their CPU lineup.
 
Hopefully both companies' top cards will be comparable to each other, but even if AMD is still behind by one SKU, their effort in this area is really impressive. I want to see proper competition again so the price gouging stops and the R&D investment increases.

There are NO affordable cards to bring 4K60 to the masses. At least DLSS gets us close, but still. Im hoping AMD can disrupt the market like they did with CPUs and drag nvidia kicking and screaming into offering cards with reasonable prices.

With how well the value of the 2080 ti is holding up. It makes sense to get the 3080 ti and sell it for near retail value in a couple years when the 4080 ti rumours start.

That's what I'm expecting, they'll match 2080/Super/Ti, while NV will once again be a class of their own in the top-end segment. AMD had the upper hand for a while with 7nm process and didn't used it wisely, and now NV will join the party and widen the gap once again.

I expect 2080Ti + 30%+ performance, which should not be far from the said card, although NV might choose to name it differently, so that "but ti is untouchable" myth that was created in post maxwell era, still lives..
And it is based on basic math:

2080Ti = 5700XT + 36-46%

5700XT is a 250mm2 36CU chip on inferior node and slower RAM.
We know from Sony that RDNA2 can cross 2Ghz, with reasonable power conssumption so clocks won't be lower.
We know AMD aims at 50% higher perf/w vs existing NAVI card, closing the only remaining gap they had vs NV.
"Big Navi" is expected to be a 505mm2 chip with faster memory and 80CUs.
On top of it, Ampere is 8nm Samsung (which is more of a 10nm on steroids) while AMD enjoys TSMC 7nm.

Things stack in AMD's favor, so I expect a lot of "but DLSS" and more agressive "black screen" trolling.

Pretty much what I expected which is fine. I think both Nvidia and AMD have realized that keeping decent profit margins is more important than grabbing market share at any cost anyway.
 
How is one rumored product supposed to be on par with another rumored product? This is retarded. Now if they said 30% faster than RTX 2080 Ti, that would make sense, but you're (not you OP) compounding rumors which has like zero believability/credibility.

Man 8800 Ultra was such a good GPU. It was first GPU I bought with my own money. 8800U was literally 2x faster than 7800 GTX and I could run games on it without problems for few years. Even crysis 1 was really playable at 30fps (high settings and 1680x1050 resolution). These days Nv arnt building 70-100% faster GPUs each year.
