Rumor: Birdie and Cammy for Street Fighter 5

Since this is the game set most far in the chronology of the games (right?) gimme in spoiler tags who's still alive? Or is it everyone?

I love it.

I can't wait for that Infexious Hugo-like moment...except in SF5 with Birdie. Because we all know he's gonna suck and be super hard to use competitively (he's a Capcom Grappler, after all). But, like Hugo, he's probably going to be SOOO fun to use and SOOO fun to watch.

For real. The hypest moments i've watched is when Snake Eyez is owning top tier characters. Or back in the SSF2T days with Pony .

Well Gouken came back last time and Charlie's a damn Darkstalker so all bets are off. Prepare yourself for Go Hibiki vs. Akuma vs. respirator-bound Gen Day 1 DLC.

So for legal reasons what characters can't be used? Is it just Karin and the original characters in the EX series?

Also if I can continue about the lore of the games (or does this need its own thread?)
In the beginning it was just a fighting tournament right? But since 2 it has had all this evil dictator stuff with Bison etc? (Or am I just bringing the movie into this)

I think cammy/birdie was a tactical leak and they're going for to reveal one more character at E3, who won't be playable in the demo (I'm guessing cammy and birdie will be). SFV seems like it's actually going to end up having a really huge presence at E3, so it's a bit of a wasted opportunity to not have a fan favorite.

I've yet to see anyone provide any actual proof of their not using Karin being for legal reasons, especially when nothing she appeared in even used separate copyrights to indicate that (i.e., Strider in everything he's used for).

'She was originally a character from the 1996 Street Fighter manga Sakura Ganbaru! authored by Masahiko Nakahira' there is no 'real' reason, maybe the original character and Cacpcom are not agreed on something and hold the deal.

Birdie is an excellent character to bring back. He'd be pretty interesting, especially if he went all Ghost Rider with that chain for his V-Trigger.

Cammy I'm not interested in; I don't how she looks and I certainly didn't like how she played in Street Fighter IV.

Really hoping for a new character reveal at E3, more than anything.

Birdie is a more interesting, desirable, and compelling character than either Alex or Urien. Confirmed.

Yes I'm butt hurt

This I've heard about, but I also recall him having become a Capcom employee by the time she was added.

Birdie is far from my most wanted character, but he was fun in the Alpha games and he's a nice change from the usual suspects.

After the poll results they had better put Karin in though. I literally will not buy this game if they pass her over after seeing how well she placed.

YESSS I have my new main already!!!!
But pleaae bring back Hakan at some point

Hakan is one of the few characters they introduced in SF4 I wouldn't mind seeing again (C. Viper and Juri being the other two). I'd rather see Darun Mister over him though.

Personally not really feeling Birdie or Cammy but with how different Bison and Charlie are I'm sure they'll make Cammy different enough and with birdie you can pretty much do whatever he's been gone so long. Hopefully we still get Alex.

They'd be crazy to remove Cammy or Chun Li. I think Juri is also a lock. Waifu team assemble!

Juri did incredibly well on the character popularity poll they did, she should be a lock. Then again Karin really should be too but I doubt we'll see her.

I don't see Alex going over very well in 2015. Unless Capcom thinks the extra exposure from being featured on Tropes vs. Women in video games would be a good thing.

Alex > Birdie >>>>>>>>>> Urien, IMO.

I'd take Birdie over Alex. I don't have much interest in Urien but his playstyle always seemed pretty unique.

From what we know the game is set after SF4 but before SF3, which would explain why Dictator is still here, he and shadaloo are said to have been destroyed prior to SF3 events. The game should be about the fall of Shadaloo and rise the Illuminati (so Urien is likely to be in).
By the way Capcom doesnt really kill anyone (Gen is terminally ill for a long time now), and even if they do, they resurrect them (Gouken, Nash, Dictator).

Alex is an a-hole. To almost everyone.

That's like saying Bison shouldn't be in SF5, because he says mean things. Or that Bison is a representative of Capcom and their official stances on all social issues.

When Capcom's SF blog once talked about Adon's addition to SF4, they were basically like "Yeah, this character isn't very popular with fans, but we wanted him in anyways."

And, even though Adon does absolutely nothing for me, I respected Capcom for that decision. Because, THAT is the kind of Capcom that produces games like SF3...filled with things we didn't initially ask for, but now can't get enough of ("pwease put Alex in SF5, Capcom!"). I mean, it's pretty clear that Capcom is taking a LOT of fan feedback when designing SF5...but, it's also good to see them zag when we demand that they zig.

Birdie is just a tiny, tiny a glimpse at that hardheaded Capcom of old. The Capcom that gave us a thong wearing metal man named Urien when fans were probably asking for Guile, Sagat, or Cammy. The Capcom that gave us Adon instead of Alex in SF4...and, as a result, gave us Gamerbee.

I love it.

Capcom also was hard-headed in including Shuma-Gorath in Marvel 3. Sometimes it's better to listen to fans. Sometimes. :P

One... I don't think 3 success wise... is the best example...

Two... I don't think capcom not listening to people in this day an age... is the best example.

I think it's a magnificent example. SF3 is still played religiously in 2015. Tekken 3, a game which sold massively and was released in the same era, is not played at all.

The fact that people are begging for SF3 characters 16 years later is proof of SF3's lasting impact.

Capcom is very much listening to people in this day and age. Read my entire post.

Street Fighter 3 Third Strike is still played by very hardcore enthusiasts. Overall the SF3 series did not do well and resulted in Street Fighter getting mothballed for years until Ono was able to convince them to let him make a new game.

Tekken 3 came out 2 years before Third Strike and has been replaced by it's sequels. SF3:TS is really only still played because it went in a unique direction the rest of the series did not follow.

Hope Birdie isn't the only grapple character. Still holding strong for Zangief and Alex. Please no one quote me saying "Haggar instead".
