[Rumor] Jez Corden has heard that the next Mass Effect is ditching the open world and going back to the classic format

Good.

BioWare aren't be any means masters of game design or of gameplay mechanics in general, so they're much better off going for a more traditional game structure in order to tell their stories.

As long as they keep Andromeda's combat. It was the best aspect of that game.

Is this before its getting canceled because Dragon Age is having a schizo moment or after.
I mean it's been in various stages of production for damn near 10 years and they've basically lost their crown to BG3. just throw the whole studio away, they're a walking corpse like rare

Jez cordon doesn't know shit.

He literally has a 50/50 chance in being right and considering the last one that was a huge flop its more a 75/25% chance.

Nothing wrong with either format, but if they feel like they can make the better game with a more linear approach then all for it.

Open world hardly ever works. Mainly due to lazy ass devs. This has been the case all the way back to the PS2 era; devs have never been able to touch rockstar when it comes to open world games.

TLDR; If you're not rockstar, fuck off.

That actually sounds like a breath of fresh air with everything going open world these days. Narrow the scope and focus on the important stuff.

My controversial take here: Mass Effect: Andromeda was lightyears better than Mass Effect 1 - I have no idea why this game series is held up in such high regard, shooting is shit, rpg mechanics are lame - it's just mid 6/10 all the way, yet there are people that will try to tell me that it's the best RPG ever. Not even close - BioWare died after Baldur's Gate 2.

And Dragon Age Inquisition is the exact same game (with a fantasy skin) as Andromeda - except it wins Game of the Year??

I'm still not convinced there will be another mass effect game. As much as I want one. Bioware is a walking corpse as others have said.

Wow Rofif with a decent take for once? I don't know if I would say ME2 is best game ever made, but it's 100% one of the best games I've played.
yeah I am also not sure if it's "actually" the best game ever but it's 100% up there depending on the day.

It will suck. It will be woke, and the women will be ugly. Thankfully we still have great versions of the original trilogy.

Just one missed shot.
Trilogy is still the best trilogy in gaming

No because the studio that made it is effectively dead, mass effect does not exist in a vacuum where they pull the developers out of cryogenic sleep just to work on the franchise.

Bioware as we know it has been dead for a long time, it is just anouther EA studio like any other. They won't make a good game because good games are not EA's priority, maximising revenue per purchase is the priority and the game will suffer because of that goal in design.

We didn't even get the new Dragon Age and with Bioware current state I can't be excited for this unfortunately. A shame when they used to be one of my favorite studios.

Out of how many trilogies? I am not sure it is better than the Xenoblade trilogy, but I am not sure that Xenoblade is a trilogy or just 3 connected games.. ME was definitely better than Xenosaga. What other trilogies are there in gaming? Is MGS3 > Peacewalker >MGS5? a trilogy?

my fav trilogies?
Gears trilogy obviously. 2 being the best
Prince of persia (warrior within being the best)
Dark souls (also 2 being my fav).

Consider what games are commonly considered the best today - TLoU, Souls, Zelda, Witcher, etc

I'll take mass effect over any of them
