I just want this to come out so that I can buy the older models for a presumably discounted price
Apple ushers in the era of USB A with the original iMac. Apple kills USB A with the 2016 MacBook Pro.
I really only use my "f-keys" to control music and volume, and occasionally my screen brightness, so this could be interesting. For non-media stuff, holding down the fn key will probably switch it to "proper" f-keys like it does now.F-bar thing sounds really weird. I don't care about social feeds and shit like that so I hope it's not a throwaway gimmick.
Seriously. I accidentally kicked the power cord off my MBP this morning. This is a major regression. No MagSafe is a huge bummer.
Unlike the removal of the 3.5mm jack on the iPhone, this is something I can deal with. I rarely have more than one USB device attached at the same time, so an adaptor would be OK for me until everything moves to USB-C.Multiple USB C ports good.
Zero USB A ports bad. My flash drives weep.
Seriously, just update the damn thing already.Right now I just need a release date. I'm assuming October but who knows at this point.
No mag safe one tor is a bummer. Being able to swap out the biggest point of failure on a power brick for a new cheap USB cable instead of shelling out 85$ is a winner though.

these mock ups of the OLED bar give me some hope of how cool it could be:

Not sure I can see them going to 4K, given battery life considerations. I think you'll see the same resolution but with P3 color space for sure, and 50/50 chance they add in True Tone.Looks neat but i doubt it will look that good.
Also does anyone think the are doing anything with the screen? 4K bump perhaps.

No need to go 4K. The pixels on the current display are small enough it's not needed. If you NEED to you can set the Retina choice to 1920x1200 as long as you have a 15". Which is rendering at the 4K you want with the same exact result.Looks neat but i doubt it will look that good.

Yeah, but it could either A) just show the menu for the corresponding item on the screen when tapped or B) not do anything at all. It's a mockup. But it could still work fine. Spotlight doesn't show a menu anymore anyway so it would still work. WiFi works fine as a status only, the clock also works fine as status only. As does battery. And Notifications would also open fine. The User menu though seems to just be status, but I expect it's just because it's a quick mockup. Apple wouldn't make it look like that unless there was a good reason to. I mean the actual Menu Bar still exists. This isn't replacing it. Just showing select status items. (And of course probably won't even be how the final product looks.)It seems cool until you realize that you need menu bar icons to be clickable. A lot of usability from menu bar icons come from the submenus they have when clicked.

Replacing function keys? Why

Hmm should I wait before I buy a new MacBook Pro? Or should I just get one now due to student sales?i know this is a huge fucking stretch but I was wondering if anyone have any ideas about the pricing? Like compare to the last time when new MacBooks were release?
They are replacing the power button with a TouchID sensor. It can still act as a power button.
This isn't an answer to his question.
Later prob. I can see it launching alongside Sierra.so is he saying they'll be another event, or they'll just be released later?
Both physical function keys and a touch strip? Not if they wanted to reduce the footprint of the device.I have, but can they not have both?
How is it not? The strip can still have the function keys. This isn't an answer to his question.
I wonder if we're also getting a full iMac design revision anytime soon.
How is it not? The strip can still have the function keys.
There's plenty of space to have both and reduce the footprint, also the screen size is the primary reason of the footprint size not what is on the bottom part of the notebook. Both physical function keys and a touch strip? Not if they wanted to reduce the footprint of the device.
Man i sure can't wait to have burnt-in icons and menu on a keyboard, oled sure is the best technology for a thing that have to be on as long as the computer is on! No real tactile feedback too! Such great innovation!...Why is anyone excited about a OLED touch strip? Is the change from superior physical buttons to a less optimal solution such a big thing?

Then what the hell are they waiting on to reveal it ? This is getting ridiculous as fuck.

How? Having both while reducing the footprint would require reducing the size of the keyboard, palm rest, or trackpad. Pass to any of those.I what way "the power button will have Touch ID" is a response to "why not both the function keys and the oled strip?"? In what way your answer clears his doubts on why bot thing can't coexist?

That's not the 2015 pro. Look at the 13" and consider again the sacrifices I said I don't want.Have you ever seen a MBP?
