(Rumor) Returnal on PC has sold 162k lifetime

I know. But they are using the spurious claim of PC/Steam being a "dead platform" with no actual customers as an excuse to gloat and to fuel their platform wars ("PLS SONY, DON'T BOTHER ANYMORE, THEY CAN'T APPRECIATE HOW GOOD YOU ARE" etc).
yeah, it's a mutual support group for unhinged weirdos. there's no question that Steam has a massive addressable audience, and that Sony wants to reach them badly.

Albeit i believe this figure might be correct, i dont think this leak is from a genuine leaker.

Good news. Now Sony can cancel the wrong "multiplatform" policy,
referring to the greed pc-minorities.

Sony warriors banned from here made their own little playground.

Good for them, but what the fuck is happening with all this nonsense sourced from them lately, lol.

Bryank sees how many people are posting rumors about Xbox putting games on PS5 and Switch 2 and he thinks this is a good way to try and get some site traffic since they post all their threads on twitter.

Icon Era are the biggest PC haters. I'm not taking any information from them seriously until I hear from Sony officially I will believe it.

Love this game, its excellent through and through, great gameplay, exploration and feels great to control, also the challenge is hard but fair, the atmosphere is amazing, i totally love it, pretty underrated.
Hell yeah. One of my all time favourite modern games.

Returnal was great. I have the PS5 version and it's super fun. Hard though, especially for a loser like myself.

Ah yes, icon era. Its like going to the beach there, entertaining sights and in a few minutes my glasses get cloudy from all the salt in the air.

Returnal is one of the best games this generation. It's one of those special games you get all jittery from. You know, when you get that adrenaline and excitement running through your body playing a new fresh and cool IP. It's a game that has that special whiff of mystery about it that you just want to unravel. It's one of those magical moments when early into the new generation you're telling yourself that "finally, the new generation is about to begin."

And then it flops and sells like shit. Sony goes off the rails and chases the GaaS dream. Everything crumbles right before your eyes. What a fucked up timeline we're in. Returnal should've been a mega hit. Instead it got relegated to being an obscure, hidden gem that only a select few players appreciate. Fuck this world.

Respectable.. outsold one of the best games ever.
Panzer Dragoon Saga

I do find it hilarious that no matter what Sony puts out on PC, it sells like dogshit. Uncharted and Spiderman underperformed? Ok, no one cares about action adventure games on PC. TLOU underperformed. Ok, survival horror genre is pretty big on PC, no? I guess not. Concord would be huge because well they like hero shooters. Nope. Surely, a rouge like shooter would be big since that genre literally was made popular on steam. a Big NOPE.

GoT is literally their best single player game at 78k concurrent users. Starfield was said to have underperformed and it topped 250k users iirc.

I think its time sony just stop pandering to this audience. they dont want to fuck you man. go dance with the one who brought you. 4 years of Nixxes. Imagine how many PS4 and PS3 games they couldve ported to PS5 in that time. Bloodborne, DriveClub, SOTC, Motorstorm, KZ, Resistance, The Order.
All of this for devaluing their exclusives vault. Not worth it. Pc players just like gaas.

But is it though? Saw tons of criticism for it, like poorly designed progression mechanics and the random levels feeling too repetitive.

The general consesus seem to be this should've been a normal TPS and not a roguelike.

Considering this, the price tag and the fact there are numerous other cheaper roguelites or similar that are considered better, i'd not be at all surprised if this underperformed.

yikes bad business for Sony, i think Sony should stick with exclusive.

PC gamers prefers GaaS , indie games and their favorite early access.

I can understand not liking the roguelike aspect of Returnal, but then you just want a different game completely. It's a randomly generated game. Play Control if you want a linear cinematic TPS.

But that is the problem, the roguelite aspect of it being bad will push away that public, not to mention the price tag considering these kinds of games are usually cheap.

Pc gamers are a weird bunch and dont have any taste. The real issue is that they'll come up with any excuse to justfiy why one of the best games this generation sold like shit to deny the piracy issues for Sony exclusives. Spiderman 2 on Pc has more people seeding its illegal download than its peak player count on Steam, lol. Its like they see Sony as a threat to Valve.

It has a character reset mid-way through for narrative purposes which feels at odd with its' rogue lite mechanics. The price tag has always felt a little steep but they did add on content like a co-op after it initially launched so maybe it makes the asking price more palatable.

It's a fantastic game.
Is just too difficult for some people.
Probably best Sony game on ps5

Didn't it sell like 560k on PS5? You guys dropped the ball too. Clearly Sony fans don't want single player games and prefer GaaS. Sony UNDERSTOOD that by looking at their own stats too and how many fucking GAAS games they have in pipeline even after all cancellations?

afraid of broadening your limited horizons ?
You know there is also tons of cool discords and other places that discuss games?
There was a time users were banned for bullshit, so of course they created their own forums lol. what's so strange?
Bryan got banned for making fun of obvious xbots. You probably remember....
adamsapple adamsapple was banned on there.

There are similar cheaper games that came with co-op from the get go and also regularly add content, so i dont think thats nearly enough

Two SINGLE PLAYER games* which have stayed in the Steam top 10 for years have no DRM at all. There's nothing special about Playstation games to make them un-PC or more vulnerable to copyright infringers.

*Baldurs Gate 3 and Cyberpunk 2077

Value is in the eye of the beholder. I'm not the biggest Returnal fan as I don't think it works all that well as a rogue lite (not that I'm in love with that genre either) but given Housemarque's roots, you'll probably not find a better controlling action focused rogue lite than Returnal so it does bring that to the table.

Gee.. I wonder how those dipshits came to that conclusion? Insider leaks they're especially privy to?

Nope. Just SteamDB + pick the lowest estimated sales figure (post thread + tweet) = engagement

Those clowns are so full of shit. I'm going to be so happy when Sony announces Day and Date on their biggest games :messenger_grinning_smiling:

Maybe, but then again other popular games that are similar to this one like Risk of Rain 2 and Deep Rock Galactic control and play very well on top of doing the other things right and being cheaper. I think its natural more people will look at those and choose them over something like Returnal, housemarque pedigree also isn't really all that spread to begin with.

Just explaining why i dont think its all that strange for this to underperform. To begin with, roguelites are popular but only from the perspective of low-mid-budget dev.

thats 2021 figure, and still way more than steam figures that for sure haha

*A figure from the biggest Sony fan seething because of PC ports. The dude was a literal meme around here because of that.

Huge grain of salt

He picked the lowest player count estimation from that page 😂

Such a source

Just wait till PSU.com writes an article saying 'a close source to the admin of icon-era has revealed' and it gets posted here again 🤭

3. Horizon MP, FairGames mp and Marathon.

Out of the 12 games they said would come out, 9 were cancelled. 1 released.

1- factions. Canceled
2- Spider-Man. Canceled
3. Concord. Cancelled. Studio shutdown
4. Twisted metal. Canceled
5. Bluepoint gow mp. Canceled
6. Bend game. Canceled
7. Bungie's payback canceled
8. Deviation games. Canceled. Studio shutdown.
9. Horizon mp. Still in dev
10. Marathon. Still in dev
11. Helldivers. Released
12. London studios new gaas game. Studio shut down.

Those top 10 played lists dont mean much. It's gaas today. it was sports games with CoD and GTA last gen few gens. Playstation single player games do extremely well at retail. With some rare exceptions like Returnal which did flop.

Just a few weeks ago

6 gaas games

eh. never heard of gummy bears and this jason blundell game. probably the same game. this studio hasnt even been announced yet. they will likely be cancelled and shutdown.

media molecule isnt making a gaas game. their games have always been about create/share/play. i think they came up with the tag line. its probably dreams but with robolox like structure to make it easier for kids to create and find games.

its clear from latest cancelations that sony is moving away from gaas, instead of doubling down on it.

He is bullshitting. Got the numbers from https://gamalytic.com/game/1649240

Plus he is not even looking at the right number. Fucking idiot.
Yep, and now he's trying to deny it after being called out:

"Our numbers are internal". Sure they are, dumbass. They just happen to match an already existing source exactly. Pure coincidence. Nothing to see here at all.

This is what happens when Sony spends a generation wasting time on live service and releasing almost nothing but ports or remasters. These loser fanboys who still think we're living in the SNES vs. Genesis era lose all touch with reality.

How m any $Billions lost?

This is a huge blow for the rest of the generation. Even moving away from it, it takes a long ass time to make a game.

Billions for sure. GaaS was set to be 60% of their overall first party budget so whatever their yearly budget to fund 20 studios times 5 years. And yes, they are fucked for at least the next half a decade. People are in denial and dont understand what 9 out of 12 cancellations really means. Not to mention, the 5 years lost in development time at the studios that did survive the purge.

i-worry-people-are-misunderstanding-sonys-plan-for-future-v0-i921qt30aacb1.jpg

I am simply pointing out that they seem to have finally abandoned their gaas quest and are likely going back to their strengths. the studio closures, the gaas cancellations, firing (forced retirement) of Jimbo and Herman's demotion all point to this. I could be wrong but i am just going by what they have done recently. I wouldnt be surprised if they sell Bungie next and cancel FairGames.

they have ghosts and death stranding 2 this year. wolverine and intergallactic next year. then Cory's new IP and Horizon for 2027. so 2 a year. pretty lame, but the worst is yet to come after that when ps6 launches with no first party next gen exclusives, thats what happens when you go full retard and spend 60% of your budget on gaas trash.
