WB seriously needs to let Ayer release his cut on blu-ray.
"If I were to die tomorrow"? Hoooooly shit dude, you're never going to be Heath Ledger, get that fucking chip off your shoulder.
This is the same studio that let Miller cook with Fury Road for an obscene amount of money and an absurd amount of time
WB are a director focused studio, moreso than any out there, but they're freaking out with DC stuff in particular and I'm not sure why

Also oh my god Fury v Air Bud is the most confusing movie battle of all time
That would require WB to get Paul Dini to help them which Dini has repeatedly said he has no interest in writing movies.I really don't understand why WB/DC are having so much trouble here. Emulate the animated series in live action.
^ Not exactly a good look.

because Iron man movies are making more money than Batman and Superman movies, and that's fucking insane
also they don't have that much else going on, while Disney is fucking killing it with everything they attempt pretty much
They have zero confidence in what they are doing with them, obviously.
And I don't disagree for WB overall, but in this case they are really crapping on their talent then.
You don't have to choose
The hero you deserve.Yo they gotta chill, when WB gets cooking they make the best films
What the fuck is that
Can I just say that Boomerang's (light-hearted? mean?) racist and sexist jab towards Katana maybe the reason it didn't get released in China.
It's always confused me why they'd hire a R-rated director to make a PG-13 film.It seems like the cast all wanted this to be R rated, really surprised it wasn't, especially since all of Ayer's films are R rated.

Just seems like an odd approach- these films are being neutered creatively before they even start filming.Zack Snyder
David Ayer
Patty Jenkins
James Wan
Ben Affleck
All of them are actually mainly R rated directors.

Ayer said multiple times now the theatrical cut is his cut.
WB may release their cut of it.

Obligatory
Katana is Japanese so geopolitically Chinese folks wouldn't mind.
The animated DC universe took almost a decade worth of planning. WB wants their universe next year. It's not that simple.OMG RLM just compared Jared Leto to Marilyn Manson in his tainted love video....
Nailed it.
They could adapt the style. They have enough material at this point.
I think that's the problem with this whole universe. The animated DC universe took almost a decade worth of planning. WB wants their universe next year. It's not that simple.
Of course but the problem is the movie that hit theaters occurred because according to all reports the initial cut bombed with test audiences. Initial teases of the movie hinted at a twisted but light hearted affair. Apparently movie was overly dark and little funny and people hated it.People saying all these cut and re-arranged scenes wouldn't have saved the movie are seriously underestimating the power of film editing. Of course, it could have still been bad. But a piss poor edit could make a good movie 26% easily.
What would Slipknot being a serial rapist have added to the film?

They tested a completely different cut that was full of funny and it did amazing with test audiences. So WB decided to try and merge the two cuts into a Frankenstein of funny and dark. I suspect if they had just stuck to the funny cut it would have still been a disaster because people are upset the dark stuff is what is missing
Terrible reviews are one incentive. Bad reviews are what shook them to edit the film so I'm sure it'll shake them again.Good thing fans turned up en masse despite terrible reviews ahead of time. Now the studio will have no incentive to really change. Assuming anything is true, obviously.

I think it would've done better critically but I'd definitely be disappointed personally. I like the idea of villains being realistically bad people, not just people that are obsessed with power and I think it would be a milestone to showcase an abusive relationship between Harley and the joker and that takes balls along with making one of your characters a rapist. Because no one else wouldve done it and it rather something try to be ambitious and have variety then just be same old. It could've been a great film on its own accord but maybe disappointed people that expected something different.
It probably would've actually. You guys are being a little ridiculous. Especially when a huge issue was the shitty editing and missing parts which surprise, ruins a movie. Wouldn't have been perfect but it would be a whole lot better.
I'm not going to pretend that DC films don't have a slew of problems but I feel like this something that definitely happens. People have a certain expectation of what a superhero movie "should be" and get upset when it doesn't conform to that idea and instead we should branch out and look at what they could be, which I think DC is trying but then you have things like this happen and it only takes away peoples trust.I think Studios need to work closer with the filmmakers on trailers etc. A lot of this comes down to giving the wrong impression and then having to scramble to meet expectations. If they hadn't led people to believe it would be more lighthearted it could have likely stayed darker.
Though in some ways I wonder how much of the marvel effect is happening. Marvel has made lighter hearted fare with some tinges of darkness here and there super popular. So are general audience really wanting to go in and see dark and grim comic movies now?
I don't understand this complaint. The OP talks about scenes that do just that, that were later removed and yet somehow it's not the issue. I don't get it?The editing was the most excruciating thing about the movie for me, and I had to get Tylenol right after the movie stopped. But with those scenes or at least without the "style" of editing, the movie would only have gone from unbearable to just bad. The core problem with Suicide Squad comes from a script that should have more self-contained and focused on fleshing out the characters and making the drama/relationships between them the story.

Sorry but Joel Kinnaman as Rick was a terrible choice. He simply was not believable as an authoritative force capable of wrangling the SS. He felt like the substitute teacher no one respected and pranked constantly.1.agreed
2.proper edit wouldve
3.maybe
4.agreed
5.what
I think seeing the team together with the writing really demonstrated how little chemistry and charisma this cast had together, something no one could really tell from the trailer. It certainly wasn't a mistake from day one, and had more things working for it as general audiences should be familiar with characters like Joker and Harley. You make it sound like this was a mistake since day one. All the pieces were there for something decent.
What would they even be reacting to with Wonder Woman? The complaints about Suicide Squad's editing? That would require them to stay their asses out of the editing room and they've proven they ain't about to do that. The problem as somebody once said, is that this entire universe is reactionary.
Man of Steel was retroactively turned into the first movie in the DCEU as a reaction to Mahvel's success.
BvS's plot is a reaction to people complaining about Man of Steel's wanton destruction.
Justice League was made more cheery as a reaction to people complaining about BvS being too dreary.
Theatrical cut of Suicide Squad is also the direct result of WB changing gears in reaction to the backlash BvS received.
Will Wonder Woman be a reaction to a reaction of a reaction?
Then again, the REAL problem is that Zack Snyder has been spearheading the entire shitshow.
Unfortunately I don't think there will be one.Very eager to see how they handle an "ultimate" cut.
Will it be more like the director's original version or will it be even further altered by content from the reshoots? Would be neat if they let us see more than one cut.

Jared Leto's Joker I really wanted to work, but at the end of the day he simply milked the scene too far or lacked enough subtlety. It all felt really try-hard "loooOok how cRAaaazeeee I ammmm!". He's about as tolerable in that role to me as Jessie Eisenberg was as Lex, which is not very. They're practically on the same shade of quirk on a sample paint pallet at Home Depot.
The rest of the casting ranges from alright (Will Smith just being Will Smith, to forgettable, like Captain Boomerang (you could literally edit out of the film and nothing would change)
Viola Davis is arguably the only character worth a damn in this film. Best cast eole by far and it's not even close.
