This thread comes at a perfect time to squash enthusiasm for Nintendo's Sept 13th Wii-U public unveiling conference
Its not true and that chart is hella mis-leading. Nintendo did little for the overall industry as a whole...

The lack of elaboration coupled with the dots at the end of your statement make your stance seem weak. Just for future purposes.

I see this complaint all of the time and feel like I'm missing something here. Can't you just do hdmi to your tv then use optical from your tv to feed the channel to your system? That's what my family does for their Sound system.
I hope this is sarcasm. Its not true and that chart is hella mis-leading. Nintendo did little for the overall industry as a whole...
Heres some specs you guys will enjoy:
If the Wii U was identical power-wise to the original Wii, but with an HDMI port, had the same online as the original Wii, and still used motion plus (no gamepad), id still pay 300 bucks for it no problem. As long as they are going to make more first party Nintendo games and the occasional weird game like Muramasa etc, id pay whatever, even with little to no increase in power. Even with no upgrade to online. Just HDMI and the promise of more games is good enough for me.
So for me, anything above a standard Wii with an HDMI tacked on is beyond good enough.
This is the power of first party Nintendo games.
Would you like to provide actual points of data or articles that provide their own data to disprove this?

I'm going to be honest, while I feel these specs are laughably poor, and the wii u will not be the runaway success that that wii was, I think this is smart long term thinking by Nintendo.
They will be profitable from day one and will almost definitely keep the company and it's IP's on a stable path all the way to the wii U's successor.
Im almost certain the PS4 will be Sonys last console, and I'm pretty convinced that post-Durango, games will only be a small part of future Microsoft consoles.
I also believe that the adoption of more off shelf PC parts in consoles will eventually push the market and AAA Development more towards the PC, especially with the adoption of ouya-like devices for the casuals.
All in all, I honestly think nintendo will be the last man standing in the traditional console space, but it will be a much much smaller market in 6 years time.
Nintendo might seem like they are only thinking of today, but they may very well be thinking much further ahead than anyone else.

The vast majority of TVs will only output stereo when doing this.
I like "Espresso" as a codename for Project Cafe but GPU7 is so meh
and this is the only interesting parts of the whole list of bits

And this is just US. The implication that the industry would somehow be on life support without the Wii is just, well......insane.
It wasnt last year or in the last quarter. Its one of their best sectors though which just shows how much shit they are inI don't really see how PS4 will be Sony's last console. Even if they run into more financial trouble they have assets they can sell off right? Playstation is profitable for them right now.
This is true. How do you know this?
If they're going to sell the thing at $250, I can't see how they will have much margin, if any.
Weak? What in the hell are you going on about. This is an objective conversation. There's right and wrong. Black and white...
Frankly, I think the 1GB of RAM is disappointing but workable with 2GB being ideal, but combined with the CPU power, it's going to be crushing. GPU will probably be good enough, but I think we all expected some compromises there for the form factor since day 1.
3DS security is borderline insane though.Particularly impressive as 3DS is region-locked.
People still bitching Nintendo isn't learning from their mistakes and go out guns blazing in the tech race. It may be everyone else isn't learning. The often more successful platforms aren't the most cutting edge techwise in every department... it's an unnecessary cost risk these days and mainstream public isn't that smart, nor do they care about having the absolute best of something... and in the current tech climate of what is on-top, it is probably more important than ever to not spend so much on home console systems when everything is going portable these days.
fwiw, there's a difference between guns blazing and maybe just shooting your guns a little bit.
I'm not sure how much the form factor actually affected what they wanted under the hood; Nintendo's been trying to keep a tight lid on just how big the system is, but I've seen them in person and they are very surprisingly long, to the point where I think some concerns about how they'll fit into home theater setups are warranted.
What does GPU7 even mean? I would get it if it were GPU6 for Nintendo's 6th home console, but I don't get the 7.

You seemed to have missed the point, again. They haven't done anything more than half-assed attempts at accessories to cash in on some of that market, hardly dying. They want those users but are only wanting to go an arms length to get them. You won't see a "wii" from MS or Sony this coming generation. Sorry.Oh please. Sony and Microsoft would die for those audiences -- it isn't that they don't want them, it's that they can't get them.
The suggestion that Sony is purposefully limiting themselves to a small, unprofitable subsection of gamers is absurd.
You cannot talk about the industry without talking about iOS and Facebook anymore. I understand that the world is nicer if we can just talk about the home consoles you happen to personally care about -- and in game discussion threads, you can -- but any industry analysis is pathetically myopic without handhelds, mobile platforms, and F2P/browser gaming included at this point.
The age when we could discuss the "gaming industry" and implicitly only be talking about home consoles is long since passed. If you'd like to remain blindered, you'll have to talk to someone else.
fwiw, there's a difference between guns blazing and maybe just shooting your guns a little bit.
So if I want it to play games online with it, 3 USB ports since 1 of them will be taken with the ethernet adapter. Thanks N.
High Definition is the best contribution to the overall gaming industry
Who cares about a new playing style and introducing shitloads of people who never played games before to them and expanding the market
Don't worry they will come in with guns blazing.
water guns
College dorm wifi is unbearable.I game over a 802.11N connection with no problems whatsoever. Matter of fact, I'll be playing Guild Wars 2 on my laptop, my son will be playing COD on the XBox and the wife will be streaming whatever the hell she streams with no hiccups. Xbox is hooked to an 802.11N bridge and everything else is pure wireless.
Did you actually read the article aside from the title? Because the content doesn't support your side of the argument at all.

Its not about limiting yourself at all, its knowing who your target audience is.There is nothing unprofitable about the main sector Sony or MS is going after. Again profit is dependent on the manufacturer and what they put in there products. Its Sony's own fault that they weren't able to cash-in say like the 360 has.
Nobody said anything about excluding FB/IOS or whoever.
Maybe im just "myopic" but I can easily discern between the CoD player who buys a 360/PS3, the Mother who buys her child a Wii, the 17 year old girl who is all about Farmville, etc. Its different markets in one industry, not that hard a concept to grasp.
College dorm wifi is unbearable.
Yeah I did. The Industry is a lot bigger than Nintendo, and alot of third parties wouldn't particularly miss them in an absence.
Seriously, what do you think the Wii/DS did for IW and COD? Or EA and Madden? Or RS and GTAIV?
But the important question is: Will it have F-Zero?
