Russia is getting ready to test this new nuclear missile (also called flying Chernobyl) (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/9M730_Burevestnik (nato SSC-X-9 Skyfall) Last test was a failure and killed few scientists. This is basicly a missile that even its flight causes radioactive waste.
On 9 August 2019, the Russian nuclear energy agency Rosatom confirmed a release of radioactivity at the State Central Navy Testing Range at Nyonoksa near Severodvinsk in northern Russia and stated it was linked to an accident involving the test of an "isotope power source for a liquid-fuelled rocket engine".[18][19] Five weapons scientists were killed in the accident.[20] Nonproliferation expert Jeffrey Lewis and Federation of American Scientists fellow Ankit Panda suspect the incident resulted from a test of the Burevestnik cruise missile.[21] However, other arms control experts disputed the assertions: Ian Williams of the Center for Strategic and International Studies and James Acton of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace expressed skepticism over Moscow's financial and technical capabilities to field the weapon,[22] while Michael Kofman of the Wilson Center concluded that the explosion was probably not related to Burevestnik but instead to the testing of another military platform.[23]
According to CNBC, the explosion occurred during an attempt to recover a missile from the seabed which was lost during a previously failed test.[24] On 10 October, Thomas DiNanno, member of the United States delegation to the United Nations General Assembly First Committee, stated that the "August 8th 'Skyfall' incident [...] was the result of a nuclear reaction that occurred during the recovery of a Russian nuclear-powered cruise missile", which "remained on the bed of the White Sea since its failed test early last year".[25]
On 26 August, Aleksei Karpov, Russia's envoy to international organizations in Vienna, stated that the accident was linked to the development of weapons which Russia had to begin creating as "one of the tit-for-tat measures in the wake of the United States' withdrawal from the Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty".[26]
On 21 November, at the ceremony of presentation of posthumous awards to the dead men's families, Vladimir Putin stated that the scientists killed in the August 8th explosion had been testing an “unparalleled” weapon: “We are talking about the most advanced and unparalleled technical ideas and solutions about weapons design to ensure Russia’s sovereignty and security for decades to come". He also noted that the "weapon is to be perfected regardless of anything".

Of course the world would go on. That's why I said "the world as we know it". The moment that any nation uses nuclear weapons in the modern era in anger against another country daily life and society around the world as we know it would be changed forever. It would make the international security reaction to 9/11 look like nothing.
There would be no unfucking of that situation. Not in our lifetimes anyway.

With regards to the use of a tactical nuclear weapons in Ukraine. If Putin was to do that he would burn the last bridge with any allies Russia still has. The Chinese certainly will not appreciate Putin lobbing nukes around and Russia needs China. Literally no country on this planet (even the shitty horrible dictator like ones) wants to see nuclear weapons "normalised" as a tool of war which is what using nukes in Ukraine would lead too. Now I don't believe that the use of tactical nukes in Ukraine will ultimately lead to the west lobbing nukes at Russia and Russia replying in kind.
However you can bet brighter minds than ours have formulated a necessary response with the goal of showing any country that the use of Nuclear weapons be they low yield or whatever is a completely unacceptable, immoral and a barbaric act and the price for using them will out way any "tactical" advantage. Naturally we won't know what the response is and the rest of the world (this is no longer just a Western problem) are purposely keeping what their response would be as "vague" as possible. The main reason is so that we do not give Russia a chance to do a cost/benefit analysis on whether using Nukes would be acceptable

I do think there is a small possibility he could say fuck it "Nukes" (Putler: if it's me, then I do not go alone, "I am Ruzzia"). No one thought he would be so stupid to make war in these times, but he did. I could not be surprised that as soon as he gets more cornered tells China to "help me" or you get nuked too. Still, China is losing a lot with this war, NATO = stronger, Taiwan = stronger, and countries allied to pushing economically to anyone who starts this type of shit.
China depends too much on others economically, one bad move and it goes Kaboom. The Chinese people can revolt if things go sour, or at least I believe so.

Well, he’s not going to, but the response would likely be instantaneous targeting of Russian military installations across the country from US cruise missiles. In about an hour, every single one of them would be pounded into oblivion. Those installations would include any one Putin may be in, in order to kill him, and his political infrastructure.
World War 3 would not happen, however. Russia clearly do not have the capability to stand up to the US. The last six months have proved this. It’d be incredibly one sided, absolutely awful, and entirely necessary.

Russia did it once already after the fall of the USSR. The successor governments or tribes would have a vested interest in controlling nuclear stockpiles.

I believe the USSR is the only nuclear power which ever collapsed to such a degree. North Korea is the only real candidate and I think either RoK or PRC would step in to take custody during such an event.

Very important observation. I'm sure plans are in place to do the best job of outfitting Ukrainian soldiers with winter gear and will still be motivated. Russians will be freezing, starving, unmotivated and only wanting to go home. The people of those occupied territories will be kicked out of their homes and will have a very difficult time also.

And got himself and his family killed for it.
