It's live on Steam. Remote downloading right now.

Not sure if I will have time to try it out though, looking forward to reading the opinions here.

I’m excited to play this eventually but still haven’t played the original trilogy which I’d like to go through first. I was waiting on the next gen patch but at this point it might be a while before that happens. Pretty sure the update was supposed to be released this past summer but it never happened and they never gave an update, which is understandable given their situation. Might just play them now over the next few weeks while they fix the issues with this one.
The Trilogy on console is fine as is. Not sure if it needed a next gen patch but its 60fps and runs well.

Having said that, there is a risk of burnout if you play all three in a row in close proximity, particularly the first two as they take place in roughly the same areas. Then with Stalker 2 reusing some of the same areas as well, it'd be smarter to stagger playthroughs of them.

Wow, the game sounds straight up broken.

  • Performance is terrible, even with a 4090 using DLSS Performance
  • Awful texture pop-in.warping
  • Lighting is regularly busted
  • Reflections are glitchy
  • Light sources often don't work correctly (many areas that are clearly supposed to be properly lit are just black as if there's no light on)
  • NPCs and objects often glitch and just float in mid-air
  • UI elements flicker in and out for no apparent reason
  • NPCs will regularly stand on top of eachother during cutscenes
  • Weapon audio cuts out regularly and just straight up doesn't make any sound
  • Positional audio is completely borked and is completely inaccurate
  • Enemy AI is poor
  • When you complete an objective, it oftentimes won't update in the UI so you are unable to see that it's actually been completed
  • Map markers are regularly inaccurate (such as where stashes are, etc..), leading you to completely inaccurate locations
  • Stealth is totally busted; enemies can see you through walls

jesus... Im gonna try it on game pass today, but if its that bad im just gonna wait. I have other games to play anyway

Completely unacceptable performance. No thanks, fix your shit.

Edit: Ehhh... on second thought, UE5 open world at 4K... this is about what I should have expected. 4K just kills every card.

This is not a good look. Releasing an statement at launch day warning people that their game is buggy does not sit well with me to be honest
Seems to be a 'theme' a lot of companies are now taking..

Well that don't look good. The letters from the 'other' companies were never attached to good products in the long run

..And MS seemed to be creeping around GSC like a weird dirty uncle

Have GSC been 'indoctrinated' somehow with MS bullshit?

Hrrrm.

Really interested in hearing people's impressions of how buggy the patched release version is compared to the review code

Almost there, currently compiling shaders...I assume the day one patch was included bc I'm not seeing anything else in the downloads section.

Just drama.. don't read too much into it, not needed massage but just lets players know they intend to fix whatever issues in the upcoming weeks. no big deal seems to me.

At least they released a statement this time. Don't think they did for any other Stalker game.

I'm still excited to play this, but I wonder what is considered a "gold" state for them to release the game in such a state. So many bugs...
But what I'm truly worried about is A-life 2.0, I've read some concerning impressions about the AI behaviour... I hope they're just exaggerations and if they're not, I hope it's just bugs and the AI is actually more "I" than "A" instead of the other way around.

Exactly what I said about performance in response to "low" system requirements.... IT WILL be very broken and demanding lol.
The scores actually seem quite lenient because of whole war thing. Fair enough. These guys don't deserve additional bashing right now. They could use some win

I don't know much about the Stalker games but I love the Metro series.

Does this sequel even have a storyline? Gone through googling and I couldn't find a single thing about the plot of this game.
It does, it unveils itself organically and it's absolutely insane. Highly recommend reading or listening to an audiobook of roadside picnic and watching the movie, I did both after playing the original years ago (almost 20 JESUS CHRIST AHHHHHHHHHHHH) and wish it was reversed, it recontextualised the entire series for me.

HDR on this game is NUTS. The soft lightning of the starting flashlight reveals terrain bit by bit as you step forward.

Later I will tweak, but Series X Quality isn't your box full of 'anomalies'.

Do yourself a favor and play with a good set of headphones, you'll love it and shit your Cheeki Breekis.
