You know, I'll give Tux his fair share of shit. But he took up the MANtle and went for it by punching Zoicite's Shield ala Ash vs Mewtwo. Golf Claps all around there.

I haven't seen the Sailor V episode in a while, but was there anything there that would indicate WHY they left it out in the dub? I can't think of a good reason, myself from what I remember of it.

British police uniform and shots of guns? Big plot point being Venus faking her own death? They cut plenty of episodes for less.

The Sailor V comic is worth reading. Also, the live-action series gives us a Minako origin story too ("PGSM Act Zero"). As for why Minako is important, in the manga/live-action
Minako is the facade princess so the enemies target her and not Usagi
, but the first anime removed that storyline.

Also Zoe where you at?

That's kind of a big deal to leave out of the first anime, no?

Currently gorging at the Bacchanal! Taking a breather right now though.

I think they failed in the execution of the fight again. It was fine with Tux being absolutely powerless, but instead they let Zoisite just stand around as he made a confession that would have worked better in the next episode.

They could have thrown in something about Zoisite recognizing him (especially with the speculation from the last episode), but I guess that didn't occur to them.

Ok, probably the guns then. I could see them altering the fake the death thing, somehow (they fused the finale of Classic into one ep after all to cover up the deaths!) I just find it weird how episodes like that were cut, but a certain chocolate parfait episode was left in tact >_>

Didn't even notice Artemis.

The first anime also took out the subplot of
the Shitennou actually being Mamoru's henchmen, but were brainwashed by Queen Beryl
. I could live without the Minako one, but that one still irks me to this day.

Hahaha, Tuxedo la Flying Punch
When he hit Zoisite I thought "wow Mamoru is actually doing something" but when he jobbed right after I was like "that's our Mamo-chan!"

Yeah, I agree with you all the way. Hopefully we get more Mamoru/Shitennou interactions later on.

Didn't even notice Artemis.
Also, if Crystal does adapt Black Moon,
we'll get Diana much earlier than the first anime did
.

Sorry to double post, but it appears MoonieGAF's buddy Jet Wolf isn't enjoying this series too well. It seems the (lack of) characterization is hurting the series for her.

The point is there is plenty of characterization going on here, stronger characters then found in the original anime for the most part. It is since Crystal follows the manga, the sailor scouts kind of get sidelined for the romance.

Then I'd have to disagree. I know it's meant to be closer to the manga, but having read the manga, it feels that Crystal hasn't really done a good job with developing Usagi's comrades yet. For example, in the Princess D chapter, Rei is annoyed that she is dragged along. Where as in Crystal she just comes along without anything really being said, which is a lot more bland.

My sister and cousin and I, all pretty big fans of Sailormoon's first anime run and even the live action had to stop watching Crystal, which is sad.

It's just too depressingly ugly or poorly directed, and I don't think any of us really liked the characterizations shown (everyone's blander and if they can't make up the manga's failings in that area with better art, then it's not good enough).
My brother still watches during downtime because he's bored, and he skipped through a few scenes to show me what was going on with the show and.. ... why is Tuxedo Mask so rapey anyway (kissing unconscious Usagis and etc)? :l

So disappointing. I hope they resurrect the series better 10 years down the road.

I think the reason why a lot of people are disinterested is because Toei has already re-imagined the Dark Kingdom storyline with the 2003 TV Series, so Crystal kind of comes across as redundant. Although I can't really blame them starting with the first arc.

The manga/Crystal and the anime just got two different targets. If you care about Usagi and Mamoru, you will go for the former. If you care about the side characters, you will go for the latter.

Aside from Rei, Crystal does just as good, if not better, than the manga with the other characters. Crystal has its problems, but it's not the characterization. It's just hard for people to accept that this is Usagi's and Mamoru's story.

So queen Beryl got some plans of her own.

And both Usagi and Luna tries to keep secrets. Tuxedo Mask got a more hands-on approach to fighting and Sailor V comes to the rescue.

Yeah, that was neat to see she has her own motivations for once.

Usag and Mamoru are my two favorites and I prefer PGSM and the anime.

Dark Kingdom is my least favorite storyline in the comic too though.

Pretty enjoyable episode, Sailor V gets introduced much earlier, Tuxedo Masks throws a punch and does something, and there is far less comedy to muck things up.

The lack of comedy is one of my biggest gripes with Crystal so far, I feel that's what gave the original so much personality. Tuxedo Mask still jobbed in the end anyway so it's business as usual!

Yeah I agree, which is why I decided to stop watching. Such a lazy attempt from Toei.

It actually surprises me that Toei never announced who was voicing Artemis in their announcements. Given that Luna was recast, I'm sure we wont be getting Yasuhiro Takato or Kappei Yamaguchi back.

Like the show, is probably poorly made and will make you regret. lol

The art they are using is also pretty poorly done. >_>

We finally know why Sailor Moon Crystal sucks. They've been too busy making Sailor Moon themed sanitary napkins. It all makes sense now!
P.S.
Sanitary products is one thing Japan cannot do right.

They should seriously just develop that game for mobile and get some good publisher for it (weme is great with monetization and has a high reputation in Japan). Not gonna happen but a fan can wish☆

I hope some fans try to make a remake of this as a flash game, like they did with the first Anime/Manga's Sailor V bits. (Anyone have a link to that? I played it once, but would like to try it again.)

If you look at Mike's posts one or two pages back, he did link something (or maybe it was in the other thread). Anyway, if you go on YouTube or Google you can find that a few people tried to make a Sailor V game based on what they saw in SMC so far. There are some other ones too, general Sailor Moon.

I'm surprised this thread has been dead for days when a new episode is upon us (an hour from now) :O

By the way, is there any specific reason the Silver Crystal is represented as a mere diamond instead of the original "flower"
Does it look like that in the manga?

We are actually doing a watch of the Sailor V Prequel Toei made for the other TV Series to prepare for Minako's Crystal episode tonight. You're invited to join if you have Skype, just PM me.

Well, I'm not surprised. If it wasn't for you bumping this thread I would completely forgot that the new episode will be released today.

Whoever thought that releasing a new episode on a biweekly plan was a good idea was an idiot. :/

Yes, it look did look like this in the manga, it only takes its flower shape when its powers are fully used iirc.

Just one hour until Venus' proper debut, can't wait, the team will finally be complete.

I don't have Skype but thanks for the offer :)

I see.
I only watched the original anime and I don't remember if the diamond shape was a thing back then as well. I shouldn't pay too much attention anyway. This one it's supposed to be closer to the manga compared to the first anime but I thought it was weird :p

Really hoping Minako is handled well here, rewatching Sailor Moon Season 1 has shown how much of a botch job they did with her at the outset.
