Saints Row The Third |OT| Oscar Worthy Gameplay

7.7 is much lower than I was expecting from them. I don't give a shit though, because this game will be so fun. Games radar gave it a 10, and it seems to be getting 8's across the board otherwise.

from the 1up review
I played the game on all three platforms and the PC version is far and away the best. Both the 360 and PS3 are subject to pop-in and frame rate hitches, and while they're never unplayable, the glitches can interfere with the experience. The PC on the other hand runs at a steady frame rate in DirectX10 and 11 mode

Hahaha I didn't even know that was a reference. I thought it looked cool but now it's even better. GT said this game has a Ego? hahahhaa So much fan service in one game. It's awesome.

but I do not fucking care because this game is going to be awesome and GT just has their head up their own ass.

Yeah to me it seemed more like GT was trying to be way too serious and professional for their own good. "How does this compare to high art. Such abomination!"

The GT review, lol. Reviewer takes his gaming way to serious, dude didn't even find it funny yet I was laughing at the bits from the video review.

A lot of it seems forced and just over the top because they can not necessarily because they should. Like the reviewer said, feels like middle school humor. Still looks fun to me though.

ah well we knew there would be at least 1 "eurogamer" for this one.

I'd take that over ball numbingly boring gta4 gameplay anyday.

Little worried after reading the Destructoid review... He mentions that the rival gangs take a back seat in this game; I thought the gang warfare was one of the best aspects of the last two games... He also mentions that he loved the settings in the other two games, but felt Steelport was lackluster...

He also thought the driving and shooting sucked.

It's a tough thing, trying to make a funny game. I'm sure my time with Saints Row 3 will be filled with laughs and eye-rolls.

Agreed. My concern is that the over the top-ness may distract from the gameplay a bit too much. That is all they are promoting going into the game so hopefully that isn't the entire focus of the game. In 1 and 2, while they were crazy at times, there was a very competent open world game underneath.

I will see for myself and not take the word of any review.

I knew this game wouldn't get a fair shake from many reviewers but I had to agree with this

I noticed that from the first airplane sequence...the boss of saints 2 would never have apologised for throwing shaudi out the way and probably would of come out with some aggressive quip to boot.

I also don't like Shauni's new characterisation. You could of still "tarted her up" without losing the " stoner who has sex with anyone who asks persona"

Pierce seems largely the same, but Gat, like the boss, seems a bit toned down.
still, cant wait to get the game

This is actually a good thing.
I don't need a moral justification in Saint's Row, to drive me forward.
I mean you must be fucking hypocrite, to think that it's ok to kill, stomp, kick & punch everyone, just because at least the villain is worst than you.
This way is far more hilarious, you're the asshole, you're the villain.. just like that episode of Futurama, you are the invader.

I don't like Sterling's writing in general, but out of anyone he'd probably be 'fair' to the game. He had a 'why SR2 is better than GTA4' post, he loved SR2. Some of the stuff he complains about is a bit concerning. Tom Chick's going to give his opinion on SR3 today as well, he also loved SR2, so let's see how it goes.

But I totally get why they toned down the villain's psychotic nature; you had a lot of complaints that the story was just 'too unsavory' (see Edge).

But the Boss of the Saints is still a guy/girl who pulls wrestling moves on pedestrians and then poses for a camera he/she shouldn't know is there.

I'm not worried.

Sure, but in SR2 the boss decides that he's going to fuck Maero up just because he was moderately disrespectful. And then what follows is like pure revenge porn, and pretty fucked up for a game story. For what it's worth, I don't think he has to be totally crazy like he was in SR2, but I really, really hope there's no character development. 'Fuck you say' should still be integral to his/her character.

It disappointing, though expected I suppose, to see damn near every reviewer using the same canned screenshots from the game rather than taking their own. I know it's an industry-wide trend, but I haven't read reviews in quite a while so it's slipped my mind.

This bit of the IGN review is what I was afraid of after watching the quicklook:

I love the neon-lit towering skyscrapers of Steelport, but down in the streets things can seem quiet and lifeless. This is an open world but I wouldn't say it's a living world. Mayhem activities ask you to destroy as much as you can before time runs out, but you may be at a loss for stuff to blow up. As you tear around town the traffic magically appears in front of your car. Granted, I only noticed that pop-up while driving.

From the quicklook, I didn't notice the hustle and bustle of a living, breathing city. This isn't worth taking off the pre-order or anything, but it is a bit of a disappointment.

The second highlighted is also a negative for me considering the lack of action in the city but oh well, it will stratch my open world itch until GTA 5.

Some thoughts from Sterling, who was a huge fan of SR2, are also concerning.

Even worse, I fear the brevity of the campaign is a direct result of content being withheld so that the publisher can sell it digitally after the fact. THQ has made no secret that a year of DLC is in the works, and with three mission packages already in the works, it's rather galling to think that the base product spits players out so swiftly. It just seems suspicious that the game is this depthless when compared to its previous installment, yet so much more DLC is at the ready.
