I'm totally addicted to this shit at the moment, I've been watching it all freaking day.
Amazing stuff. Dark Ronald! O, and the music playlist is amazing, so much great tracks.
Apparently the Shaker Classic this Thursday will be an exhibition of the new EF-12 game.

Go watch the Donald vs Aleti fights. Hypest matches ever.

If SaltyBet needed a boxart to sell the concept, Aleti and Donald would have to be the Ryu/Ken, Sol/Ky, etc.
I've wanted to Photoshop/draw over the Megaman Zero 2 boxart for the longest time with this in mind:
The duo would replace Elpizo and Zero with Zeroko holding a can of salt where Ciel should be in the image. Hard mode would be making the soldiers in the back random bad-DBZ sprites with derpy faces or Touhous back when they were all over the place to signifiy the most prominent "horde" of characters.
Hello fellow Salt Miners!

The loading between matches takes forever now compared to last week. I timed it and it took 54 seconds.

Honestly I hope the bar is so high for EF-12 content creation that there are no more flat out awful characters. Jank/OP/unreliable is one thing, but corrupt color palettes, always full super bars, bad animations/blank frames and a lame ass OHKO as the only redeeming attack make for really boring and lame fights.

I love that supercrazy and random stuff personally. I love the absurd characters like Sue Sakamoto or Son of Sun.
Yesterday there was that fish pokemon that turned out to have a OHKO, it was hilarious. Super unfair of course, but hilarious nontheless.
He's got it on auto now, I think. TOP MEN.
...that's half of what Salty Bets IS: sheer buttfuck insanity.
While those totally broken characters are fun to watch, they're not fun to bet because the odds will always be in their favor, there may happens some upsets (Dio vs Killer Whale never forget) but it's rare.
Exactly! As long as squash matches stay rare (akuma) the fun begins. Plus it's reliable money...until it happens again.
Betting is still down? Salty plz ;_;
The whole thing is oddly skewered - accordong to the site, characters are divided into 4 tiers, with the higher win ratios gravitating toward the higher tiers, and the higher the tier, the more those characters appear.
As it stands, people who pay can buy buffs for characters at any tier, bit can only buy deletions from the lowest tier, which means you can't buy the deletion of characters with sufficiently bullshit mechanics (like boring to watch 1-hit kills), because those will naturally gravitate to high tiers.
It can be fun to watch at times (loved the Yamazaki 71113 vs Libo match, or any time 2 AIs decide to power up simultaneausly on opposite sides of the screen, but the system's ill-conceived, and considering it's being monetized it's strange Elecbyte (who made Mugen) isn't involved, although now the EF-12 guys are.
Not to mention that the people making the characters aren't seeing a cent AFAIK - let alone a mention, unless they included that in the character name.
I wonder if this'll change with the EF-12 collaboration.
Credits and permission used to be a huge deal in the Mugen world even when money wasn't changing hands, so this is pretty jarring, and wouldn't be hard to improve with a few small changes.

Agreed, several people have already talked to salty about the issue. However, some people consider that the MUGEN scene was dying quickly and Saltybet sort of revitalize the community. Naturally not many share this feeling and if some Japanese creators find out about it... ugh.
Interesting to know it I always assumed he had some kind of deal with the character creators.

This is almost funny to read, considering the community managed to thrive even through the absence of Elecbyte, who created it in the first place, and the hostile environment that existed within it - people took issue with stuff like sprites and codes being used without explicit permission even when it wasn't from their creation, and were pretty agressive about it online.
That sort eased down around 2007, when some parts of the community tried to ease on the permission debates, settling for at least some crediting, and Elecbyte themselves resurfaced with an updated and official version of Mugen for Windows - before that, it was indeed on life support, since the only legitimate versions were for DOS and Linux, with the available Windows version being a hack of a leaked version provided to some beta-testers (that was not a fun time).
On the revitalization of the community, it's not really needed if it's alive enough that one of the major Mugen forums has 3 different sections for releases alone: one for stuff made by its members, one for modification made to existing creations, and another for stuff that wasn't created by forum members, and all of them get frequent new content.
Mugen may be a niche within the already niche fighting game genre, but it's still very much alive, and already was even before Saltybets became a thing - it's just sad this new thing fails to acknowledge so many people it depends on.
I'm sure it's complicated and he's working hard, I just love that chat phrase. Hyped for the tourney tonight!
EDIT: I spoke too soon! BETTING IS BACK BABY
wtf is this. I just tuned in a second ago
Strange I didn't get paid.
