Yeah, they run every 6 hours or so with a random 16-man bracket, in a random tier, with a few exhibitions tossed in for good measure. Also inspires a few people to make LARGE STUPID bets which I keep talking myself out of betting against. :\
It's Anti-<character portrait> - you don't usually see it on Saltybets, but Mugen characters tend to use a portrait sprite for "versus" screens before a match, those just never show up in this implementation.

These have had some great match-ups, but they start so randomly.
Looks like Salty is going to update this month, however, It's hard to care about it at this point. The place is basically abandoned, the more automated salty made the site, the less he shows his face around.

Apparently what I read in the chat is that Salty got a new job or something and as a result isn't able to appear as much as he used to.
I like the current model quite well but I do hope he does something big again at some point in the future. Maybe it'll have something prepared for UFGT, since they're having SB there.

It's not him leaving it's everyone else. I was shocked when numbers dipped below 200 betters a few months back, and now it never hits that. At half a mil, I barely drop any cash and therefore rarely drop by any more.
Surprisingly enough, yeah. He used to pay attention for crashes, now because most of the system is automated, he not longer bothers to show up... but the crashes keep happening.
However, that isn't the biggest issue, the problem comes from the feeling of abandonment, the lack of the human factor, a face for the site. Someone that not only fixes problems but also "manage", or at least listens to the community.
Yeah, I heard that too, the problem is that he never let someone handle the place (or at least the roster) when he isn't around... as Cherrywarrior used to.
It's hard to say the real reason behind the viewership drop, leaving behind the obvious (people losing interest). However, I may be wrong about it but I think that the place started to bleed users when the tournaments changed format. Hand picked brackets -> hand picked themed tourneys -> automated exhibitions -> automated tournaments and exhibitions all day.
I watched every Thursday for like two months straight and once the tournament themes dried up I stopped paying attention. I also think the chat became probably a little too insular and meta recursive, making it less humorous and more of a chore to parse. Combined with the new auto-formatting it just has no real appeal to me anymore.
Honestly, my fondest memories of Saltybet were when it was running during real life tournaments and people could bet on real live streamed matches.
I wish it'd do that again, because there was no way to game that based off prior knowledge, but it does require someone to be at the helm for it.

There were a few good ones (Goemon Black Widow...wtf) and a really shitty playing FOE (with Deer Lord attacks and everything).
It's over now though, so I gave my half a mill salties away.

This site has been unusable for over a month now, I don't know what's going on. The stream is always behind, it's stuttering like crazy even when it works, the chat is always trying to reload for some reason and it's freezing up my whole computer for a minute constantly.
I don't think I changed anything on my end. Is it acting like this for anyone else? Technical issues are expected, but I can't even place a bet anymore. Or watch the fight when I manage to get one in.

I haven't had anything as bad as this but for the past couple days the main site's been lagging like crazy for me. Several missed bets, the invisible payout, sometime not even loading betting for me. The stream and chat are fine, it's just the main site that gives me issues. Pretty annoying.
Ok, guys just a heads up. There was a massive update on the regular system and I have to say some changes are outstanding, specially the new tourney format.
As I said, the new tourney format is fantastic, everyone goes to their bailouts + 1000. This makes things extremely interesting, not only miners get the chance to make good money, rich guys have fun all inning and showing if they know their match ups and of course, fantastic odds all around. For example, the last tourney some dude made more than 100k from the mines.

I can't believe I'm considering getting back into this, but it looks like Salty's put a lot of work into the site since I last checked. Back to being an illuminati for a month, see if I really fall down the rabbit hole.

This kind of thing should be done on more fighting game tournaments... or is Evo the only one? I've never been into esports much, but when there's fake money betting involved things get more exciting!

Didn't Salty get it's start offering bets on fighting game tournaments? I thought MUGEN was just a thing to fill time inbetween tourneys that took a life of its own.

Yes, SaltyBet started entirely with betting on tournaments, then introduced Mugen for the off times, then stopped doing tournaments.
This is way more interesting than the AI matches, very cool to observe EVO this way.
Edit: Wow the BlazBlue grand final was unreal! Garireo with 1:5.1 odds from losers bracket barely squeaks out a reset and grinds out a win in a second set with match points all over the place. Got me 50k salt lol awww yeee! Hype!

So got bored and started doing this again. I did this so much last year I burned out. Honestly can't really get back into this the way I used too. Still not as interesting as it used to be to me, but I do like how tourneys are basically free money now. Exhibitions I have seen for the most part are still not that great. Just Like Last year.
