Samurai Champloo

Great anime series...just not as good as Bebop...My main complaint with the series was that I just wasn't as invested in Jin, Mugen, and Fuu as I was with Spike, Faye, Jet, Ed, and Ein. Jin and Mugen just each felt like different halves of Spike.

Music for both series were well done but I liked Jazz/Noir/Space more than Samurai/Hip Hop..

Better than Cowboy Bebop but had a shittier ending. Regardless it is one of my favorite animes of all time.

True. If it wasn't for this I wouldn't have discovered Nujabes (and Fat Jon, Forces of Natures,...) and probably wouldn't have discovered Jazz-Hop. I'm guessing this is true for a lot of people.

I haven't seen many anime series, but this is probably my favorite one. I like it more than Bebop personally. The characters, animation, and music were all top notch. I think what I also liked more about SC was that even though the story had a lot of side stuff like Bebop did, I felt like the overarching storyline was more coherent and interesting.

Show peaked at the blind Goze. I don't know if it was the animation, the arc storyline or a combination of the two, but it was absolutely brilliant.

If I could tell you to watch just one arc that would be it. And maybe Mugen's backstory arc. God, that music when he's in the ocean!

Okay, and the baseball episode.

Fine, watch the entire show! It was soooo good, that I had to buy it on Blu!

hell yeah these kats are wonderful also... really nujabes got most of the credit ( which was 100% deserved) but yeah -jazz-hop and nujabes especially favorite music to date...

Love this show so much. It introduced me to Nujabes which basically completely changed my musical taste. I love this and Bebop about equally, Bebop only edges it out because it has more jazz which I enjoy more than hip-hop and it has a futuristic setting which I enjoy more than the samurai angle. Either way both are amazing. To the poster who said Michiko e Hatchin being better you are out of your goddamn mind. That anime was terrible, the ending pissed me off to no end.

Nope Cowboy Bebop is still the best. Samurai Champloo is still great in it's own right, potentially the second best anime. I just didn't like Samurai Champloo's characters, settings, and storylines as much as Bebop's which I felt were perfectly executed. I also felt that it didn't end as well, and the episodes were very hit or miss, with some being borderline awful where I considered quitting the series. (Bebop only had one truly bad episode)

Still it was a fun experience regardless, some have already posted it but the episodes about Mugen's backstory and the pirates is probably my favorite episodes in the series. (especially the way it ends)

Luved the ending episodes like they spent extra money on making the fight scenes.

I had a Japanese fansub and I luved the very last episode where they had an extra song and a whole long trailer of end credits from the fansubber I know its not part of the episode but it just wrapped up the series so well for me way back in 2004 I think it was.

Finished re-watching this show last week, still as good as I remember it. Possibly my favorite anime of all time.

There's a remix of Mystline which has a beat that really adds to it. Also the ending song is really fucking good.

One of the greatest director for sure, we lost Satoshi Kon and Watanabe isn't doing anything, it's such a shame.

Watanabe directed a 12-episode series last year, he's directing Space Dandy with BONES this summer, and he's directing another series next year.

He just recently released Kids on a the Slope. Yoko Kanno did the music for the series as well (She did the music for Cowboy Bebop). I've said this in threads past but the series was just way too short for its own good. It's good through 7 episodes and loses momentum from that point on, though still worth watching...

I'm gonna check these, even though I would like to see another big project like Bebop and Champloo.

YAWN

Ask me which Shakespeare novel is best
Mugen's last fight is so well choreographed and animated I couldn't wipe the grin off my face for the whole finale.

I started watching it again because of this thread

Just got up to the episode with the dude that wants to make it big with beat boxer guy in his entourage. Every crew needs one

had no idea this show was regarded so highly.

i dont want much anime. i went to this after bebop and was suuuuuper disappointed with everything but the music.

Samurai Champloo is easily in my top 10; I have fond memories watching this Saturday nights on adult swim back in high school. Ah, nostalgia...

Still haven't gotten around to seeing this.
How is the english dub? I could start watching it now on netflix, or hold out till a cheap copy of the dvd/bluray boxset comes around.
