Saros | Review Thread

Is this Game as hard as Returnal? Because this Kind of gameplay is hard for me , had to sell Returnal because never beated the first boss.

Saros looks great but if it is like Returnal I am out.

And I like dificcult games , got platinum of all Froms games including Sekiro...but Returnal gameplay makes me nuts.

Nah, you can make the game incredibly easy, if you choose to. The modifiers change the difficulty

Gonna play an hour or so before bed, it unlocks in 42 minutes here
You're tempting me to snag that 48 early access

I'm tempted to get the early access only because I was recently given a £20 PS voucher. 50/50 tbh. I have plenty to be getting on with, so another 2 days won't kill me will it?

So someone mentioned earlier in the thread the Ninja Turtles game Splintered Dimension. I ended up really liking this game, is that the kind of game this is vaguely? In terms of the way the game is set up and operates regarding runs and powering up and so forth? And same for Returnal?

Don't try to strong arm yourself. If it's not your vibe don't try to convince otherwise.

After a few hours, the game is easier than Returnal.

There are a LOT of upgrades you can put into your suit before even beating the first boss if you struggle, including a revive that heals you a lot.

You also get a shield.

They combined artefacts and parasites from the first game, and the positive modifiers seem to far outweigh the negative ones.

Also there's a setting in the menu where you can adjust things like fall damage and add extra protection.

The game is not a graphical benchmark but it does look good, it does looks much better than Returnal. Why couldn't Returnal look like this? would have made the game even better.
Anyway, 15 minutes in and already like this new vibe.

Played an hour before bed last night. Game looks stunning in motion and the HDR is stellar. So far im not too into this new setting and i hate the fact that we have other NPCs around us. Gameplay is super as expected altho im not sure about this shield mechanic yet

Once you get the shield into your muscle memory it's great. I felt the same, first area + adjusting to the mechanics and new dance of Saros made it feel a bit underwhelming to me.

In the third area now and everything is great + clicking.

I agree on the NPCs, they're all ugly and pointless.

Hearing that the game is much easier if you dont use modifiers is kinda of a let down...returnal was decently balanced by default.

Fuck early access

I mean, Returnal released 5 years ago. There wasn't any PS5 Pro let alone PSSR to make it look remotely close to Saros.

Man, this looks and sounds amazing, Housemarquee really knows how to make the PS5 sing. Must be a real treat for pro owners, base ps5 looks great.
Runs and controls just as buttery smooth as I remember Returnal playing.

I hardly get time for long play sessions so I skipped Returnal due it's lack of ability to save and it's difficulty. I've just bought this as I hear the runs are shorter and you can make it easier.

Really enjoying this. I like the shorter runs and more meaningful progression. It's still no cakewalk - just a little more forgiving and gives you more tools at your disposal. I also really like the level structure; it's not 'randomized connected rooms' like Returnal but rather a more linear/defined path that gets 'reconfigured' but you always end up back on a familiar path.

So far the only thing I truly dislike is the half/whole pulls on L2 - I often end up accidentally using my power when I was trying to alt-fire. Need to check if that's configurable before my next run.

Very cool game, I spent a bit with it this morning. Graphics look and move great, but the real gem is the sound design. Holy hell, it's off the charts! Equal to Hell is Us, as far as recent games go.

The plot, so far, wears its influences on its sleeve, which is fine. Shades of The King in Yellow, Stanislaw Lem, and The Gone World, straight up cosmic horror in other words. HR Giger art.

I disabled that shitty gimmick in returnal so you can probably do the same here.

Meh... I was excited for this game, but the more I see the less I like it.

I see gimmicks everywhere. By all accounts it's way too easy. Plus everything is orange, and I don't like orange.

Returnal is a more pure realization of the Housemarque gameplay concept.

After 4 hours I died for the first time in 4th biome. Now I go back to earlier biomes and level up, so I'm ready to take down the 4th boss

I just booted it up.
Just navigating the startup settings menu instantly reminded me of how fucking awesome the haptics and 3d audio can be when it's actually utilized properly.
Here we go...

Pre-ordered today. Can't wait to jump into this next week!

Agree with the discussion around price. $40 would have been more fair for what is essentially a bigger budget version of an indie game.

Also this really took five years to make? WTF has Housemarque been doing this entire time?
I remember this type of discussion around the release of Returnal, and that criticism was clearly coming from people who did not play the game. I'm sure just as for that game, it will be apparent that the quality and polish is there to warrant the price point. Returnal is probably, along with Astrobot, the definitive experience on the PS5. Incredible gameplay, and integration of dualsense features, with high degree of replayability.

It's a Finnish studio also, so what do you expect? The Finns, Swedes and Danes are probably some of most terrible people on this planet.
Wanna elaborate on this? Most global surveys of all kinds of metrics suggest the opposite

This game eats the controller battery like mfer. I turned down the triggers and haptics to medium. High is just too strong. Once the game clicks, its awesome. I do liked the isolated feel, the story and the atmoshpere of returnal better tho. Currently at the 4th biome. I wouldnt call the game much easier, it has a decent difficulty, but once again, runs can differ a lot based on what weapon you find. I just melted the 3rd biome with a weapon that charged my energy with every shots, that perk was insane. I was spamming special rockets the whole time lol

That's because Saros is the apology game for Returnal being too hard. They clearly need it to sell well, otherwise there would be no modifiers to make it beatable.
The funny thing is that returnal wasn't even that hard unless you never played a tps in your life.

Stuff like the latest dooms on max difficulty are probably like 10x times harder.

Says you. I find Returnal to be a pain in the dick and I'm quite good at third person shooters. I just hate 90% of rogue anything's (Ninja Turtles being the only exception).

The best part of Returnal for me were the haptics.

So you just hate the roguelite nature of it because you have to start over every time, but if the game had saving system like a gears, you would had way less problems.

The haptics are probably the thing i give less fucks about, i would gladly erase the dildo function an pay the game 5 euros less if it was an option :lollipop_grinning_sweat:

Playing ninja turtle these days, decent game but way too easy for a roguelike, i never beaten a first run in a roguelike after 7 runs...

It really feel like temu hades (in the good and bad way).
