Saudi Arabia sentences woman convicted of adultery to death by stoning

It's also worth discussing the rational behind the penalty. In the case of lashing/stoning adulterers, the only reason for the existence of that punishment is that it was codified in a book by some ignorant dude who lived centuries ago. And the contents of that book just happened to become something that millions of people have to accept on blind faith to not end up in eternal hell fire.

I probably can't think of a worse reason for capital punishment than this. In the case of unjust secular laws, you can at least argue against them.
Absolutely.

Well I as a Saudi am saying thanks but no thanks I don't need your help. I am not sitting in my room late at night praying for for the enlightened west to save me.

The only thing online SJW bitching about Saudi Arabia is accomplishing is shifting public opinion so that when your government decides to fuck up my country they'll have no opposition and thousands of volunteers.

What a compelling self aware argument.

Sorry, I've read this post half a dozen times and still have no idea what you are saying.

The whole basis of Christianity is a pregnant woman who swears blind that no one had slipped her a length.

If any woman tried that today we'd just wink and nod as she got put in the ambulance to the funny farm...
No, the whole basis for Christianity is a historical figure that goes under the name of, well, Christ.

BTW, a woman can get pregnant without somebody slipping her a length. Just saying.

Then you should see why it's not necessarily hypocritical. I had to put a dog down through the vet because it was sickly. If however I find out a vet was killing dogs by throwing rocks at them until they died, I would not be a hypocrite for being outraged.

I simply don't think any state should be allowed to take away lives of its citizens. And that was my momentary reaction, obviously I do see the difference between the US law and the Saudi Arabia's law and stoning for adultery is atrocious. While I would prefer for the international community to stop tolerating Arabia's backwards regime, I'm also irked when American gaffers only talk in the context of their government's policies which sometimes (not in this case) reeks of imperialism.

Well, the basis for believing Jesus was the son of the Creator of the Universe and thus should be followed and worshipped is due to his supernatural origin. Most Christians probably still believe Jesus' supernatural birth compared to say, the literal 6 day Creation myth in Genesis or any of the other nonsense in the Old Testament. I'd wager a majority also still believe in his supernatural magic tricks as well, not to mention the whole coming back to life and ascending to heaven. All of this is of course unverified and anyone claiming anything like that today would be sent to a mental institution. So his incredibility at the entire concept is more than warranted I believe...

Saudi Arabia is a medieval shithole.

Give me medieval shithole over the US any day of the week, debt and taxes aren't my kinda thing, and I can afford a vacation more than once a year, so I'm not really missing out on any fun :)

You'd rather live in a place where they stone people to death and women cannot drive in 2015? A place where women who get assaulted face the charges instead of the perpetrators? Really?

I agree with you there. And I also think that many Americans like to call out other countries for their shit but fail to do so for the shit our own government pulls.

Have a ball.

I explained this situation a couple pages back, read it before you judge.

Also, don't act like the US is innocent, your country is directly responsible for the formation of ISIS, and is directly responsible for the majority of the atrocities in the region, so drop the hypocritical "ally" act.

That literally hasn't happened in more than a decade.

women cannot drive in 2015?

Compared to the shit you guys go through? yeah.

The purpose of that statement is the spread of the religion obviously worked which your completely ignoring. You've simply jumped off the deep end in regards to things that have nothing to do with original discussion.

I think my country has problems with race, inequality, gun control, policing and healthcare. And it encourages debate on those problems. Yours stones people to death for adultery. Treats women as second class citizens. Foments and funds terrorism in other countries * And you won't even talk about it.

* see? We even have something in common.

That's been a part of the doctrine for a long time. Does not necessarily hold true (just like a good deal of the rest of that doctrine). But since technically, conceiving without a sex act is possible (just not very likely), Jesus' mother could have been a virgin. Weather that's 'divine' or not is left to the interpretation of the doctrine.

And yet, Christianity, as such, was not born out of the fact a child was born to a virgin mother. There was a long series of other events (including a teaching that was somewhat progressive for its time), to the best of our current knowledge, that brought about Christianity as a religion.

Just because you didn't bother to read it doesn't mean I didn't talk about it.

I don't know you but pretty sure I don't like you.

So what do Muslims think about this? Often the debate is about whether people support ISIS and known terrorists, but what about the way countries use this religion? Is this judges ruling something that is supported? Or do people that practice Islam condemn this side of it....the side often showed and portrayed to be followed by almost every Muslim country

I didn't act like anything. Pretend where you live is better because you get more vacations or whatever the fuck cute little thing you wanna say. I know, whether it's carried out or not, there isn't the threat of death for cheating over here from our government because some dickhead wrote it down in a book ages ago. So yeah, I'm good here.

But taxes! I would give up my rights to drink, gamble, drive, and sleep around with who I want if only I didn't have to pay taxes. Would you not?

But you don't get to tell me to "Have a ball" just because I actually like my stress free life. It's not for everybody but me and my family are content with it, and I couldn't be happier.

Haha you'd kill for half the benefits we get just for being citizens. I never ever said we are flawless (my country is VERY flawed), but honest to pasta I would never wish to be a young American in this day (maybe in the 70's but not now).

If Canada had the stoning penalty for anything, I would pack up get out of here. All it takes is one law like that on the books to shit up an entire country. Free healthcare is awesome and the culture is great but I could not live in a country run by people so barbaric that they would consider stoning a just punishment for anything, much less something as benign as adultery.

Here's an idea.

In the year 2015, how about we don't throw stones at people until they are dead? I know this idea may be a bit radical, but I truly think society will improve if we do not follow this course of action.

Not to belittle your point, but there's more gun murder than stone murder.

Even if we abolish stoning, our countries are still gung-ho for sending young men and women to shoot the hell out of each other, as if war is somehow okay.. At least the idea behind stoning is that the person to be stoned is a criminal (though what is considered a crime punishable by death in this instance is ridiculous).

Wether execution actually happen or not is beyond this point. It's ridiculous. The THREAT OF STONING SHOULD NOT EVEN EXIST. Especially for adultery. Also why even go to the most extreme of extremes: the beheading of the two sri lankan ladies this year for having a child dying under their care and then having only some sort of kangaroo court. The execution of people for SORCERY back in 2011 and 2012. We can also put in the executions or lashings for "apostasy".

A country which has delt more than 150 executions this year. Yeah sorry i'll take my terrifying tax-filled european country.

I'd take taxes and a huge debt than to live in an oppressive regime. I haven't took a vacation in Saudi Arabia since 1997. And I don't think it's that big of a deal anyway. My freedom of mind is what's important.

Ivf a thing then was it? Christ was only defined as Christ due to the "miracle" of fatherless birth.

Apparently.

Show me a single video from Saudi Arabia.

And this is the place where you step up and reveal you're a Saudi woman.. You are, right?

I have four sisters and I'm the only boy. Women right now have a long long long way to go in Saudi Arabia when it comes to women's rights (I've helped my sister drive last year in the october driving protest) so don't judge me when you don't know me, they all have/had boyfriends, I don't know about their private matters and I don't care because it's up to them. My sister got her PhD in Canada, and she dated and married a boy there, the government sponsored all of our education, and we were all basically guaranteed comfortable jobs upon graduation. we live in a big house, own four cars, and I've had my own car since I was 17, I get paid to study, and I don't worry about my future jobs or debts, In the end I don't think we would have half the things we now have if we weren't Saudi. So whatever, I'm happy to be Saudi.

Life is well for a Saudi citizen but garbage for most others that come in the country. The abuse of workers is quite tragic.

However, I'm not hating on the life of Saudis - I think it's pretty cool. And not having to pay taxes is awesome. I too would gladly sacrifice some 'freedoms' if it meant not having to pay for tax.

No seriously it stakes an absurd lack of knowledge about human history to even make such statement.

Uhm, ok. Feel free to point out the wars that have killed billions for the past two thousand years that didn't have religious motivation.

We appear to be living on different planets.

You really are crazy, point out the reasons, for the last two world wars and most genocides. (Hint, most of that stuff is based on race wealth and power)

Who are you kidding? Most of the violence in the world is over money or simply because (some) humans are aggressive beasts. Even the current conflict in Syria would probably have been settled long time ago if outside countries (Saudi Arabia, Russia, USA etc.) didn't support various factions, each with their own agenda far removed from religion.

Yes it does! From Saudi people and society. We are rapidly changing and evolving. We need to fix these problems ourselves. You or any foreigner has no right to intervene. You do not have the power to fix this and no one is asking you to fix it.

Get it now? You can judge and think of us a sub-humans all you want. Go crazy. I know you get your self worth from feeling superior. But do not get involved. Make your country a better place.
This is fucking scary when you consider it's a response to protesting the stoning of a woman for adultery.
