SbF: Super Best Friends Play Thread: ReBoot

Forgot to mention it, but man I feel like the recent UD part is throwing a lot of red herrings at you. If they're not red herrings then wow, this shit is obvious and not obvious and this game is weird.

We hit 18 threads so quickly in about a year because of a lot of off topic talk and nonsense that could be seen as barely pertaining to the Best Friends. There was also some shit with pretty risque avatars and mods shut that shit down. So now it's a lot of on topics talk and no but x is best girl though.

Lmao glad I missed that then. Didn't know how crazy the waifu wars could get haha. Thanks for the reply:)

Nah, you're correct. Zubaz was a rejected Street Fighter character. Woolie and Matt explained it in that thing that nobody watched. IIRC, the show was called Farmer Media or something like that.

Nah, farmer media is by Plague. Zubaz was also rejected from that because there was no fence for him to electrify yet.

I'm glad that they finally got to the twist.
2 more twists to go.

I can't wait for them to
meet flamethrower guy. He's like the BIGGEST cliche and it's hilarious "YER KIDS DON'T KNOW WHAT'S HIDING IN THE MOUNTAIN". He's like every old cook ever who warns about whatever mythical creature is hiding away in any scoobydoo episode. And the guy who plays him exagerates that so much. It's great

Hmm I think I know where UD is going now.

Speculationing:
Josh was just scaring them to teach them a lesson, the only thing that doesn't fit is that if Chris picked Ashley in the first choice between her and Josh would she have been dead? Mike is going to get pissed off and ask him what he did to Jessica, Josh says he didn't do shit to her.

Also there's the nature shit that's still unclear.

I hope Emily comes out of those mines like Lara Croft, suddenly badass.

Emily's part they're going to do is fucking BRUTAL (harsh)

My current prediction is that they'll save everyone
but Josh.
If they pull that off they'll still do better than I did by one.
I lost both Josh and Ashley because I drastically underestimated the intelligence of the antagonist.

Until Dawn maintains being super nuts. I was honestly kind of mad at Matt for going against Pat on that certain choice considering the guidance totem even.

It's cute how they they thought that was some exclusive shit they had. Also Liam never wanting to switch from 12 fultons to 24 via the loadout will never not irk me.

They mentioned running over DD, did I miss an episode somewhere?

The episode where they pick up DD has them running over DD in the sandstorm a few minutes prior to picking him up.

Liam fultoning DD during a sandstorm with a 40% after running him over with a car and DD actually surviving is pretty symbolic of how this whole LP has gone so far.

I think the biggest weird thing from Phantom Pain thus far that Liam or Pat didn't even acknowledge was that Metal Gear has no problems featuring licensed music that is incredibly anachronistic to the time period.

Also
watching supply drops land on Quiet's head twice to defeat her was immensely entertaining.

TPP Ep.

Liam stops right before Quiet and proceeds to beat her immediately with supply drops claiming that they think this'll be exclusive.

Yeah, sure buddy. When you learn stuff off of /v/ next time, at least try to play it off better.

Stuff like that really irritates me. One of the reasons I can never watch the MGR LP again.

Eh, I'm willing to believe Liam discovered it on his own. At this point, people know Metal Gear games are full of goofy little touches like this. Most people experiment with them far more extensively looking for Easter Eggs than they do other games.

Rather, I'd give him few brownie points for discovering it, as it's not like it's anything wildly unexpected. As soon as you realize the game applies physics to given objects, the next natural question is whether or not it models the physics of interactions with those objects in accurate (or at least interesting) ways.

(Though, given his background as a game tester he's probably been conditioned to ignore instances of physics not being applied in rational ways. I imagine he's submitted a few thousand tickets that read, "[X] does not apply a change in velocity when interacting with [Y]" where X and Y are things most players probably didn't particularly think to slam into each other.)

Just realizing that MGR was faked just sucks so much. I wouldn't have minded if they were up front about it. I mean why pretend its a blind lp?

Probably a mixture of riding the hype train of MGR at the time and the LP would be a hard sell if people thought they already knew everything.

bad gameplay lol

Yeah, the MGR LP had my favorite 2BFP moment ever (Matt: "What?" Pat: "What?" Raiden: "WHAT?"), but knowing it was planned and not spontaneous ruins it completely. =/

Ugh, even just thinking about it leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

Which is weird because they spoke about it on the last podcast quite candidly.

I'm heavily leaning towards it being a genuine reaction. Liam is being very careful about not trying to spoil anything for himself as far as story and content goes. I don't think he of all people would try to fake that kind of thing.

I think it was silly to assume that was "exclusive," but I think it's also silly to assume Liam is immediately lying.

Yeah, he mentions that he saw the interaction earlier in a throw-away mission, and for a Kojima game it's actually somewhat logical to assume that it would work even in the more extreme circumstances. That's one of the hallmarks of Kojima's design: he doesn't tend to believe in creating exception cases to the "rules" of the game for the sake of preserving his encounter design.

For example, my second playthrough of the original MGS basically involved beating most of the bosses (and with often-laughable ease) with the Nikita rather than the intended methods. I don't think this is something Kojima overlooked when he was designing those encounters. I think he errs in favor of letting the player do cute/clever things, even if it means his carefully-designed boss encounter becomes slapstick as a result.

it's more like hyping it up as this "exclusive thing that's never done before" even before the episode came out

pat came on ffxiv and said he was really excited about the stuff they just recorded, we asked how far and he said "we wouldn't believe how he defeated her" and one of the officers said "did liam drop supply boxes on her head" and he acted all aghast

the actual fight against her is so much better, sucks there's such an easy way to cheese it. having her lose line of sight on you and then having to find her humming as she repositions around the arena trying to find you by using the directional microphone in the binoculars is so much cooler

Yeah, they (Matt?) sort of shrugged it off on the podcast which really rubbed me the wrong way. Bad enough that they faked that LP, but I thought it'd be more of a one time thing. Based on how they talk about it though, I guess they're actually cool with doing stuff like that.

Meh, faked is pretty loaded, it just happens they have to redo stuff occasionally (usually because of technical reasons) and they just don't specifically call it out.

I get why they don't, it's similar to how they keep up 'kayfabe' in how much the videos lag behind reality. Most of the people commenting on videos don't seem to realize that either.

I think he's fine with redoing things when shit's fucked and that's the best option. I think he realizes that they should of expressed more self restraint at least with MGR and not played ahead. I took that joke as mocking themselves, but maybe I wasn't paying enough attention to what they were saying.

It wasn't a redo though. It was just that they both played ahead separately after the first session and then resumed with the second session. Acting as if they didn't know what was ahead was pretty silly.

I'm also not really sure how they keep up kayfabe with video lag at all. They speak pretty openly about it on the podcast with saying blah for this week. Or talking about how they'll fix a mistake on the next session and say which part that kicks around at.

So, I finally got around to reading Berserk since the Zaibuttsu say Griffith is more evil than Dio, and I of course didn't believe them.

Berserk spoilers for up to chapter ~100
Wow Griffith is evil. Like, I can let it slide that he sacrificed all the jobber Hawk members, but he was even willing to sacrifice Guts and Casca too. That full page panel of child him climbing on the mountain of bodys to reach the castle really nailed the whole scene. It's also incredible the author made him such a heel, he was probably more important than Guts, then he becomes the main villain. And the first thing he does after becoming a God Hand is to rape Casca to mess up her and Griffiths child? Wow.

And Guts is a huge badass. Liek, super huge. He kills tons of demons with like a giant screw and hacks off his own arm to try and save Casca. His dick is probably bigger than Dragon Slayer.
Also Judeau x Casca OTP. May his soul ride eternal with Hot Dog Man in Valhalla

Wait, what? Did they play through the game before the LP?

Welcome to Berserk

It only gets more fucked from here and the ride never ends.

Also yes.

The first session they played (part 1 - 5) was on the first day of release and was considered a blind LP. After the first session, they both went home and beat the game on their own, but when they continued the LP (from part 6 - Final), they pretended it was still a blind LP and that they were seeing things for the first time.

I would have preferred if only one of them had beat the game - so at least one person was genuinely seeing things for the first time - or just be upfront about it from part 6 onward that "we've already beat the game". How they handled it wasn't great.
